Lu Yuwen asked again, “Have you watched related films or read books about it?”

Su Man thought for a moment. “Hmm… I’ve seen a few detective movies. Also watched crime drama shows, but they felt overly exaggerated, and I couldn’t stick with them.”

“There’s a detective movie that you might enjoy,” Lu Yuwen said. “After dinner, would you like to watch it together?”

Su Man froze for a moment, hesitated, and asked, “At the cinema?”

It seemed like only people with close relationships would go to the cinema together.

“No need. That movie is pretty famous; it should be available on streaming platforms,” Lu Yuwen explained, his tone calm and reassuring, easing her final doubts. “It’s less than two hours long–tells the story of a young detective just starting out. In some ways, it resembles your situation. How about it? Want to watch? I could use a rewatch myself.”

Su Man had no reason to refuse. She quickly nodded and smiled. “Sure.”

With both of them in agreement, the atmosphere became even more pleasant.

After finishing the pasta, Su Man stopped Lu Yuwen and took it upon herself to clean up the dishes. Meanwhile, Lu Yuwen went to the living room, picked up the remote control, and began fiddling with the oversized smart TV in Su Man’s home.

When Su Man emerged from the kitchen, she found the living room dimly lit. The doors and windows had all been closed, the curtains drawn tight, and the TV screen frozen at the opening scene of the film, its bright light standing out against the darkness.

Lu Yuwen was sitting on one side of the sofa. He lightly patted the spot next to him and smiled faintly. “Had to set the mood–to help you immerse yourself in the story.”

Su Man couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

She found Lu Yuwen to be so humorous and meticulous. The attention to detail he showed during dinner with the pasta was commendable, and now, even for a movie, he went as far as to set the environment like this…

Smiling, Su Man walked over and sat down.

Lu Yuwen pressed play, and the opening music of the film instantly enveloped them.

He handed her the remote, leaned closer, and asked in a low voice, “Is this volume alright?”

She froze. At this distance… they seemed a little too close. Instinctively, she wanted to move away but stopped when she saw Lu Yuwen looking at her in confusion.

Lu Yuwen smiled at her, then turned back to focus on the movie.

She felt a wave of relaxation and couldn’t help thinking her earlier hesitation was overly melodramatic. Compared to the snug seats in a cinema, the distance between her and Lu Yuwen now was perfectly normal.

Had it been too long since she’d spent time with another man? Why had she become so rigid and old-fashioned?
