Chapter 824: Chapter 694: The Dissipation of Ice and Snow
Catalina ran back to the ice field in a mad rush, barely stopping herself from plunging into the bottomless abyss.
Although she had already taken several steps, ice bloomed under her feet, connecting with the mountain peaks.
She probably wanted to run straight over.
But suddenly, a trail of golden light flew from behind, quickly binding her waist and pulling her back to the top of the peak from mid-air.
“The Sacred Tree!”
Catalina fell heavily to the ground, but still struggled towards the direction of the Floating Island, shouting.
Above the vast ice field, the once concealed Floating Island had revealed itself, but its land had suddenly split into several pieces.
It was like a world falling apart; chunks of snow and ice cascaded down.
They disappeared silently into the expanse of the ice field below in the howling blizzard.
The Holy Land of Elves was vanishing, piece by piece.
“No! Don’t!”
Catalina shouted hoarsely, trying to run again, but the rope around her waist tightly shackled her movements.
The blizzard ahead nearly obscured all visibility, ruthlessly ravaging everything above the ice field.
She stared fixedly at the collapsing icy island, watching the crystalline giant tree amid the snowstorm as if afraid it would vanish if she blinked.
Catalina tried to save something.
However, the next moment.
Amidst the fragments of the earth and Snow Ridge.
The enormous Sacred Tree of the Elves instantly shattered into countless white points of light, sparkling brilliantly under the moonlight as they drifted and fell towards the ground below, only to dissolve in the blustering snow before even reaching the ground.
Witnessing this, Catalina screamed in despair, her tears scattering with the whistling snowstorm.
She flailed wildly, trying over and over to rush into the air, even though that place had already utterly collapsed and dissipated.
Only the aimless, boisterous blizzard remained on the ice field, and the light particles scattered far and wide until they disappeared without a trace.
The light and faith of the Sacred Tree of the Elves had been extinguished from the world.
“The Sacred Tree! Ah–”
Catalina collapsed, screaming, clutching her head.
She looked desperately at the barren ice field, eager to do something, yet not knowing what could still be done.
After all hope was lost, it seemed only hysterical cries remained.
Catalina sat on the ground in a daze, allowing the snowstorm to lash against her body and face, gazing blankly at the ice field as if she had turned into a statue of ice.
Several individuals slowly followed behind her.
Xu Shuo held the rope of Light Magic in his hand, the end tied around the Ice and Snow Elf, the Aura of Light constantly scorching her body, but she felt nothing.
Not until he approached her.
It was then Catalina seemed to snap out of it.
She turned around abruptly, her cold white pupils glaring at the young man, filled with anger and hate.
“It was you!”
Catalina charged at him fiercely, the Elven Arrow materializing in her hand and stabbing at the young man with incredible speed!
Xu Shuo had already retracted the rope, his Magical Power regathering in his hands, his palm aglow as he directly grabbed the sharp arrowhead.
With a slight exertion of strength, the Elven Arrow snapped.
Xu Shuo said calmly, “Calm down first before you talk. Clearly, this isn’t my fault. We had already left far behind; how could I have done this?”
“It was you!”
Catalina, regardless of reason, stared at him furiously and launched another attack.
But her attack was now without any technique, more like movements swung out of instinct amidst emotional turmoil.
Xu Shuo effortlessly sidestepped her assault and grabbed her wrist, quickly twisting her arm behind her and restraining her movements.
The Ice and Snow Elf’s eyes were ice-cold, and a chilling Extreme Frost spread from her, carrying a hysterical, mad, and paranoid tint.
Seeing this, Xu Shuo frowned slightly.
Then, with a forceful karate chop to her neck, the spreading Extreme Frost abruptly stopped. Catalina’s eyes lost focus for a moment, then she fainted.
Peace returned to the peak.
The ice plains in the distance had also quieted down.
The Floating Island had dissipated and was out of sight, with only the relentless blizzard continuing to howl day and night.
Zuo Fang sighed: “We’ve brought another one. I said it would be hard for her to calm down and trust us. You’ve destroyed her faith, how can you expect her to help us now?”
Xu Shuo, on the other hand, was calm: “Let’s take her back and try. Right now, she’s just too agitated.”
Zuo Fang looked at him somewhat helplessly.
Then he walked up to the edge of the cliff, squinting as he gazed into the boundless ice plains.
“What in the world is this place?”
Zuo Fang muttered, “After the Floating Island fell just now, it’s as if everything vanished. This ice plain is like a ravenous beast, devouring anything that falls into it.”
Suddenly, the Duke of Silver, who was next to him, spoke up, “Perhaps it’s the edge of the world. This continent is surrounded by mountain ranges on the east, south, and north, while the west is an uncharted sea no one has ever set foot in. Nobody knows what lies beyond this continent, what the edge of the world looks like.”
“But isn’t the world round?” Zuo Fang paused.
“The world is round only in your eyes,” said the Duke of Silver with an enigmatic look.
“…Could it really be square?”
Although the Script Space had countless worlds of all sizes.
Zuo Fang still felt that a square world was odd–after all, in his eyes, the world should be spherical.
A world that isn’t spherical but square?
Zuo Fang: Feels like my strange knowledge has increased.
…
The invasion of the Holy Land of Elves finally came to an end.
The three had no desire to stay at this place, continuously watching the never-ending blizzard, nor were they interested in researching whether this world had an end or not.
So after the trip, they directly took the two elven prisoners and returned to the outskirts of the Far North Mountain Range.
The journey back to the city went much smoother, without any incidents happening along the way, not even encountering any stir from the Magical Beast Army.
However, they didn’t rush back to the Silver City-State.
Instead, they stopped at the military camp at the foot of Aige Peak.
Then the three of them sat around a campfire, eating and watching the two elves lying unconscious beside them, one mixed-blood, the other pure-blood.
“That girl was frozen pretty badly, I think she might have a hard time holding on,” Zuo Fang said, sipping on his warm Beast Milk Wine.
The person he referred to was Sola. Although she was still breathing when they dug her out, her breath had been barely perceptible all the way, and until now, there was no sign of awakening.
Upon hearing this, Xu Shuo glanced at the girl.
The mark of Light Magic inside her was still active.
So, Xu Shuo said calmly, “She’s a mixed-blood from the Ice and Snow Elf Clan. And you actually think she could freeze to death.”
Zuo Fang: “…”
He turned, questioning, towards the Duke of Silver.
The Duke of Silver said coldly as well, “No, the cold climate is comfortable for the Ice and Snow Elves; otherwise, they wouldn’t have inhabited such extreme environments.”
Zuo Fang, looking at the Duke’s plush greatcoat: “Then why are you dressed so heavily?”
“My lineage is dormant, of course I’ll feel cold.”
“Then what makes you think a mixed-blood wouldn’t freeze to death?”
“Fine, they do.”
“…”
The Duke of Silver had no interest in bickering with him. Faced with such a tedious challenge, he readily admitted to his statement.
Zuo Fang could only swallow his words back.
The three continued to surround the fire, eating their late-night snack, when suddenly, Catalina, who was knocked unconscious later, was the first to awake.
“The Sacred Tree!”
That was her first sentence.
The Ice and Snow Elf’s eyes still held terrifying and sorrowful images that hadn’t yet faded away, and before she even realized her current situation, tears had already started to fall.
