Chapter 41: Why Was He Always Laughing at Her?

She had seen what she had just seen- it was true that Peimi had just put the keys in his hand. Why was he over here then?

As she was deep in thought, she heard the man speak. “When Grandma told me about the license plate, I thought it was Yunchuan.”

Wen Xi followed his gaze to the car. It was true, he did have some kind of relationship with Yunchuan. Of course, he’d know the license plate.

But, she didn’t want to talk about Yunchuan, so she never gave a reply.

After a while, she spoke. “Let’s go.”

As she walked over to the driver’s seat, her hand was stopped lightly.

A warmth coming from her wrist made her freeze, and she flinched subconsciously.

He Yan didn’t keep the hold for too long, only stopping her footsteps and letting go of her hand. “It’s not my style to let a woman drive. Car keys.”

The moment his sweet voice finished the sentence, he extended his hand.

Wen Xi didn’t hesitate, quickly giving the keys to him before turning around and getting in the car, unintentionally making eye contact.

She still caught sight of the man’s lips, however. It was just a moment, but it had tugged into a smile.

Wen Xi was pretty troubled. Why was he always laughing at her?

His smile made her feel like she was just some kid who had never seen the world, a kid who always embarrassed herself in front of the adult-like him, a child that needed to be protected.

Looking back, the first few times they met after getting reincarnated… He’d been smiling and laughing the entire time!

She touched her face, wondering if there was something dirty on it.

The car went forward steadily, and the lights of the buildings around them swept past.

Just as Wen Xi thought they were going to stay silent during the entire trip, the man suddenly turned into the parking lot of a shopping complex.

“I’ve been too busy these days, I didn’t have time to prepare Huanhuan’s present.” He explained.

Wen Xi nodded. He was going shopping for gifts.

He got out of the car, but Wen Xi didn’t move.

The car door wasn’t closed, and as he stood outside of the car he looked at her, one hand in his pocket, not planning on moving.

Wen Xi had been pretending to look to the road in front, in a daydream, but his aura had reached her, and she couldn’t keep it up any longer. She awkwardly looked at him. “Want me to… Help you look for a gift?”

“Sounds good.”

Wen Xi pouted. Why did it feel like he was waiting specifically for that sentence?

The two walked shoulder to shoulder into the shopping area. While they didn’t have their hands locked together, any passerby would see them as a couple.

For no other reason than the fact that they looked good together.

Wen Xi didn’t think about that though, only focusing on the gift instead.

And so, as one of the staff recommended something to He Yan saying things like “this would suit your girlfriend”, she accidentally pulled out the items on the rack the wrong way and suffered a few big toy boxes falling on her head.

Unable to evade them in time, her body reacted in the only way it could- and she closed her eyes.

Even so, the pain never came. A warm meat wall was thereupon her instead.

Opening her eyes, she saw the man with his arm above her head, strong, solid, and powerful.

His shoulder was leaning into the rack as well, blocking the falling toys.

In this instance, normal people would pull the victim away, instead of using their bodies to take the hit.

Subconsciously, Wen Xi felt that it was because she didn’t let people touch her hands, and that was why he did so. After all, the way she reacted to her arm being grabbed at the car would have been quite memorable.

This was the first time she’d felt so taken care of her whole life, and this man was the first to make her feel like this.

Her face was calm, but a warmth spread in her heart.

“Tell me if you can’t reach something, I’ll help. Don’t force yourself.”

He Yan didn’t think as much of it as she did, only picking up the toys instead and holding one in each hand.

“Which one?”
