Chapter 41: Can’t Afford to Offend

He wanted to see the real her, but she would not let herself act out of line in front of him.

Ning Yichen understood that she wanted to show her most perfect self in front of him so he did not mind. However, at this moment when he saw Su Zhixi showing her natural self, he felt it was a pity.

Su Lianxi sensed that the man was lost in his thoughts, so she gently grabbed his wrist as she said, feeling upset, “Yichen.”

It was then that the man returned to his senses and turned to look at Su Lianxi’s beautiful face. His mind was set.

Lianxi was his true responsibility, and no matter what she was like, he could never let her down.

At the thought of this, he smiled. “Do you want to eat the prawns? I can peel them for you.”

Instantly, she broke into a smile and said, “Yes.”

The man rolled up his sleeves and picked a prawn from the plate.

Looking at this sight, Lin Shuyue was very pleased and pretended to chide, “Yichen, how can you do such things? Lianxi, you’re too insensible.”

“It’s alright.” Ning Yichen smiled warmly. “It’s my pleasure as her boyfriend.”

Su Zhixi’s gaze fell on the man’s attractively beautiful hands and tuned out.

She thought that she had let it go, but her heart still ached at the sight of this.

Back then, as she looked at him lying on the bed, she used to imagine what kind of person he was. In fact, he really could have met all her expectations.

He was a flawless boyfriend.

Yet he did not belong to her.

She suddenly lost her appetite, and just as she was putting down her chopsticks, her eyes met Su Lianxi’s.

She had just eaten a prawn that Ning Yichen had fed her, and she gave her a provoking smile.

Su Zhixi tightened her fists and had a strong urge to tell Ning Yichen the truth. She did not care about his attitude toward her and merely did not want Su Lianxi to provoke her like this again.

However, Ning Yichen would not believe her. Since Su Lianxi dared to be so brazen in front of her, she must have been well-prepared. As long as she spoke, she would be at the brunt of Ning Yichen’s disdain.

More importantly, she did not want herself to appear so pathetic.

She suddenly said, “Daddy, I still have to go back and rush my report, so I’ll leave first.”

Her father frowned. “But you haven’t actually eaten.”

“That’s right, Sister.” Su Lianxi continued, “Yichen and I booked a feast and a bottle of 1982 Lafite; you have to give us some face.”

The moment she said that, the private room’s door opened. The manager, donning a uniform, said apologetically to Ning Yichen, “Mr. Ning, I’m sorry, but we ran out of the 1982 Lafite that you ordered earlier.”

Ning Yichen furrowed his brows. “What happened? I’ve even paid the deposit!”

Su Lianxi was unhappy too. She had just shown off in front of her older sister, yet the next moment, the manager said that they’d run out of stock. This was clearly an embarrassment for her!

The manager nodded and bowed. “Really sorry, but something cropped up… We’ll pay you the double of your deposit and give you a bottle of 1986 Lafite. Although it isn’t as great as the 1982 Lafite, it’s really not bad. Are you alright with this arrangement?”

Ning Yichen said in his deep voice. “Never mind, since you said that something cropped up. What happened exactly?”

The manager appeared reluctant. “Mr. Ning, please don’t put me in a difficult position…”

“Someone offered a higher price?” Ning Yichen said, feeling displeased. “I’ll offer double the amount.”
