Chapter 19: A Snake

“Master Yuyan, what kind of person Master Yuzhi is?”
Yu Shuya propped her chin on her hands and asked.
“Aren’t you afraid of Yuzhi, young mistress?”
Yuyan asked Yu Shuya out of curiosity. In the nunnery, some feared Yuzhi, while others hated her.
She had certainly not expected a ten-year-old child to neither fear nor disgusted with Yuzhi. She was full of curiosity about Yuzhi instead.
“Not at all.”
Yu Shuya shook her head and shyly glanced at Master Yuyan.
“I bumped into Master Yuzhi the other day. She was the first person who did not hit me or yell at me. Master Yuzhi is a good person.”
When Master Yuyan immediately slowed down her motion of chopping the vegetables when she heard the reply from Yu Shuya.
She bent down and looked at Yu Shuya with a smile.
“You’re right. Yuzhi is weird, but she’s a good person.”
Yu Shuya found Master Yuyan’s comment amusing. Why would she want to kill her if she was a good person like Master Yuyan said?
However, she nodded in agreement and asked in a relaxed tone, “Then can I still see Master Yuzhi today?”
Yu Niang immediately stood up at Yu Shuya’s question.
“Young Mistress, all the nuns here have their task to complete. You don’t get to see them as you please.”
Yu Shuya sadly lowered her head when she heard Yu Niang’s remark.
She was indeed upset and anxious. Now that breakfast was almost ready, and Madam Yuyan was about to leave, she still had not gotten any useful information about Master Yuzhi.
Damn it! What if Master Yuzhi knew she was not dead yet and wanted to kill her tonight?
Yu Shuya couldn’t help sighing the entire morning. Yu Niang’s heart sank when she saw the child looking upset.
She put down the hoe in her hand and slowly walked to Yu Shuya’s side.
“Young Mistress, is there anything troubling you?”
Yu Shuya shook her head. She did not know how to tell Yu Niang about her worries. Tears welled up in her eyes as she threw herself into Yu Niang’s embrace.
“Young mistress, why don’t you go play? I won’t stop you anymore.”
Since she couldn’t coax her young mistress to tell her trouble, she could only agree to her request to pick some flowers at the back of the mountain.
Although Yu Shuya knew that she should not let Yu Niang worry about her anymore, she had no choice but to enter the mountain.
“Yu Niang, I’ll get going then.”
Yu Shuya’s eyes lit up, pretending that she got what she always wanted. After thanking Yu Niang, she ran towards the forest.
With a wooden stick in her hand, Yu Shuya entered the forest and followed the trail she had taken yesterday.
She felt that she was too reckless when she entered the forest the day before after returning from the forest. The forest was full of wild beasts, and she entered without any preparation.
Staring at the wooden stick in her hand, she could not help sighing again.
What preparation could she have? She was so poor that she could not even afford bow and arrows.
Just as she wondered about the young man in white and his reason for being in the forest, she felt something moved behind her.
She heard rustling, like the sound of a small animal crawling.
But Yu Shuya knew. If the animals were smaller, they would have run away at the sight of a human. They would not keep moving around her.
Yu Shuya nervously gulped down her saliva and took a step forward, preparing to escape.
Although the forest was overgrown with weeds and bushes, she could only run as fast as she could to save her life.
She could hear the rustling sound getting nearer to her, as if it was right by her side, around her feet.
Around her feet?
Just as Yu Shuya was about to speed up, she felt something cold and slippery wrapped around her feet.
Holding back her disgust and fear, she lowered her sight. It was a snake.
Although the snake looked extremely strange and was a species that she had never seen before, she knew that majority of the snakes in the world were poisonous.
