Chapter 10: The Gentle Chief Gu

Jian Jiayue felt that she was slapped hard on the face when she was being called “uneducated”. That was the last word she wanted to hear from anyone else.
“Am I wrong, Jian Sangyu? Everything you have right now should be mine! I am the daughter of the Jian Family! If it had not been you, it would have been me who grew up with parents and who was loved by grandparents! The shares from father and grandparents should all be mine! Let me tell you something, you must learn to be satisfied! You should be satisfied that you received so much dowry when you got married! You must return everything you do not deserve!”
Jian Jiayue talked back in a bellowing tone. She had a look of detest on her face.
The merrier Jian Sangyu was, the more bitter and jealous she became.
Everyone would compare her to Jian Sangyu and everyone would speak highly of Jian Sangyu with as many lovely words as they could think of whilst thinking of her as someone who “was a pity”.
What a pity that she did not grow up in the Jian Family so that she missed the perfect opportunity of receiving perfect education, so that she became an ugly duckling no one liked!
The sound of knocking startled the three women.
“Who is it?” Jian Jiayue asked anxiously. She was afraid that it was Father Jian, or her grandparents from the countryside who just popped by.
“Gu Chen.” The man outside answered.
Both Jian Jiayue and Mother Jian were startled. They had not expected that it was the man who made them even more scared than Father Jian and the grandparents did.
“Open the door.” Gu Chen urged impatiently, “Jian Sangyu, open the door now.”
Jian Sangyu who had been addressed stood up and opened the door. “You are coming for me?”
Gu Chen sized up Jian Sangyu as he stood outside the door. Then he stretched out his hand to hold Jian Sangyu’s hand that was holding the door handle. “Go and eat something, you will get a stomach ache if you don’t eat anything at night.”
“Ah?” Jian Sangyu’s eyes fell upon Gu Chen’s hand on hers and felt baffled. So he came upstairs to ask her to go downstairs for food?
Since when did Chief Gu become so caring and gentle?
Gu Chen pulled her out of the room, released Jian Sangyu and walked into the room as he stood in front of Mother Jian and Jian Jiayue, throwing a glance at the signed contract.
“Mom, Sangyu and I are married. She is my wife.” Gu Chen suddenly said.
This was a statement that baffled both Mother Jian and Jian Jiayue. Mother Jian nodded. “Yes, I know that.”
“We did not have our pre-marriage properties notarized, so whatever possessions she has belongs to us both. If I don’t sign this paper, it will never come into effect.”
Having said those words, Gu Chen left the room and walked downstairs with his hand on Jian Sangyu’s waist.
After they came downstairs, Gu Chen did not bring Jian Sangyu for any food. Instead, they went to Father Jian and said that they needed to leave because of an emergency.
It was early evening when they came to this villa. But on the way home, it was already totally dark.
As Gu Chen was driving, he threw occasional looks at Jian Sangyu’s expression and stature and spoke suddenly, “Anything you have right now is yours only. If you don’t want to share them, you don’t have to. You are my wife, and you don’t have to live a demeaned and incapable life.”
Only now did Jian Sangyu understand what was going on. Gu Chen must have listened for a while before knocking on the door just now. He knocked on the door to bring her away from the Jian Family.
