Chapter 1616: Section 1617: Corridor
Delicious ingredients at Mukihara Bar? Asaz speculated that the ones Sebastian was interested in must surely be humans, and not just any humans, but powerful ones. And the most powerful person in the Mukihara Bar was undoubtedly the bar’s owner.
Not to mention that the owner of Mukihara Bar is an Official Wizard, even if he wasn’t, Asaz would not consider handling humans.
Asaz shook his head, ignoring Sebastian’s temptation, and quickly walked forward.
Soon, he arrived at the inn where he was temporarily staying.
It was an inn run by mortals. Although the owner was a mortal, to be able to run a business in Sky Mechanical City, they must have some Transcendent backing. Thus, the Transcendents who stayed there were relatively well-behaved.
However, being a mortal’s inn, the building materials were quite ordinary. Its defensive capabilities were, relatively speaking, very poor.
And it wasn’t very discreet either.
But Asaz didn’t care, as due to special reasons, he did not use gourmet cooking to make money, so his Magic Crystals were quite limited. It was already quite good that he did not wander outside the city, at least he had a place to rest.
Dragging his tired body, Asaz walked upstairs.
Just as he reached the floor where his room was located, Sebastian’s sneering voice entered his mind: “It seems you have a visitor today, doesn’t it?”
“A visitor?” Asaz hesitated for a moment, then turned to look towards the end of the corridor. The room at the very end on the fourth floor was where he was staying.
The door to the room appeared to be closed, and there was no sign of the “visitor” that Sebastian had referred to.
If they weren’t outside the door, then could it be… Asaz’s heart skipped a beat, yet his expression remained calm as he spoke with Sebastian in his mind: “You mean, there’s someone in my room?”
“My dear Milolis, you know I am not in your world. I do not know if there is someone in your room, but… the oil lamp by your bed that you lit with Demon’s Fire has now been extinguished.”
Sebastian’s words undoubtedly told Asaz, even if there weren’t any “visitors” in the room now, someone had definitely entered his room.
Asaz’s mood suddenly became tense. Who would enter his room? He had no acquaintances in Sky Mechanical City, or rather, he had no friends in the Wizards’ Realm.
Under these circumstances, those who had visited his room were definitely not friendly visitors.
They absolutely had other motives, and possibly malicious ones at that.
But who had he offended in Sky Mechanical City? Could it be, an opponent defeated by his hand?
Asaz hesitated for a moment, planning to go and check the situation. However, the next second, Sebastian spoke again: “The Demon’s Fire was extinguished less than a minute ago. If you go now, the visitor is probably still in the room.”
“Right, although that Demonic Fire is merely diluted energy, the one capable of extinguishing it surely won’t be weaker than the opponent you faced in the arena today.”
Meaning, if Asaz entered the room now, he would certainly face an opponent whose strength was at least on par with Trom.
The intruder broke into his room surely with ill intent. Asaz’s hands were still injured at the moment, and he had no Demonic Power to use. If he fought, he would undoubtedly be at a disadvantage.
With this in mind, Asaz did not hesitate to retreat and prepared to leave the place first.
But just as Asaz was about to turn and head downstairs, at the corner of the staircase, where there was not someone a moment ago, a young, slender girl heavily made up appeared: “Where are you planning to go, Asaz?”
Although the girl was smiling, her eyes were laced with a faint killing intent, sending chills down Asaz’s spine.
“My dear Milolis, if you do not wish to die, I advise you to run away immediately. The aura of this woman is quite unusual,” Sebastian’s voice came.
Sebastian had no reason to deceive him, Asaz immediately took his advice, without any hesitation, and ran in the opposite direction. On the other side of the fourth floor, there was a glass window. As long as he jumped through the window, there would be Magic Energy Eye patrols outside.
Asaz moved swiftly, but as he was about to reach the window, a shadow appeared eerily right in front of the glass, as if it had teleported there.
The person, was indeed the girl from before.
“I knew it.” The girl said with a sneer, “Seeing me, you didn’t even bother to confirm my identity before running. Are you feeling guilty for what you’ve done?”
With the girl’s words, an exceedingly terrifying aura began to emanate from her.
Asaz originally wanted to retreat and escape, but under this aura, he couldn’t move at all. His eyes filled with shock, he barely managed to utter with all his strength: “You… Are you a Wizard?”
Such terrifying pressure could only be possessed by Wizards!
The girl was none other than Greya. Her face was smiling, yet her eyes were cold.
“Who are you? I don’t know you at all, and I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Asaz said. It sounded like a desperate attempt to defend himself, but up to this point, he indeed had no clue what was happening.
Sebastian’s mocking laughter echoed in his mind: “Demons kill without needing reasons. Humans kill each other, and the so-called reasons are just excuses they find. Do you see the look in her eyes? She simply wants to kill you, no matter what you say, she will kill you.”
“I can help you~”
The tempting voice of Sebastian resonated in Asaz’s mind: “Just promise me to turn her into a gourmet dish, and I’ll lend you the strength to defeat her.”
“No,” Asaz immediately refused.
“She’s planning to kill you, and I’m merely helping you. Eating her is just an insignificant trifle.”
A hesitation flashed in Asaz’s eyes. Indeed, the girl before him clearly intended to kill him, and there would be no loss for him to agree to Sebastian’s proposition.
But should he really do it?
Asaz’s mind conjured up the image of his mentor Tubal, that tragic appearance, was the price paid through the collusion with Sebastian.
Although he had inherited the legacy of Tubal, he didn’t want to inherit Tubal’s obsession.
“If you really can’t make up your mind, then consider this,” Sebastian’s voice rang out again: “She is very powerful, and even with my strength, you might not be able to defeat her. But you could use Demonic Power to open a passage and send her directly before my True Body. You won’t have to worry about the rest.”
“What do you think? I’ve given this some thought just for you.”
Asaz fell silent for a moment: “You just want to turn her into an ingredient; the follow-up will still be left to me.”
“Of course, I am not a chef after all. Although I could eat raw flesh…” But after tasting Asaz’s delicacies, Sebastian did not want to return to the days of consuming blood and raw meat.
Sebastian: “What is your decision now?”
Asaz refused with his silence.
Sebastian laughed: “Alright, you’ll beg for my help when you’re about to die… But by that time, I won’t show you the mercy I am offering you now.”
Asaz’s consciousness returned from his mind to reality. Looking at the girl in front of him, his demeanor softened a bit more: “Even if you want me dead, at least tell me the reason, let me die with understanding.”
Greya looked coldly at Asaz: “Don’t you know? When you sacrifice a Demon, the Gourmet Sorcerer of the Southern Domain will become the target for the entire Wizards’ Realm.”
Asaz was stunned for a moment. He had originally thought her murderous intent was without cause, but now, he seemed to understand having heard her explanation.
Why did his mentor Tubal die? Was it not because he was hunted down by a group of wizards in the Northern Territory, sustaining severe injuries, and despite escaping to the Southern Domain, he still couldn’t escape the clutches of death?
Offering human wizards as sacrifices to Demons was the reason Tubal was hunted down.
Because Asaz knew this, he still had not thrown himself into Sebastian’s embrace.
“I indeed sacrificed a Demon, but I have not submitted to a Demon.”
Greya sneered: “You think I would believe that?”
Even though Asaz was sincere, with the Demonic Power serving as a disguise, even the most accurate validation techniques could fail.
“I’m telling the truth.”
“I only believe what I see with my own eyes. Your existence is a hidden danger.” With that, Greya didn’t wait to hear anymore from Asaz and took direct action. Whether what he said was true or not, it could be ascertained after capturing him and bringing him back.
Greya reached out, prepared to directly restrain Asaz and bring him back to the manor.
But just as her hand was about to touch Asaz, a demon’s head made of dark fire burst out from his chest.
Greya only felt a sharp pain in her hand, which then lost all sensation.
The scene before him even startled Asaz. He hadn’t thought or done anything at the time; it was Sebastian who took the initiative to release the Demon’s Fire from his body.
Moreover, the magnitude of that Demon’s Fire was beyond any Asaz had ever controlled.
This could very well be Sebastian’s True Body’s real strength!
Greya had not expected that the Demon sacrificed by Asaz would actively protect its sacrificer, something she had never heard of before. Therefore, she was caught off guard and exposed a weakness.
The moment the eerie black fire invaded her hand, it began to spread wildly, bringing a numbing weakness from her arm.
Greya immediately perceived that this black fire intended to turn her into a living ingredient!
Anger flashed across Greya’s face: After all this, he still dares say he hasn’t danced with a Demon?
She didn’t even plan to capture Asaz anymore but was ready to just kill him.
But first, Greya had to extinguish the black fire on herself.
Greya started looking for ways to dispel the black fire on her body, but such Demon’s Fire was like Tibial Maggots, extremely difficult to get rid of.
And at this moment, Asaz heard Sebastian’s voice: “Aren’t you running yet?”
Without hesitation, Asaz turned and fled. Greya, even if she saw it, couldn’t chase him with the Demon’s Fire on her, and she could only watch helplessly as Asaz’s figure grew more distant, running towards the direction of the stairwell.
Just as Asaz was about to make his escape, a “creak” of a door opening suddenly entered everyone’s ears.
After the sound of the door, Asaz suddenly realized that the corridor in front of him seemed to wobble unrealistically. In his urgency, Asaz didn’t care and continued to run downstairs.
But after running down just one flight and about to head to the third floor, he found that what he saw in front of him was not the third floor at all–it was still the fourth floor?!
He clearly ran down a level, yet why was he still on the fourth floor? Could this be an illusion?
Asaz looked around. This was indeed the fourth-floor corridor, with everything unchanged. The girl from before was still entangled with the Demon’s Fire at the other end of the corridor.
The only difference was that the door to his temporary room was now open.
A figure was emerging from the open door.
