Chapter 360: Chapter 127: Yuehuan Arrives (Part 1)_2
Yueyao nodded at Qiao Lan.
Qiao Lan glanced at Yuehuan and then left.
Yuehuan had already prepared a lot mentally for today’s meeting, but faced with Yueyao’s indifferent demeanor, she dropped her mental preparation and said, “Sister, you know I’m not really Yuehuan, so I won’t beat around the bush. Sister, I’m not from this dynasty, I have traveled here from the future.”
Yueyao was somewhat surprised and exclaimed, “The future?” She was confused about the concept of traveling to this dynasty from the future.
Yuehuan nodded and said, “Yes, I have traveled here from the future. In my original world, everyone is equal, technology is advanced, and more importantly, that world practices monogamy.”
Yueyao looked at Yuehuan with astonishment, not understanding the concept of monogamy.
Thinking Yueyao did not believe her, Yuehuan earnestly said, “I’m not lying to you. In that world, monogamy is protected by law. If you dare to remarry, it’s illegal, and you’ll go to jail.”
Yueyao’s expression was quite peculiar, her voice odd as she said, “Here, unless the primary wife is dead, it’s also impossible to remarry.” In the Great Yuan Dynasty, no man would marry two wives; any man had only one wife. As for equal wives, in reality, that was just a noble concubine, not a true wife.
Yuehuan smiled and said, “Sister, you don’t understand what I mean. When I speak of monogamy, I mean there are only the husband and wife, no concubines at all in our place. Everyone must follow monogamy, or it’s considered breaking the law.” Of course, she didn’t mention anything about mistresses.
Yueyao naturally noticed the loopholes in Yuehuan’s words and said, “Monogamy is certainly good, but a marriage must be sincere and supportive. If the sincerity is lacking, even with legal constraints, what good is it? Men of power can follow the law and not remarry, but they can still keep mistresses outside. The difference is just whether it is inside or outside the house.” Yueyao didn’t think monogamy was the ideal marriage; heartfelt vows spoken at one time can fade, and concubines might still be brought into the home in succession, making the vows and the laws useless.
Yuehuan’s eyes widened, amazed at how perceptive her sister was. Modern times did practice monogamy, but affairs outside of marriage were very common.
Yueyao said indifferently, “What does this have to do with you coming to see me?” Yueyao wasn’t very interested in monogamy, because it had nothing to do with what Yuehuan wanted to discuss.
Yuehuan choked up, as what she said did not really relate to her reason for visiting Yueyao. Her initial intention was to make Yueyao envy her world, then segue into discussing an alliance. Unfortunately, Yueyao did not play along with her words.
Knowing continuing on this line would get her nowhere and Yueyao would keep evading, Yuehuan straightforwardly said, “Sister, I want to join forces with you. Madam is truly greedy beyond bounds, and I can’t let her manipulate things any longer.”
Yueyao snorted with laughter, as if Yuehuan had said something hilarious, and asked, “Join forces? What could you possibly offer to join forces with me? You can barely protect yourself, yet you want to ally with me?”
Yuehuan didn’t understand what Yueyao meant by her being unable to protect herself.
Yueyao chuckled lightly, “You’re too naive. Do you think Maternal Aunt Su hasn’t noticed your oddness? The real Yuehuan wasn’t as clever as you. A person with amnesia doesn’t become a prodigy overnight. Fourth Miss has been by Maternal Aunt Su’s side since her birth. As her real mother, do you think she wouldn’t notice your oddness? She must have discovered that you’re occupying her daughter’s body. Even if she hasn’t confirmed it one hundred percent, she must have begun to suspect, otherwise she wouldn’t have sent Yuehuan to the mountains.”
Yuehuan turned pale, “That’s not possible; Maternal Auntie loves me.”
Yueyao sneered, “If she hadn’t already confirmed that you are an impostor, how could she have let you leak the matter about the lipstick? You have been in the Lian family for more than a year now; you should know Lady Mo’s temperament. That woman is greedy and malicious. As Lady Mo’s right hand, how could Maternal Aunt Su not know the potential troubles of your actions? Maternal Aunt Su is very calculative; she didn’t kill you because you’re still useful. Otherwise do you think you would be standing in front of me able to speak?”
Yuehuan shook her head desperately, “That’s not possible.”
Yueyao chuckled lightly, “You probably don’t know, but in Lian Mansion’s inner courtyards over the past ten years, four Maternal Aunties died, not to mention the miscarried children; there were five who died not long after birth, and these incidents were all Maternal Aunt Su’s doing.” Yueyao was not slandering Maternal Aunt Su, as she truly was Lady Mo’s sharp knife; that’s precisely why she was so favored by Lady Mo.
Yuehuan’s face turned utterly pale, “Impossible, I don’t believe it, I don’t believe it.” The Maternal Auntie who seemed so gentle and kind was in fact a merciless demon? She couldn’t believe it; she thought it was simply slander by Yueyao. But recalling what Maternal Auntie had told her about the madam’s actions, a chill of desolation swept through her. Even if Maternal Auntie wasn’t the mastermind, she was definitely an accomplice.
While outwardly Yuehuan expressed disbelief in Yueyao’s words, inwardly she had already started to sense a significant change in Maternal Aunt Su’s attitude towards her. For instance, the lipstick incident, where she had earned a lot of money yet hadn’t taken any for herself–she had many complaints, but Maternal Aunt Su remained silent, instead urging her to develop new products as soon as possible. Additionally, this trip to the mountains also revealed many peculiarities.
Yueyao inwardly nodded, glad to see Yuehuan hadn’t been completely swayed by Maternal Aunt Su: “I believe you’ve noticed the inconsistency in Maternal Aunt Su’s attitude towards you. Think it over well! If you don’t figure it out, there’s only a path of death waiting for you.”
After a long while, Yuehuan looked up at Yueyao and said, “Sister, in your past life, were you also very miserable? Sister, please tell me.”
Yueyao said indifferently, “My matters don’t need to be shared with you.”
