“Are-Are you alright? ……. Okay. Let’s go to sleep earlier than usual today.”

“Ye-Yeah.”

I nodded at Alaine. Alaine was quick on her feet once she already made up her mind. She quickly tidied the wine and wine glass, got ready to sleep then she went into the cover. Everything only took one minute for her. 

“Then I will turn the light off.”

“Hm.”

Hearing the confirmation from Alaine, I stopped the magic that illuminated the room with bright light. The room was now dominated by darkness. 

“Good night.”

“Yeah. Good night.”

I said good night and pulled the cover up. 

“………..Nh…”

My body was trembling in the dark. I had a vague fear of the dark. Somehow I had a strange feeling of fear that I wouldn’t be able to move ever again. 

I pushed down the feeling of fear and closed my eyes. 

Not yet…. I’m not tired to the extent that I’m going to pass out yet. 

I couldn’t sleep until my sleep deprivation reached the level where my head hurt, my vision blurring and I couldn’t think straight due to lack of sleep. I couldn’t sleep until I reached my breaking point. 

I still couldn’t sleep yet. 

But maybe…. Just a while ago, I had a headache and was suffering from it. Maybe contrary to my expectation,  the damage from that pain is enough to make me lose my consciousness. 

With that hope in mind, I let my consciousness gradually fall into the darkness.

I could taste the pain. The hallucination hit me. Arms. Arms that were tainted with the darkness. I couldn’t move. I couldn’t do anything as those arms approached me. But I was certain those arms were approaching me. I could feel them approaching me. Those arms passed over my chest, caressing my heart, my head. Slowly. And then… Those arms bared their fangs at me. 

Gradually, I was being chipped at. From my arms, from my legs. Those arms that were stained by darkness were chipping my body away. Tearing my skin and flesh apart.

Ah… Ah… Aaah…

And then, those barbaric arms went to my heart. Crushing my heart. 

What is it? My heart? My….

“Haah…. Haah…. Haahh….”

I was jolted awake because of my nightmare. My body was trembling. I tried to calm my heavy breathing so I wouldn’t wake Alaine up. 

Scary. So scary. 

I couldn’t stop my body from trembling. I feared the dark. I couldn’t sleep.

Again and again. Just how many times do I need to go through this…..

I couldn’t go back to sleep anymore. I was too frightened to go back to sleep. I refused to go back to sleep. 

“Nnh….”

I carefully got up so I wouldn’t wake Alaine up.
