“No, the landlady has saved me some food.”

“Fine, I’ll take Sweet Kitty out for dinner then.”

“You can’t come into my house; did you make copies of my keys?”

“What, you just noticed? Hmm? Idiot.”

“…” Jasmine was indeed angry. “You also can’t just take Sweet Kitty. She’s frightened of strangers, and she bites.”

“How very like you.”

“I’m being serious,” Jasmine said, irritated.

“You bring her, and I’ll bring you. Let’s go out to eat together.”

While she went upstairs, he sat in the car and made calls to his subordinates to handle the situation with Linnie Elwin.

Later, in college, I worked as a librarian, a waitress, I even washed dishes… lots and lots, too many to count. But the most profitable was selling… you know,” Jasmine concluded, a smile spreading across her face.

She hadn’t sold that “thing” for long before bumping into him again three years later.

But she couldn’t deny that it had been extraordinarily lucrative.

“That’s quite impressive,” Sylvan said, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.

Hmm? Jasmine detected a sarcastic undertone in his voice.

A touch of cold indifference lingered in Sylvan’s eyes.

There were many things she kept from him, hidden tightly away.

“With skills like that, it looks like supporting a family won’t be a problem in the future.”

Hmm? Jasmine thought the comment sounded odd.

“It’s just for a bit of pocket money, nothing more,” said Jasmine, a little sheepishly, while her hand stroked Sweet Kitty’s head. “I didn’t let it interfere with my studies.”

Jasmine and Sylvan chatted casually.

They steered clear of subjects they shouldn’t touch upon, instead talking about food, courses, scenery…

His conversation was cultivated and gentlemanly, and in his every movement she recognized the Sylvan she had once known so well.

But in the years that had passed, his features had gained a mature charm and an air of elegance.

Sometimes Jasmine would doze off in the car, and upon waking, as soon as she saw him, her heart would settle into a quiet, comfortable dust.
