The room was silent and tranquil.

Alexander Summers stared blankly at Purple Summers, as if turned to stone, motionless.

Purple had only intended to tease him, but seeing his reaction made her feel guilty and slightly uneasy. She averted her face and said awkwardly, “I was just joking…”

The stiff air finally relaxed with her words.

Alexander propped himself up and lay down beside her, his palm naturally coming to rest on her belly as he asked, “When did you find out?”

Purple twisted her body uncomfortably, “I really was just joking…”

“Joking?” Alexander gazed at her distrustfully, “Did you have your period this month?”

“No, but it should be soon…” Purple whispered, “Either today or tomorrow.”

Both of them fell silent.

Purple was silent out of guilt, while Alexander was scrutinizing her, suspicious of the changes in her expression.

After a long while, Purple, unable to bear his staring any longer, turned over to face away from him and muttered, “Even if you stare at me like this, I can’t just create a baby…”

After a moment of thought, Alexander got up, opened the drawer of the bedside table, and took out a box of pregnancy test sticks, nudging Purple.

“Go and test,” he said.

Just to put his mind at ease, Purple obliged.

She didn’t think it was likely because she had just taken a test recently, and with such a short interval since then, she feared the result wouldn’t be any different.

After taking the test, Purple saw the single red line and felt calm.

Amidst the calm, there was a tinge of disappointment.

Getting pregnant is so difficult…

Thinking of Alexander outside waiting for the news, she couldn’t help but feel she’d spoken out of turn. It was really not right to make that kind of joke… it had given him false hope for nothing.

When she opened the door, Alexander indeed was waiting eagerly on the other side.

Alexander raised an eyebrow, took the pregnancy test stick, and inspected it gravely.

But Alexander scrutinized it for a full two minutes.

“Purple, you’re pregnant,” Alexander said.

His tone carried neither joy nor shock, just a flat statement devoid of any emotion.

Or perhaps he hadn’t adjusted his emotions yet, uncertain of how to express this sentence.

Purple felt that Alexander was getting back at her.

Because she’d made a low-level joke, he was now tricking her in return.

Purple cursed in her heart but managed to look surprised, and then let out a chuckling smile, “Alright, we’re even now. Don’t be mad.”

Finally, Alexander’s gaze shifted from the pregnancy test stick to Purple, “Two lines mean pregnant, right?”

“There are really two lines?” Purple leaned in to inspect and saw in the display area one vibrant red line and another very light, faint pink line.

“Could it be a quality issue?” Purple furrowed her brows, suspecting the pregnancy test stick was inaccurate.

Alexander asked her, “Shall we try again?”

Purple was also a bit eager but hesitated as she unwrapped the pregnancy test stick, “I don’t have… I haven’t got any…”

So embarrassing, taking a pregnancy test… required urine.

Alexander immediately went to pour her water.

Purple forced herself to drink most of the glass.

Then the two of them sat foolishly on the bed, waiting for Purple’s bladder to send a signal.

But it just wouldn’t come…

Alexander poured more water, Purple shook her head in agony, “I really can’t drink anymore.”

He was anxious for a result, yet watching Purple’s discomfort brought him distress.

“No more drinking, we’ll go to the hospital tomorrow,” Alexander embraced her, gently caressing her soft belly, feeling amazing, “You must be pregnant.”
