Su Hongxing froze for a moment, without responding.

She was sure she had deeply loved Ye Qilan once, but that belonged to her past life.

As for the Ye Qilan of this life, to be honest, she wasn’t even certain if she’d ever loved him. The only thing she was sure of was that when Ye Qilan died, she had wanted to go with him and never wake up again.

But none of that mattered anymore. What mattered now was that Ye Qilan and Xiao Ji were living under the same roof. The two were like fire and water, utterly incompatible. Her only option was to steer clear of them as much as possible to avoid sparking any more conflict.

Su Hongxing resolved to stay out of the way of both men, but Ye Qilan wasn’t about to let her off so easily. Except during her midday naps, he was constantly finding ways to make his presence known.

Right now, she was weeding in the vegetable garden when Little Pudding came running over and asked, “Mom, Dad wants to know how many spoonfuls of oil he should use for stir-frying the greens.”

Su Hongxing washed her hands and crouched down to ask Little Pudding, “Aren’t you tired from all this running back and forth?”

“Not tired, super happy!” Little Pudding’s eyes squinted into crescents as he grinned at his mother’s gentle demeanor.

Su Hongxing gently pinched Little Pudding’s cheek. “You’re usually so clever. Why are you acting so silly now?”

Being treated like an errand boy for Ye Qilan and still so thrilled about it–what a foolish child.

“Mom, I’m not silly at all. I just really, really love you!” Forgetting his errand’s purpose, Little Pudding threw his arms around Su Hongxing’s neck, cuddling up to her affectionately.

Su Hongxing didn’t say anything more. She picked Little Pudding up and headed toward the main house.

At the kitchen door, she saw Ye Qilan, dressed in a suit, cooking. Her gaze fixed on him. “Are you heading out somewhere?”

Otherwise, why would he be wearing a suit at home, and with dress shoes no less? It was too strange.

“Who said I’m going anywhere?” Ye Qilan looked up as Su Hongxing walked in. “You’re just in time. I’m about to stir-fry the greens. How many spoonfuls of oil should I use?”

Su Hongxing stepped into the kitchen and gave him a once-over. “If you’re not going out, why are you wearing a suit?”

While the suit did make him look even more dashing and refined, it seemed completely out of place in the kitchen.

“What do you think of this suit?” Ye Qilan dodged her question and threw one of his own instead.

Su Hongxing studied him carefully once more. “It fits well. Also, it’s quite handsome.” Her tone was measured when she said “quite handsome,” deliberately holding back.

With Ye Qilan’s face and build, the suit accentuated all his best features. He was so striking it was hard to tear your eyes away.

“Got it. So, in your eyes, wearing a suit makes me look quite handsome. That’s why I’m wearing it,” he said.

Ye Qilan’s reply left Su Hongxing momentarily speechless. So, he was just wearing a suit at home to show off? Really?
