Chapter 1232: Sincere Remorse

Su Jing had no objections. She simply followed orders.

Not long after, Su Shen returned home with the three children. When Su Bing saw Yu Fang sitting in their home, accompanied by Xu Fan and Xu Sheng, the serious expressions on their faces immediately set his nerves on edge.

Stepping forward, he confronted them bluntly, “You promised me you wouldn’t trouble our family anymore. Leave. You’re not welcome here.”

Faced with her eldest grandson’s cold hostility, Yu Fang’s eyes welled up with tears, and she replied, shamefaced, “Su Bing, please believe me, we’re not here to disturb your lives. Grandma promises–this will be the last time we come looking for you. If you don’t want to see us, we will never show up again.”

Xu Fan added quickly, “Su Bing, we only want to discuss some matters with your parents. Your biological father left behind an inheritance that needs to be transferred to your adoptive parents’ names so they can manage it. When you grow up, you will inherit it. Consider it the Xu family’s way of making amends.”

At this point, Xu Fan had no patience for pretense. He knew full well that no matter what the Xu family did, they would never earn the forgiveness of these three children.

Su Bing’s voice was cold as ice. “We don’t want your money. We don’t need it.”

For the first time, he lost control in front of everyone. The last four words burst from his mouth in a raw shout before he turned sharply and fled back to his room.

Su Li and Su Le had no idea what was going on. They had spent the day buying delicious treats and toys, and their father even bought their mother a pretty little dress. They were so looking forward to seeing her wear it. But now… something felt off, strange.

Gu Zi stepped forward and gently took Su Li and Su Le aside. “Go check on your brother. The grown-ups need to talk.”

Su Li nodded confidently. “Don’t worry, Mom. I’m grown up now. I’ll take care of my brother and sister. Lele, let’s go. Xu Sheng, do you want to come play with us?”

Before leaving, Su Li tugged Xu Sheng along. Xu Sheng hadn’t wanted to listen to all this adult drama either, but he worried about Su Bing and figured it was better to check on him.

Once the children were inside, the adults settled down. Despite the gravity of the conversation, each wore a calm, measured expression. The people most affected–Xu Ye, Su Mo–were gone now. Leaving the inheritance to the three children felt like the final chapter of this painful story.

Yu Fang had Xu Fan and Su Shen detail the inheritance clearly and arranged to formalize the transfer on Monday. Then, with a quiet hope, she made one last plea. “I don’t expect the children to forgive us. Nor do I ask for your understanding. But Su Shen, Gu Zi, Su Jing–I hope you won’t hold Xu Sheng accountable for everything.

“Xu Sheng is just a child. By blood, he is still the three children’s cousin. I hope Xu Sheng can still come here and play with his cousins. Let the adults’ grudges stay between us. I want the children to grow up like siblings, supporting one another. Can we try that?”

Su Shen said nothing, just looked at Gu Zi. Su Jing was silent as well, also turning to Gu Zi.

Feeling the weight of their gazes, Gu Zi replied, “What are you all looking at me for? You can decide for yourselves. But in my opinion, Xu Sheng is a good kid. I trust him with our children. Ultimately, it’s your decision–the Su family’s.”

Finally, Su Shen spoke. “Xu Sheng is our children’s cousin. That’s an undeniable fact. We have no objections.”

With the matter settled, the Xu family didn’t linger. They left with Xu Sheng in tow.

Gu Zi sighed and said, “This inheritance is no small sum. The fact that the Xu family is willing to hand it over to the three children shows some sincerity in their remorse. But the pain those kids endured isn’t something money can erase. Going forward, it’s up to the kids whether they want any relationship with the Xu family.”

The seeds the Xu family had sown were theirs alone to reap. Gu Zi could guide the children properly, but she couldn’t make them forgive.

That night, Gu Zi went to check on Su Bing. It was late, but he hadn’t yet fallen asleep. She asked softly, “Why aren’t you sleeping?”

He shook his head. “I dreamed of my birth mother. But Mom, this time it wasn’t her hitting me. Instead, she looked at me with guilt in her eyes–she didn’t say a word. Mom, should I forgive them?”

Gu Zi came closer, helping him lie down and stroking his hair gently. “If you can’t figure it out yet, don’t force it. Sleep now. I’m here with you. I won’t leave until you’re asleep.”
