Chapter 17: Say Something, Nina

That morning, there was a brand-new refrigerator in Nina’s room.

It came stocked with two boxes of premium mineral water and drinks.

Nina had to admit that she was very happy with Boris’ attitude because it matched her assumptions of her family.

She decided that the second person she would try to approve of, besides Molly, would be Boris.

After the whole family had been seated during lunch, Mary came up behind Nina. “I’m sorry, Miss Jowett. I apologize for my behavior this morning. You know, I just followed Mr. Boris’ instructions and took the rules too seriously.”

Boris had already performed Mary’s job.

Boris had explained that consenting to put a refrigerator in Nina’s room was to get her approval and acceptance of the family faster. He didn’t want Nina to feel uneasy after arriving, and he wanted Mary to help him.

It was only then that Mary agreed to reconcile with the unruly Miss Jowett for the time being.

Of course, this did not mean that she really approved of the other party.

Nina stirred the salad in her bowl with her fork. She did not look at Mary and only nodded at her words.

Molly smiled and said, “Honey, Mary is apologizing to you. Can you say something too?”

Say something?

Must she say something?

When Nina had first arrived, she had not intended to say anything. At least, she would try to limit speaking as much as possible.

Since this was her mother’s wish…

Nina stopped stirring her salad. “Oh? I thought all the helpers here were free, undisciplined, prejudiced, and arrogant. Since you can recognize your own mistakes, I can spare you the punishment, but you must put away your prejudices and arrogance. Do you understand?”

The room froze.

Mary had a strange expression on her face. She looked at Boris incredulously, and her eyes said, “Did you see that? Did you see the arrogance and egotism of this Miss Jowett?”

Cathy’s jaw dropped too. She hadn’t expected Nina to respond in such a manner.

What kind of response was this?

Stew dripped out of the corner of Billy’s mouth. He was so shocked that it was as if he had suddenly lost his ability to take care of himself.

Molly grimaced. She had asked Nina to say something because she hoped Nina would apologize too and make up with Mary.

This was the most basic form of interpersonal relationships.

However, she did not expect this “something” that Nina said would make her feel so powerless in this situation.

Claude, on the other hand, burst out laughing after a moment of stunned silence. He studied Nina with wonder, laughing so hard that he doubled over. “Oh my God, did my sister originally live in the royal family?”

Molly covered her face too.

Nina looked at everyone in confusion. She thought she had made her stand very clear in her response.

She had also made it clear that she had forgiven Mary for her mistake.

It was basically a textbook-correct response.

Boris glared at Claude. “Oh, come on, Claude. Nina’s just a child. And there are rules in some places that… Ahem, maybe it’s just really different from what we have here.”

Claude laughed and asked, “You mean those ancient and backward dynasties?”

Nina understood what the problem was through their conversation, but it didn’t matter.

She began to eat.

Billy leaned closer to Cathy. “Have you ever come in contact with any other people from the countryside? Are they all so weird?”

Cathy shrugged.

Boris tried to smooth things over. “Mary, why don’t you get back to your work? The child might just not be good at expressing herself.”

Mary nodded helplessly and left the dining room.

Not good at expressing herself? Right. This lawless, arrogant, and egotistical Miss Jowett seems to live in dreamland, thinking that she really is a princess or queen after arriving at the Milton residence.
