Chapter 3: My Man

Lan Hui was about the same age as Lin Yi, 18 years old.

Although she was a child from the countryside, Lan Hui was the youngest child in the family and the only girl, so her family doted on her and did not let her do farm work.

Therefore, Lan Hui looked fair and clean, and her hands were very delicate and smooth.

Lan Hui was wearing a blue coat with white flowers today. Two black and smooth braids hung beside her shoulders, making her look cute and lively.

Although Lan Hui was not as beautiful as Lin Yi, she was still a famous beauty in the village. Before Jing Yan came to the village, many young men in the village already liked Lan Hui, including Lin Yi’s current husband, Wei Luan.

Wei Luan looked at Lan Hui with mixed feelings. This was the girl he had secretly liked in the past, but he was now married to another woman and she already had someone she liked.

“Brother Wei Luan, why did you get off work early today? Are you feeling unwell? Or do you have a fever?” Lan Hui looked at Wei Luan in concern. Suddenly, she reached out to touch Wei Luan’s forehead.

Before Lan Hui could touch Wei Luan, Lin Yi grabbed her hand.

Lin Yi smiled and looked at Lan Hui, “Lan Hui, talk if you have to, but don’t touch him. Wei Luan is my man now. It’s not appropriate for you to touch him, understand?”

Wei Luan and Lan Hui were stunned by Lin Yi’s words.

When Wei Luan heard Lin Yi call him her man, his heart beat faster. This was the first time he heard a woman say that he was her man.

Lan Hui only reacted after a while, and she immediately revealed an innocent expression. “Sister Lin Yi, I’m just concerned about Brother Wei. You’re from the city, so you don’t know how to take care of others. Even if Brother Wei feels unwell, you won’t care, right? After all, you’ve always had someone else in your heart. Brother Wei has helped me many times in the past, so what’s wrong with me coming to see him?”

They were talking at the door. The neighbors eating lunch under the acacia tree also looked over. A few children even ran to Wei Luan’s door with bowls and chopsticks in hand.

When Lin Yi heard Lan Hui’s words, she could smell her pretentiousness a mile away and felt like she was about to faint.

Was Lan Hui trying to slander her? Wasn’t she trying to sow discord by saying that she liked someone else in front of Wei Luan?

No, correction. She did not have any feelings for Wei Luan. At most, they were roommates living in the same house.

Even though they were roommates, Lin Yi could not tolerate Lan Hui slandering her in front of Wei Luan.

She laughed coldly. “How do you know that I don’t know how to take care of people? Are you the only one in the world who knows how to do it? Do you have a thing for taking care of other people’s husbands? Just take care of your man and keep your nose out of other people’s family matters.”

Lin Yi’s expression was cold and serious. Lan Hui’s face turned red after hearing her retort.

Lan Hui gritted her teeth and turned her head to look at Wei Luan. Her voice was filled with indignance as tears welled up in her eyes. “Brother Wei Luan, did Sister Lin Yi misunderstand something? I didn’t mean that at all. I just wanted to see you. It’s all my fault for making her angry…”

Wei Luan was just a man with no experience in relationships, so he could not tell Lan Hui was pretentious.

Seeing Lan Hui targeted by Lin Yi, Wei Luan opened his mouth and was about to say something when Lin Yi pulled him behind her, “You know that your actions will cause others to misunderstand, so stop doing it. Didn’t your family teach you anything?”

Lan Hui knew that Lin Yi was from the city and had a bad temper, but she did not expect Lin Yi to be so domineering.

Even more surprising, Lin Yi had always been stupid and brainless, but her eyes were filled with shrewdness now. Lin Yi did not even give Wei Luan a chance to speak up for Lan Hui. She had always held the initiative.

She reacted so fast that she did not resemble the old idiotic Lin Yi at all.

Lan Hui glared at Lin Yi and was about to say something when Aunt Feng walked over. “What’s going on? Lan Hui, why are you here?”

Lan Hui pouted when she saw Aunt Feng. She walked over and held Aunt Feng’s arm. “Aunt Feng, I just came to see Brother Wei, but Sister Lin Yi scolded me.”

“Who’s scolding you? I’m just trying to reason with you. Wei Luan and I are already married, and you wanted to touch him just now. Shouldn’t I interfere?” Lin Yi looked at Aunt Feng, “Aunt Feng, what do you think?”
