“Why are you suddenly going to Shanghai?” the woman blurted out.

After asking, she remembered that their relationship had changed, and such a question made her seem as if she still cared about him.

She awkwardly explained, “I was just casually asking.”

“Mm, nothing much,” Lu Yuwen’s tone remained gentle and calm. “Those things, if you need them urgently, you can come over to get them yourself. You still have the keys, right?”

“No, I’ll wait until you’re free, and then I’ll drop by…”

“Alright.”

Lu Yuwen set down his phone and looked down at his feet again. His toes stretched, then he lightly stood on tiptoes before letting his heels fall back down…

The steady, firm sensation delighted his entire body and mind.

He stood there and smiled briefly before beginning to wash up and change.

The dark wooden wardrobe slid open, with clothes neatly categorized and arranged. Hanging to the side were a few women’s garments, which stood out awkwardly among the rest.

These belonged to Fang Zixin–the woman who had just called.

Lu Yuwen and Fang Zixin had been in a relationship for over half a year, and there had been a chance they might discuss marriage, but last month, they broke up.

Perhaps fearing he would cling on, or maybe just to avoid awkwardness, Fang Zixin abruptly left the country after their breakup. Her social media was filled with photos, claiming it was a vacation to clear her mind.

But such actions were entirely unnecessary.

Because Lu Yuwen respected her decision. The choice to part ways wasn’t made impulsively, and they had separated amicably. Everything that needed to be said had been said–there was no need to salvage anything further.

As memories flashed briefly in his mind, they quickly gave way to thoughts about the trip to Shanghai.

If a lame foot could miraculously heal for no apparent reason, then his mind urging him to go to Shanghai must hold some kind of meaning.

Shanghai, Xuhui District, Woast Road.

Lu Yuwen silently went over this information in his head before lifting his wrist to check the time.

It was now 9:00 AM. Taking the high-speed train from Nanjing to Shanghai would only take two hours, and even with potential traffic delays, there was plenty of time.

His excitement slowly rose, filling him with curiosity about what might happen next.

What would unfold once he arrived there?

Lu Yuwen quickly got dressed, but just as he was about to leave, he encountered a minor hiccup–

He didn’t have any shoes to wear.

To be precise, he didn’t have any suitable shoes. Due to his previously lame foot, his shoes had to be custom-made to compensate for his physical imbalance. The heels, as well as the height and slope of both shoes, were not the same.

Now that his foot was healed, those old shoes no longer fit.

He couldn’t help but smile. Even such a small annoyance brought with it a peculiar kind of joy.

Closing the shoe cabinet, he called his driver and asked him to buy a pair of leather shoes and deliver them to his home.

The driver asked, “Boss, what size should I buy?”

Lu Yuwen realized he couldn’t let the driver know about his foot’s sudden recovery.

The restaurant staff rarely saw him, so he could claim to have undergone surgery, but the driver, whom he interacted with daily, would be harder to convince. There was no way to explain how his foot had suddenly gotten better.

“My friend’s feet are about the same size as mine,” Lu Yuwen replied carefully. “Just buy my usual size. Once you’ve got them, leave them at my door, and I’ll have him come pick them up.”

“Alright, boss.”

Another hour passed.

One hour later, the driver placed the shoes at his door and quickly left, calling Lu Yuwen to inform him.

Lu Yuwen thanked him, though he felt a twinge of guilt. The driver hadn’t done anything wrong, yet due to personal reasons, he would eventually have to let him go.

After all, the matter with his foot was simply too difficult to explain. When the time came to discuss termination, he would at least provide extra compensation and severance pay.

With this thought, he slipped on the new shoes and stepped out the door.
