Chapter 45: Sunny Guy

The night breeze rose, and leaves tumbled into the yard.

Wen Xi walked as fast as her feet could take her toward her car. She didn’t even look back.

She had to get moving now- it was even going to rain soon. It was now or never.

Images of He Yan “catching” her when she hid in the corner flashed across her mind, and in that instant, her heart fell into chaos.

Panic, regret, and even frustration banged at her chest in a craze, forcing her to get out of this messy place as soon as possible.

Only after driving some distance away did she finally calm down. She asked herself, ‘why run?’

She didn’t mean to spy on him. She just had to explain herself. Plus, what did it even matter if she saw, He Yan wouldn’t do anything to her.

She had reacted too strongly, too unnecessarily.

She rubbed her head and let out a soft breath, telling herself it was alright.

Her phone rang, and she looked at the new message.

Her heart jumped, completely startled.

‘Don’t run so fast, you might trip. Get home safely.’

Wen Xi stared at the message, biting her lip. A smile seemed to creep out of nowhere and onto her lips, though she didn’t even realize it.

She felt that the He Yan people described was very different from what he was actually like. High and mighty? He wasn’t any of that.

He was a sunny kind of guy, a warm person that touched your heart. It might not be an obvious warmth, but when it came, it hit you.

These few messages made her see his generosity and forgiving heart. He was always trying to stand in her shoes to think about things. He didn’t even mention Peimi, avoiding any awkwardness.

If that was the case, she decided she’d act as if she hadn’t seen anything.

Thinking over it, she sent a message back.

‘Alright, tell you when I get back.’

A few seconds passed.

‘Alright.’

She was driving Yunchuan’s car, and so she drove to his house.

After reaching his house and sending a text to He Yan, to which he responded with: ‘Ok’, their conversation ended.

Wen Xi touched that ‘Ok’ on her screen a couple of times, scrolling it up and down. She felt like this had something of value she had to analyze, it felt like there was something behind this ‘Ok.’

Shaking her head, she decided it was just a word. She was overthinking.

Getting out of the car and giving the keys to Yunchuan’s maid, she left the house quietly.

By the time Yunchuan received the keys and asked her where she was, she was already in a taxi.

Yunchuan called her, but she asked him to come to a barbeque at the Wen house tomorrow night herself.

It didn’t matter what they did, she just had to avoid any public situation where Yunchuan could show off their “love” to other people.

It was eleven o’clock, the time Muyun had asked her to meet.

She wanted to make Muyun give up her last bit of struggle, releasing all the strength she had in her bones.

Yunchuan said yes right away, and arrived an hour early the next day.

He was with his parents, as well.

Wen Xi felt that something was wrong, and her suspicions were confirmed after the barbeque.

Ruiqin was holding Wei Kexin. “Xixi’s already nineteen, twenty next year. It’s an appropriate age to be married in our country. I was thinking, maybe we could let the marriage happen sooner- next month is a good time. Let’s finish this earlier and let the two become a true couple- we can both have grandchildren then!”

Wen Xi’s heart tightened. It seemed like Yunchuan could feel something was off and changed the date by himself.

Just as she was thinking about it, a hand grabbed hers. she raised her head to see Yunchuan’s gentle, black eyes.
