Chapter 2980: The Harsher the Backlash

The small orb trembled and instantly shattered Ning Shu’s spiritual consciousness, sending it flying. Ning Shu’s vision immediately went black, and she spat out a mouthful of blood.

Blood poured from her eyes, ears, and nose.

Lying on the bed, Ning Shu couldn’t see anything, even with her eyes open.

Temporarily blinded, she channeled her spiritual energy to repair her bleeding orifices.

Then she pulled the blanket over herself and went straight to sleep.

It seemed she couldn’t handle this thing with brute force. The more force she used, the harsher the backlash.

Even after resting the entire night, her head still felt like it was spinning.

She sat on the bed for a long time, unwilling to get up.

Good lord, when will she ever manage to deal with this thing?

With a creak, the door opened, and a servant girl stepped inside. “Young Master, the Sixth Miss asks you to go to the front hall. She says it’s time to head to the academy.”

Ning Shu sighed. She must’ve been born under an ill star.

Her fate was to be an insignificant follower.

Rubbing her head, Ning Shu got out of bed.

The little servant girl quickly poured her a cup of water. Ning Shu accepted it. “Thanks.”

Taking a sip, she felt a little better, though her soul still hurt–terribly.

She didn’t even know what kind of torment her soul had endured.

It felt like it might just fall apart at this point.

“Sir, please hurry up. The Sixth Miss is waiting,” the servant girl urged.

Ning Shu nodded in acknowledgment. “Got it.”

The servant girl’s watery eyes blinked at her, looking especially adorable.

Ah, the love of beauty was universal. This little girl must’ve fallen for her charm.

Ning Shu tidied her clothes and went next door to find Yu Liuli.

Yu Liuli had her hair tied up in a high ponytail, exuding a bold and confident aura.

“We’re heading to the academy now. When we get there, use your original form,” Yu Liuli told Ning Shu.

“I can turn into a human. Why should I transform into a peacock and parade myself like that?” Ning Shu retorted.

Not only was she stuck as a follower, but she also had to strut around as a peacock.

The entrustor’s original form was a peacock–a rather beautiful one at that.

Walking around in a crowd like that would attract way too much attention.

That went completely against Ning Shu’s principle of keeping a low profile.

“Peacock, you’re a man, and I’m a woman. Walking together like that would inevitably cause misunderstandings. Besides, I’m still engaged to the Fifth Prince. I don’t want people calling me shameless,” Yu Liuli said.

Ning Shu: …

Ning Shu felt that Yu Liuli just wanted to flaunt her status. Having a stunning contracted beast by her side would crush the rumors about her inability to cultivate or form contracts with spirit beasts.

Ning Shu said, “What’s more impressive than having a handsome man by your side, serving you faithfully? That’s way better than a peacock.”

Yu Liuli snorted. “You’re so full of yourself, calling yourself a handsome man.”

Ning Shu countered, “Am I not handsome enough?”

“Fine then,” Yu Liuli said, lifting her chin. “I’ll allow you to serve me faithfully.”

Ning Shu inwardly laughed. “As you wish.”

Following Yu Liuli, Ning Shu walked out through the main gate.

Two carriages were parked outside the entrance.

Yu Linglong stood beside one of the carriages and greeted Yu Liuli gracefully, “Sixth Sister.”

Yu Liuli responded with a dismissive hum and ignored Yu Linglong as she boarded the carriage.

Yu Linglong’s smile remained intact. She curtsied slightly to Ning Shu before boarding the carriage as well.

Ning Shu also climbed into the carriage–there was no way she was walking. After last night, her soul was still very weak and in constant, tearing pain.
