Chapter 24: Results

When it was time to eat, everyone went to the table, including Chen Mo, who had been staying upstairs the whole time.

At the dining table, everyone did not move but looked at Old Master Chen.

Old Master Chen valued the rules very much. If there were elders at the banquet, the younger generation could not move their chopsticks until the elders did.

Old Master Chen glanced at Mu Qiannian and nodded in satisfaction.

Then, he picked up his chopsticks and the Chen family’s younger generation also started to use their chopsticks.

They did not say anything during the meal until the dessert segment.

Everyone was still sitting around the dining table. Old Master Chen asked first, “I heard that you left the Mu family?”

Mu Qiannian nodded.. “I’ve been living alone for a few days.”

Old Master Chen did not speak again and the atmosphere became quiet again.

Chen Mo took the initiative to speak to her. “Then where are you living now?”

“I’ve rented a room in Travis. I’ll look for an apartment after a while.”

Chen Mo’s eyes revealed an envious expression. She had always wanted to be independent.

She also wanted to move out alone, but her parents and grandfather did not allow it.

Seeing the disappointment in Chen Mo’s eyes, Mu Qiannian smiled and said, “If you’re free, you can come and play with me.”

After a pause, she added, “After we move.”

Chen Mo nodded happily.

Old Master Chen seemed to have rested well. He stood up and said, “Your three, father and sons, come with me. I have something to tell you.”

Pei Mingchen’s gaze fell on Mu Qiannian, who was beside him. He had wanted to reject Old Master Chen.

However, Mu Qiannian gave him a reassuring look, so Pei Mingchen did not say anything else.

Hence, he looked at Chen Mo and gestured for her to take care of Mu Qiannian a little more.

Then, Pei Mingchen followed Old Master Chen upstairs.

Bai Jin waited for Old Master Chen to leave before her gaze fell on Mu Qiannian.

“Can we go out and have a chat?”

Mu Qiannian instantly felt that Bai Jin had become much colder.

However, she was not surprised. Bai Jin had always been like this, even when she was engaged to Chen Jia. It seemed to be even worse then.

The two of them stood in the back garden, which was full of lush grass.

“I hope you can leave Pei Mingchen.”

Bai Jin raised her chin and her gaze was fixed on the scenery of the Chen family’s backyard.

This sentence caused a moment of silence as if it was blown away by the wind.

Bai Jin turned around in confusion and saw Mu Qiannian, who was also looking at the scenery with a smile on her face.

She frowned. “Did you hear that?”

Mu Qiannian’s expression was indifferent. “I wonder if this is Aunt Jin’s idea, or Grandpa Chen’s or Uncle Desheng’s?”

Bai Jin turned around. “No one’s idea. I’m thinking for the sake of Mingchen. The Mu family can’t help him much. He needs a wife who can help him, not an adopted daughter who has no power or influence in the Mu family.”

Mu Qiannian sneered when she heard that, which made Bai Jin frown.

“I won’t comment on how you treat Pei Mingchen, but you might be disappointed if you say that I can’t help him much.”

Mu Qiannian paused for a moment as if she had thought of something. The corners of her lips curled up into a smile. “Indeed, there’s nothing much to say about the Mu family. It’s just that with a little money, they can barely make it into the upper class. However, what if it’s the Su Family? What if my relationship with the Su family isn’t shallow?”

Looking at Bai Jin’s astonished gaze, Mu Qiannian felt that her anger had subsided.

“Auntie, since you’ve already acted up to this point, why don’t you continue acting? Don’t destroy the peace on the surface of the Chen family.”

After Mu Qiannian finished speaking, she gave a polite smile and turned around to leave.

When they returned to the living room, Chen Mo was still waiting there. Her worried gaze had been fixed on the door that they had left through.

When she saw that Mu Qiannian had returned, Chen Mo heaved a sigh of relief.

Mu Qiannian found it funny. This Chen Mo really listened to Pei Mingchen’s words.

She brought the gift box that had not been distributed to Chen Mo.

“You weren’t around just now. This is my gift to you. You can open it and take a look.”

Chen Mo was pleasantly surprised. She placed the rather large gift box on the coffee table and could not wait to carefully open the gift box again.

What entered her eyes was a set of limited-edition pink and silver earphones. Moreover, there was the author’s exclusive signature on it.

It was said that there were only ten sets that had signatures. Chen Mo could not even snatch those without signatures. She did not expect to receive one with an autograph.

Before she could say thank you, Pei Mingchen came downstairs with a dark expression.

When he came to Mu Qiannian, his expression returned to normal. He took the initiative to hold her hand and said while suppressing his emotions.

“Let’s go.”

Mu Qiannian looked at the second floor hesitantly. “I haven’t told grandfather…”

“No need. I’ve already said it.”

Mu Qiannian could sense that he was in a bad mood. She did not say anything more. She stood up and nodded at Chen Mo before leaving with Pei Mingchen.

After returning to the hotel, Pei Mingchen was much quieter than before. It was not until the next day.

Pei Mingchen returned to normal the next day and accompanied Mu Qiannian to the hospital to retrieve the report.

When she received the DNA results, the results on the report made her frown.

Mu Qiannian only felt that it was unlikely, but the words ‘not related by blood’ written on the report were so real.

“Impossible, how could this be?”

Mu Qiannian still could not accept such a result. She took the report and went to find a doctor in the blood testing department.

“Excuse me, is the result in this report accurate? Could there be a mistake?”

The doctor on duty carefully checked the report and nodded with certainty. “Everything registered in the report is verified. There are no problems.”

Mu Qiannian’s heart turned cold when she heard this.

Pei Mingchen put his arm around her shoulder, feeling sorry for her. He did not say anything and gave her time to recover.

On the other side, Pei He also knew about the DNA results this time. He felt that something was wrong.

Then, he received a call from Mu Wanwan.

“How is it? has the DNA results for Mu Qiannian and my mom come out?”

Pei He frowned. “They’re not related by blood.”

There was silence on the other side, followed by Mu Wanwan’s relieved voice.

“It’s good that they’re not related.” After a pause, Mu Wanwan continued, “That means that I’m the real daughter of the Su family.”

Pei He did not reply, but Mu Wanwan hung up the phone first.

She was still at the Mu residence. After confirming the DNA results, she quickly hung up the call with Pei He and immediately dialed another number.

“Doctor Li?”

“Yes, Miss Mu.”

Mu Wanwan smiled and said, “You did well this time. Send an account number to my phone.”

The other side was silent for a moment and said hesitantly, “Miss Mu, I’m sorry to say this, but it’s not good to do this. If someone finds out, not only you but I will also be implicated.”

Mu Wanwan was like a firecracker when she heard that. “I’ll pay and you do the work. You’ve already done the work, yet you still talk so much nonsense. Are you saying that you don’t want money?”

Then, an apology was quickly heard. “I’m sorry, I spoke too much.”

Mu Wanwan laughed in satisfaction. “That’s right. Send me your account number. Remember to keep your mouth shut after you receive the money. I don’t want anyone else to know about this.”

Then, she hung up the phone.

On the way back to the hotel, Mu Qiannian repeatedly looked at the DNA results and frowned when she recalled the only memory in her mind.
