Chapter 24: Eating

Yi Ke hadn’t been woken up by chickens today. She’d been woken up by a knock on the door.

Just as she opened the door and was about to throw a tantrum, she met Yu Xiang, whose eyes were filled with tears. The little girl did not even comb her hair. She held the candy she had given her for the past two days like a little hedgehog and looked pitiful.

Yu Yu didn’t have much of an opinion about who came as a guest. However, his eyes lit up when he saw Yu Heng preparing meat dishes. He hadn’t eaten meat for almost half a year. This time, he could finally have some meat.

Ever since Yu Xiang and Yu Yu could cook, Yu Heng basically didn’t cook anymore. He didn’t have any obsession with eating, as long as he could fill his stomach. However, his culinary skills were actually very good. This time, he couldn’t let the two children cook porridge.

Yu Heng deftly slaughtered a chicken and planned to make braised chicken nuggets. There was also cured meat made from his family’s New Year’s pig. He stir-fried bamboo shoots with cured meat, blanched the wild vegetables he picked, and mixed them with cold water. He cooked corn and made rice.

Yi Ke stood at the door and watched him busy himself. She was a little unhappy. She had never seen Yu Heng treat her like this on the day she came.
