Chapter 26: Picking The Lock

Irene had been worried about the whereabouts of the letter, but Ronald had been guarding her, so she could not find a chance to slip away.
Just as she was about to go to the bathroom, Irene heard the sound of the door opening. She immediately opened the bathroom door and tried to follow him out, but then she saw that Ronald was about to close the door. She thought to herself, ‘This is not good.’
She quickened her steps and ran to the door, but she was still a step too late. The door had already been closed by Ronald.

Irene began to search the room for something she could use. Finally, her hand touched the hairband on the dressing table.
She remembered that some hairbands would be styled with wire. She touched them one by one. In the end she really found a hairband with wire inside.
She immediately picked up the scissors on the table, cut them open, and pulled out the iron wire from inside.
Irene walked to the door and put her ears close to the door. When she heard no movement outside the room, she squatted down and made her eyes parallel to the lock hole.
It was the first time Irene had done such a thing, and she didn’t know if it would be successful. She slowly inserted the iron wires into the lock hole and carefully tested the structure inside.
Irene nervously held her breath and focused. Her breathing slowed down a little. She felt that she had touched the lock. She was delighted, but at the same time, she steadied her movements and pushed the lock up.
There was a light clicking sound of the lock being unlocked. Irene quickly pressed her ear against the door, but there was still no movement outside.
She let out a long breath and then opened the door with relief.
When the door was opened, she saw a pair of leather shoes. Irene felt a chill running down her spine.
No way, Ronald didn’t actually leave at all. He was just outside listening to the movements and letting her do whatever she wanted so that he could catch her red-handed.
But that wasn’t right. He didn’t have Ronald’s intimidating aura at all.
Irene slowly looked up from the pair of legs and finally saw Wen Shaoqing’s smiling face!
Wen Shaoqing didn’t say anything. He just smiled and watched Irene huddle up and crouch in front of him.
Irene stood up and looked at Wen Shaoqing. She did not know where the letter was, so Irene did not dare to act rashly. “Wen… wen…”
“Young Master Wen,” Wen Shaoqing added. “It seems that Mrs. Ronald doesn’t speak Mandarin.”
Irene was embarrassed. So what if she did not speak Mandarin? She wasn’t Chinese.
Irene looked left and right, but no one passed by. She flipped her palm and reached out in front of Wen Shaoqing. “Please, Wen…”
