Chapter 38: Mother Jiang is a Drama Queen

Gu Xiang answered, “He should be busy.”

“‘Should’?” Hearing this, Mother Jiang frowned and looked at Gu Xiang. Then, she humphed. “It can’t be that you don’t even have any idea of what your husband is busy with, huh?”

Gu Xiang was stunned. She really had no idea. She had not contacted Jiang Chi in the past two days and Jiang Chi had not contacted her either.

Isn’t it normal for two, who have no relationship foundation, to not contact each other when they’re both busy?

Gu Xiang said, “He has a lot of things to do and I don’t want to disturb him.”

“How is that a disturbance?” Mother Jiang was a little unhappy. “Since you are married to him, you should know what he is doing. If he doesn’t come home, you should call him. If a couple doesn’t contact each other and care for one another, and only care about work, how will you have children in the future? Grandpa is looking forward to the two of you getting together. We didn’t let you marry into our family for you to do nothing all day.”

Jiang Chi’s mother was top-notch beautiful when she was young. Even now, when she talked or even when she complained, she was gentle and she didn’t make one angry. Gu Xiang felt that she seemed to be rather dissatisfied with her. And when she heard that Mother Jiang wanted her to give birth to Jiang Chi’s child, she felt a headache coming on.

Back then, she had only been asked to marry him and no one said anything about having a child! If she really had to give birth to Jiang Chi’s child, she would really lose out.

Gu Xiang thought about it in her heart, but she noticed that Mother Jiang was staring at her. She said in a tone like she was expecting better from Gu Xiang, “What are you still doing sitting around? Give him a call! Make him come back now.”

Gu Xiang was speechless. She could only pick up the phone and make the call.

She put it on loudspeaker and the call went through. “What’s the matter?”

He did not seem to be very happy to receive a call from Gu Xiang. It seemed like he was still angry about the matter from the other day. Gu Xiang did not want to give him a call either.

But his mother was here. She had no choice.

She said, “I’m at home now and your mother is also here. She wanted me to ask when you will be back.”

“I’m not free,” Jiang Chi said. “Have a meal with her and chat with her. That’s it. I’m busy, I’ve got to go.”

He seemed really cold!

Jiang Chi was about to hang up, but he heard Mother Jiang on the opposite end suddenly cough into a handkerchief.

Hearing that, Jiang Chi frowned. “Mom, are you ill?”

Mother Jiang answered, “I’m fine, no big issue. It’s nothing serious. Get on with your work, don’t care about me. Anyway, you are busy. You don’t have to show concern for an old lady like me.”

She sounded like she was complaining and also like she was trying to seek sympathy.

Hearing this, Jiang Chi felt really frustrated. “Fine, I’ll come and visit you later.”

His mother had come back for quite a few days and he never came to visit her. Now that she was sick, he was still rather worried.

Hearing that he was coming, Gu Xiang hung up. The moment she hung up, Mother Jiang stopped coughing.

So… she was acting just now?

Gu Xiang had almost believed that she was really sick. Mother Jiang noticed that Gu Xiang was staring at her.

The self-conscious Mother Jiang scowled immediately and said, “Why are you staring at me? Look at your silly self, do you think you can call him back in the way you just did? Since you are married to Jiang Chi, think more from his perspective.”

Gu Xiang did not know what to say.

The helper poured her a cup of tea. “Madam.”

“Thank you.” Gu Xiang picked up the tea and took two sips to conceal how awkward she felt.

But she heard Mother Jiang ask, “You haven’t slept with Jiang Chi, huh?”
