Chapter 22: First Meeting

Mila didn’t know Fortune Mall was Chaucer’s business. She was focused on shopping and buying clothes. After busying herself all morning, she finally bought a few clothes she liked.

In the end, Mila paid her own bill and didn’t spend Elaine’s money.

At five in the afternoon, Chaucer came home from work. When the two of them sat down to have dinner, Mila casually mentioned what happened at the mall today.

“Chaucer, Elaine, and I went shopping today. She said she saw someone who looked a lot like you, but that man disappeared in the blink of an eye. I didn’t even see him.”

“Most celebrities in the entertainment industry marry into rich families. What do you think? Do you want to marry into rich families too?” Chaucer suddenly looked up and asked.

Mila replied without hesitation, “I don’t. I heard there are many rules, and I won’t be happy there. I like my life now. I don’t have to worry about making a living, and my career is also taking off.”

Mila’s family wasn’t rich, but they had enough money. Her parents doted on her very much and grew up to become a content person.

Chaucer smiled, feeling very happy.

In the Imperial Hotel in the capital city.

Chaucer and Mila arrived half an hour early and stood at the door to welcome the elders.

Mila said, “Grandpa, don’t worry. Chaucer treats me very well.”

They reached the private room at that moment, and old Mr. Sullivan stopped talking.

As soon as the Sullivan family entered, Old Mr. Chapman immediately walked over and led him to the master seat.

When the parents of the young couple met for the first time, they all seemed a little reserved. The two grandfathers introduced their families.

Although there was no wedding, they still had to go through the motions. Chaucer and Mila stood up and served tea to Mila’s elders first.

The two of them walked up to Old Mr. Sullivan with teacups in their hands. They bent down slightly and handed the tea to him.

“Grandpa, have some tea.”

Old Mr. Sullivan took the teacup and sipped the tea. He smiled at the young couple. “Chaucer, we only have one child in our family. We’ve doted on Mila since she was young. If she’s willful or makes a mistake, please bear with her. I hope the two of you can get along well.”

With that, Old Mr. Sullivan gave Chaucer a red packet.

Then, the two of them served tea to Yvonne and Gordon and brought the tea to the Chapmans.

“Dad, Mom!” Mila addressed her in-laws sweetly.

Jen and Simon Chapman nodded. Jen opened a velvet box on the table, took out a jade bracelet, and put it on Mila’s wrist.

“Mila, this is my gift to you. Do you like it?”

“I like it. Thank you, Mom.”

This was the first time Jen saw Mila. The girl was gentle and sweet. She wore a white dress with embroidery. The dress was tight around the waist, and the hem of the dress was layered with light gauze. She had porcelain skin and lovely pink lips. She was like Snow White from a fairy tale, and she was really likable.

After Mila and Chaucer finished serving tea, they returned to their seats. Right after that, exquisite dishes were brought to the table.

Yvonne was an art teacher, and Jen had also studied painting since she was young. The two of them had a lot in common and chatted happily.

Gordon also chatted with Simon, Chaucer’s father. The two grandfathers had known each other for many years and started drinking right away.

Everybody else was chatting happily. Mila and Chaucer were the only quiet ones who focused on eating as if they had nothing to say.

Mila looked up and met Yvonne’s gaze. Only then did she awkwardly pick up a piece of meat and put it on Chaucer’s plate.

“Chaucer, have some chicken.”

Chaucer looked at the “meat” in his bowl and was stunned for a moment. “Mila, you’ve given me a chunk of ginger.”
