Su Man was stunned for a moment. She walked into the kitchen and saw Lu Yuwen chatting with the family’s cook, Aunt Zhang. The electric crockpot was puffing out steam, and the bright kitchen was filled with the fragrant aroma of cooked rice.

“You woke up so early.” She was surprised and hadn’t expected Lu Yuwen to get to know Aunt Zhang so quickly, let alone chat so well with her.

Lu Yuwen turned his head and smiled at her, “Good morning.”

He was handsome, the kind of refined and elegant type. With a slight smile, he seemed to merge with the morning light behind him, exuding a calming presence.

“Good morning…” Su Man greeted him awkwardly.

Suddenly remembering something, she let out a small cry and hurriedly turned to Aunt Zhang, “Oh no! Aunt Zhang, my mom said no pork or seafood for breakfast these days. Did you put shrimp in this porridge?”

Su Man hesitated and asked, “Is it suitable for someone recovering?”

“It’s perfect for that.” Lu Yuwen explained gently, “It’s more nutritious than vegetable porridge and easier to digest. When are you heading to the hospital? You can go after breakfast–your parents are probably still sleeping now.”

Su Man thought about it and nodded, “Hmm, I’m not in a rush since I took the day off today.”

She had taken the day off for Li Li’s awards ceremony.

Thinking about it, Su Man remembered Li Li next door. She wondered if he had gotten up yet…

Aunt Zhang lifted the crockpot lid, and the aroma of the rice porridge became even stronger. The white, sticky shredded chicken porridge was scooped into a small green porcelain bowl, its delicious scent tempting Su Man to swallow her saliva.

The porridge today was truly excellent.

“Aunt Zhang, is there extra porridge? I’d like to bring a bowl to Li Li,” Su Man said.

Aunt Zhang nodded, “There’s plenty. I’ll scoop more; Mrs. Li and Mr. Li can try it too.”

As she spoke, Aunt Zhang grabbed a bigger bowl and filled it to the brim before handing it to Su Man.

Su Man took it happily, still in her pajamas, and stepped lightly out the door.

Lu Yuwen watched her leave thoughtfully. After a moment, he asked Aunt Zhang casually, “Has Miss Su’s boyfriend been living next door?”

Actually, Su Man had mentioned it to him yesterday, but he wanted to hear a different perspective from someone else.

“No, no, he’s not her boyfriend.” Aunt Zhang laughed while shaking her head, wiping down the countertop as she spoke. “But it’s pretty close–they grew up together and have a great relationship. Both families have already tacitly approved of them being together. Now it’s just a matter of waiting for Li Li to figure it out.”

Lu Yuwen raised an eyebrow slightly, “…figure it out?”
