Chapter 2937: Had to Figure Out Who to Entrust Yi Xiaodong To

When Yi Xiaodong was by her side, Ning Shu had to take his well-being into account. She had to be on guard against the fact that someone might use him to threaten her.

She didn’t want him to suffer.

She didn’t want him to end up having to live a homeless life with her, so she’d solve everything first. Once everything was settled, they could live a peaceful life. She could focus on studying and earning money, and maybe even holding an art exhibition for him.

But now wasn’t the time. She was caught in a storm of public opinion, dragging Ou Haoxuan, Mu Yeyao, and Min Haochu down with her.

Ning Shu glanced at the TV, which was still reporting on the Min Corporation.

They were holding an emergency press conference, explaining that the voice in the live stream wasn’t Min Haochu’s, claiming it was a deliberate attempt to frame him and tarnish the Min Corporation’s reputation.

Ning Shu remained calm–such explanations only made things worse.

Looking at Yi Xiaodong, who was eating his noodles, Ning Shu asked, “Are you full?”

Yi Xiaodong patted his stomach. “Yes, I’m full, Big Sis.”

She now had to figure out who to entrust Yi Xiaodong to. As for family, they were basically out of contact, indifferent to the two children’s hardships. These relatives didn’t care, so there was no point in seeking them out.

Ning Shu took Yi Xiaodong shopping for new clothes, underwear, shoes, drawing paper, and a drawing board.

Yi Xiaodong was very happy.

Carrying a large bag of items, they made their way to the bus station. But where should they go?

After some thought, Ning Shu decided to find a peaceful and scenic place, eventually choosing a small town far from the city, where there was a small Daoist temple.

Ning Shu intended to leave Yi Xiaodong at the temple for a while.

She had considered leaving him with a farming family, but villagers could be gossipy, so it was better to place him at the temple where it was more peaceful.

After several days of bus rides, followed by a ride in a pedicab down a dusty, sand-covered road, they finally arrived at the small town and the temple.

The temple looked old and small, clearly having stood the test of time.

Ning Shu found the head priest and explained her purpose.

She turned to Yi Xiaodong and asked, “Are you willing to stay here?”

Though Yi Xiaodong was simple-minded, he could still sense people’s kindness or malice. The temple, with its serene environment, felt quite nice.

“Big Sis, are you leaving again?” Yi Xiaodong tugged at Ning Shu’s sleeve, looking extremely sad like a golden retriever about to be abandoned. Despite being taller than Ning Shu, his drooped shoulders made him look very pitiful.

Ning Shu patted his arm and said, “Big Sis has something important to do. Once it’s done, I’ll come back to get you.”

“Your big sis would never lie to you,” she said sincerely.

Yi Xiaodong, still feeling sad, nodded. “Then you gotta hurry.”

Ning Shu turned to the priest and said, “Please take care of my little brother.” She also donated some incense money.

After taking a deep breath, Ning Shu prepared to leave. Yi Xiaodong and the priest accompanied her down the mountain.

Ning Shu smiled at Yi Xiaodong. “Wait for me, and be good. Listen to the priest.”

Turning to the priest, she said, “You are a cultivator of the Way, please take good care of my brother. I will repay you in the future.”

The priest gave a respectful salute and said, “By the grace of the heavens, I cannot promise anything extraordinary, but I will not mistreat a child.”

Ning Shu was satisfied and smiled gratefully. “Thank you, priest. Thank you.”

She didn’t expect the priest to treat Yi Xiaodong exceptionally well. She only wanted to make sure he had food and was not bullied.

Ning Shu had packed Yi Xiaodong’s suitcase with many instant foods, so he could eat whenever he was hungry.

Due to his intellectual disability, Yi Xiaodong wasn’t met with sympathy but rather with ridicule, often called “stupid.”
