Chapter 441: Chapter 301: Changsheng Takes Delight in Others’ Misfortune
Curiosity killed the cat!
Gu Changsheng was desperate to know what kind of trouble Zhou Mu, that evildoer, had brewed up this time!
Facing his wife’s eager gaze and before she even had a chance to speak, Si Xi had already admitted defeat, spilling every single detail of his experiences at Prince Mu’s Mansion without leaving anything out.
Gu Changsheng was dumbstruck, his face cycling through a kaleidoscope of expressions, a spectacle of sheer brilliance.
“Xiao Si Xi, you’re amazing! I’m impressed!” When Si Xi mentioned his resolute response to Zhou Mu, Gu Changsheng gave him a sincere thumbs-up, “Awesome! You’ve got the nerve to defy your own master; in all the land, there’s probably no one else with a gut bigger than yours!”
“Wasn’t it you, Lady Changsheng, who told me to smooth things over?” Si Xi said, his face flushed with shame as he lowered his head.
Upon hearing this, Gu Changsheng glared at him, “Sure, I told you to smooth things over, but is this how you do it? You went completely overboard, might as well have slapped your master dead on the beach. The evildoer must be fuming inside, I don’t even want to think about it!”
I’m not taking the blame for this!
Smoothing things over isn’t supposed to be done this way. I didn’t teach such an unreliable apprentice!
Hearing this, Si Xi’s head drooped so low it nearly reached his chest, as he stuttered, “Thinking back on it now, the master’s face did seem rather unpleasant at that moment…”
Gu Changsheng sneered upon hearing this, “Pleasant? His face pleasant? That would be strange indeed!”
He summoned you with such a big fuss, only to be mercilessly rejected after asking just one question. Anyone would look unpleasant if put in this situation!
Gu Changsheng felt it was actually quite pitiable for Zhou Mu to have such a group of subordinates.
But then again, from another perspective, considering Zhou Mu’s cold and aloof nature, having subordinates like Yuan Bao and Si Xi prevented his life from being too dull.
They complemented each other, didn’t they? Ha!
Chin propped on her hand, Gu Changsheng narrowed her eyes as she thought about Si Xi’s retelling, her eyes blinking rapidly as her mind whirled.
Something wasn’t right. There must have been a mistake. Why on earth would Zhou Mu ask such a question?
How did he get along with the little bitch from the Huo Family, and what was her reaction?
Gu Changsheng scratched her chin in confusion, asking herself, “Should I have some kind of reaction?”
What the hell, was it not enough for her to play the silently suffering tragic supporting character in his grand show? Did she also have to have some sort of reaction?
Did the evildoer expect her to cry, to make a scene, even to threaten suicide, stirring up a storm to ensure everyone in the city knew?
Gu Changsheng violently shook her head, “Hell no, I’m not doing something that degrading!”
Throughout her two lifetimes, the blunt and inexperienced Gu Changsheng admitted that she was utterly baffled.
Si Xi stood timidly to the side, watching his lady in confusion as she scratched her ears and cheeks, pacing in circles with a clueless look on her face.
The affairs of the masters were too complex for a simple-minded servant like him to decipher!
“Ah! Si Xi, you’re finally back. I was really worried that His Highness Prince Mu would detain you and not let you return; then I would have been busy again!” Dong Lei came running with a pile of clean clothes and brightened upon seeing Si Xi, hurriedly said, “Don’t just stand there; the mansion is busy as a beehive. You don’t have time to daydream. Come on, I’ve made Lotus Seed and Almond Porridge to nourish the lady’s body. Hurry and help me bring it to her.”
Si Xi hurried after Dong Lei towards the kitchen courtyard, not daring to dawdle upon hearing the command.
With everyone gone and only the resident doctors hiding away to enjoy the spectacle, Gu Changsheng was left racking her brains without coming to any conclusion, glaring at them in annoyance.
Seeing Changsheng’s sharp gaze sweeping over them, everyone averted their eyes, pretending to be busy to avoid her scrutiny.
“Hmph!” Gu Changsheng huffed, her face clouded with frustration.
Damn it, the counter-intelligence had been a success, but somehow Zhou Mu had managed to confuse her!
What the hell? This made no sense at all!
While Gu Changsheng was entangled in confusion, Ning Er, lurking in the shadows, clutched a piece of paper, her face etched with deep bitterness.
Her entanglement was even greater than Lady Changsheng’s!
The reason was simple. She had just received a message from Lord Yuan Bao. Following Si Xi’s summons, she too had been honorably called to appear…
Turning her back to the others, Ning Er appeared before Gu Changsheng with a pale countenance.
Gu Changsheng’s eyes narrowed upon seeing Ning Er, a sudden uneasy premonition bubbling within her.
“My lady, the master sent a note, summoning his subordinate to return…” Ning Er reported truthfully, her head lowered.
Gu Changsheng’s expression darkened immediately.
Here we go again!
She had guessed it right, goddammit!
“Go, go, go! Let him show off his Great Summoning Technique all he wants, whether he has a reason or not, flaunting his charisma. He’s sure enjoying himself!” Gu Changsheng waved her hand disdainfully.
Whatever! Let the evildoer do what he wants. If she doesn’t see it, it won’t bother her!
She might have seemed indifferent and detached, but upon hearing this, Ning Er’s face grew even uglier. She stuttered as she began to speak, “My lord, if he asks me about this, how should I respond?”
Gu Changsheng rolled her eyes upon hearing this, her voice dripping with unconcern, “Your mouth is your own, isn’t it your right to respond as you wish? Can I speak for you, or can I sew your mouth shut?”
Actually, sewing someone’s mouth shut… that was more within the realm of possibility for her–it could be easily done with some catgut sutures and a suture needle!
Each to their own specialty, that was a skill she was particularly good at!
Upon hearing this, Ning Er’s mouth twitched, “My lady, can’t you at least give your subordinate a bit of guidance?”
Gu Changsheng responded with another roll of her eyes and retorted with pursed lips, “No guidance! I’m not your nanny who has to plan everything for you!”
Speaking of which, Gu Changsheng added, “Besides, that evildoer is a person with deep and inscrutable thoughts. Only a ghost knows what kind of trouble he cooks up all day. I don’t know what he’s summoning you back for, how can I advise you?”
“Plans can’t keep up with changes, Ning Er, you’d better be smart. If you betray me, don’t bother coming back!”
Hearing this, Ning Er’s face immediately turned pitch black, and with a disheartened voice, she called out, “My lord…”
This isn’t the time to enjoy the spectacle!
After all, she had faithfully protected her lord for so long, occasionally being pulled out for a bit of training. Even if she hadn’t made any significant achievements, she had certainly put in a lot of hard work. How could her lord be so heartless as to cast her aside… whimper!
Seeing Ning Er looking so pitiful, Gu Changsheng felt a genuine surge of sympathy and offered a suggestion, “Ning Er, if you have the guts, you could just imitate Xiao Si Xi’s responses. That’s called remaining unflustered amidst chaos. No matter what question the evildoer comes up with, you’ll be able to block it. It’s foolproof!”
“My lord!” Ning Er gasped upon hearing this, at a loss for words, “My lord, it’s one thing not to guide your subordinates, but this is just setting me up to fail!”
If she dared to mimic Si Xi’s methods and block her master again, Ning Er was sure that her fate would not be as harmonious as Si Xi’s.
It would be incredibly tragic!
Gu Changsheng just shrugged noncommittally upon hearing this, “Anyway, I’ve already given you advice. Use it or not, please forgive me for being unable to help further!”
Having said her piece, Gu Changsheng then settled comfortably on a stone stool, eyebrows raised, awaiting Si Xi to serve her the lotus seed and almond porridge.
With all the mental and physical exertion, she urgently needed to replenish her energy!
That way, she would have the strength to deal with the evildoer’s endless problems!
Ning Er glanced dejectedly at her own master, then resigned herself to heading outside the mansion, following in Si Xi’s footsteps to report back to her own master.
Gu Changsheng watched her retreating figure with a gleeful smile.
She didn’t believe that Ning Er, this gloomy sister, would betray her!
So, it seemed almost certain that the evildoer was bound to be thwarted again!
Gu Changsheng had quite a bit of confidence in her own charismatic influence; those who stayed by her side always got along well with her.
Therefore, she was genuinely unworried, leisurely awaiting Ning Er’s return in the spirit of watching an entertaining show.
As evening approached, Ning Er finally came back.
The moment Gu Changsheng learned of her arrival, she immediately hauled Ning Er, who was hiding in the shadows, out into the open for all to see.
“Tsk tsk, Ning Er, your ears look much worse than Xiao Si Xi’s – look how red they are, almost like braised pig’s ears!” Gu Changsheng circled Ning Er and exclaimed in amazement.
Ning Er, embarrassed, raised her hands to cover her ears, not knowing what to do.
At this point, Gu Changsheng was no longer interested in whatever Zhou Mu had asked. It was all irrelevant, puzzling matters, not worth spending her brain cells on. She was more interested in the encounters of those summoned from her side.
“That must be Er Que’s doing, right? Ning Er, how did you handle it? What did you do to make Yuan Bao so irritable?” Gu Changsheng asked, propping her chin and raising her eyebrows inquiringly.
Pinching someone’s ears–that demeaning act–was definitely not something the evildoer Zhou Mu would do. Only Yuan Bao would regard such a belittling act as something ordinary!
Ning Er nodded first, then hesitated before replying, “I just followed Eunuch Si Xi’s method and pulled another stunt…”
Gu Changsheng was instantly horrified upon hearing this!
She looked at Ning Er as if she were looking at a monster, stuttering, “Ning Er, that’s quite daring of you! You actually went through with it!”
Ning Er looked back at her with a pale face and replied meekly, “Didn’t you say, my lady, that such an approach was foolproof?”
At that, Gu Changsheng was rendered speechless.
Alright, this was her fault!
She had unknowingly caused trouble for the evildoer again!
The feeling was truly, bitter and thrilling!
Thinking of how Zhou Mu must have felt choked up by Ning Er’s move again, Gu Changsheng couldn’t help but giggle with her hand over her mouth.
“Don’t celebrate too soon, my lord, he’s the kind of person who wouldn’t stop until he gets his way, he won’t let it go easily!”
