The taxi drove for more than an hour and stopped at a weed-covered farm.

The bearded driver turned his head:

“Sir, your address is here; it looks like this farm is still under construction.”

The driver pointed to a few old houses in the farm and continued:

“This area is mostly private land, many rich people buy land to build villas, resorts and the like… The newspaper says, in the future Brooklyn will be developed like Manhattan, everyone is betting on investment plans.”

“But, in my view, how can a poor place like Brooklyn develop? The rich will ultimately go to Manhattan, even New Jersey is better than Brooklyn.”

He pats the numbers on the fare meter, over 20 US dollars, looking at Lin Xian:

“Sir, this place is very remote, it will be difficult to find a taxi when you leave. I could wait here for you, and you can settle the fare on the return trip.”

“No need.”

Lin Xian shook his head, directly handing over a hundred-dollar bill:

“The rest is your tip, no need for change.”

This trip to meet with Einstein, he didn’t know how long they would talk nor what secrets Einstein might have hidden in this farm.

“Just go back to Brooklyn, someone will come to pick me up, and I’ll take their car back.”

The bearded driver gazed at the green hundred-dollar bill, smiled widely at the image of Franklin on the bill:

He swiftly unbuckled his seatbelt and jumped out of the car, respectfully helped Lin Xian open the car door, bowing low:

“Wish you a pleasant day!”

Afterward, as if afraid Lin Xian would change his mind, the driver sped off at full throttle, leaving only a cloud of dust.

Lin Xian straightened the top hat on his head.

Touching his protruding cheekbones, he looked at the dilapidated farm before him.

November 5th.

The day of his agreed meeting with Einstein had finally arrived.

Initially, he worried about how to hide his voice and appearance, but the Space-Time Exclusion reaction was a timely rain, perfectly solved his disguise problem.

Now.

His appearance was that of a China and Western mixed race;

His voice was a hoarse Irish tone;

His name… was Douglas.

This was Lin Xian’s new identity in 1952, through which he would formally approach Einstein.

Stride forward, Lin Xian walked into the vast farm.

The entire farm only had a few houses, Einstein should be waiting in one of them.

Lin Xian pushed doors one by one to enter.

Some houses seemed to once house workers, with some bunk beds; some empty rooms were old and covered with spider webs, while some warehouses were piled with rusty tools.

After checking every house, Lin Xian found no signs of any living room, meeting room, or study/tea room.

“This…”

Einstein specifically invited him to the farm for a chat, surely there must be a place for tea and drinks, at least?

Every house was so rundown.

Surely they wouldn’t have to bundle up in freezing weather, open up emotionally outdoors and become popsicles?

“No, this definitely isn’t Einstein’s style.”

Lin Xian paced around the houses on the farm, starting to analyze.

Einstein is a renowned scientist, a person of status and reputation, and also has good manners.

They conversed so well at the Halloween ball, empathizing with each other, it wouldn’t make sense for him to arrange a meeting in such a shabby place.

There must be a problem here!

“Where is Einstein?”

Could he be standing him up?

The other party clearly promised he’d be in the farm from morning until night all day on November 5th waiting for him.

Yet, no living room, no chat area, and no Einstein!

Mostly wood scraps, some cut tile corners, and by nudging the ground with his foot, he found a few cut-off wire casings.

This was enough to indicate that somewhere in this farm had been renovated, and it was of a high standard.

“I need to sort out my thoughts.”

Lin Xian stroked his chin, summarizing the farm’s oddities:

1, There are worker dormitories, construction waste, signs of carpentry and electrical work, indicating that somewhere in the farm went through luxurious renovation. But oddly, not only are there no workers, there aren’t any signs of renovation… Where did Einstein’s renovation money go?

2, Since 1945, Einstein began frequently passing by the charity house where CC was located; it wasn’t difficult to deduce, the renovation of this old farm should have started from 1945, and Einstein often came to act as Supervisor… It’s unbelievable that after seven long years, there are no traces of renovation visible on this farm.
