Chapter 39: The Room Prepared For Me

I stared at Ansir in surprise for a while, wondering if I’d heard him wrong.

So, this place was specially prepared for me?

Ansir actually had such good intentions?

However, Ansir misunderstood that I didn’t hear him clearly and explained again, “From now on, you’re my follower. You live in my private villa. You can eat and go to school with me, but you have to work for me. No matter where you are in the future, you can only listen to my orders. Do you understand?”

Stunned, I pointed to the tip of my nose. “Me? Follower?”

Ansir raised an eyebrow. “Why? Are you unwilling to? Humans are all waiting in line for this opportunity.”

I grimaced. “So I just went from being your plaything to being your sidekick?”

“Playthings are accessories without dignity. My sidekicks are only people who work for me, and they can even live a stable life in school under my protection. For you, this is a deal that will definitely cost you nothing,” Ansir analyzed rationally.

I looked into Ansir’s eyes with deep hesitation. What was this guy planning?

Although the fact that he was able to prepare such a room for me surprised and touched me.

This guy had too many bad deeds. If I became his follower, who knew what ridiculous things would happen next?

And at that moment, Noble’s words suddenly echoed in my head.

He’d warned me to stay away from vampires. That’s what my mother had been… he hadn’t finished his sentence, but it had planted a thorn in my heart.

I composed myself and turned down Ansir’s offer. “Thank you for the offer, but I don’t want to accept it.”

Ansir’s brows furrowed slightly. Although he didn’t say anything, his gloomy expression betrayed his emotions.

But soon, Ansir’s expression returned to normal. He smiled. “You said you don’t want to accept it, but do you have a better place to go besides here?”

His words hit my sore spot precisely.

I had to admit that after my grandfather’s death, there was no other way for me to retreat, no other place to go except that house.

However, that family never seemed to have any intention of accepting me. This time, they purposely opened the skylight and soaked my mattress. I wondered what would happen next time.

Ansir glanced at me and saw that I looked as if I had been told what was on my mind. He walked past me and slowly walked into the room. He stopped in front of the window and turned back to me. “The scenery outside the window of this room should be considered very good for you humans, right? From the skylight of your attic, can there be such a scenery?”

I walked over and looked out the window.

Large patches of grass glistened in the sunlight. The woods in the distance were dense and verdant. A small river flowed past the edge of the woods. In the sunlight, you could see the sparkling water and wild birds playing.

It was indeed beautiful, and that was one of the reasons I was stunned when I walked into the room earlier.

The scenery outside the window was like a painting of Monet, serene, elegant, and colorful.

I was silent for a moment before answering Ansir’s question with great difficulty, “No.”

But Ansir wasn’t about to end the conversation. “Yes,” he continued. “Not only can’t you see anything like this in your little attic, but there’s also a cold bed, a soaked cotton blanket, and a desk washed away by the rain. That’s all.”

Instinctively I wanted to retort, but something seemed to catch in my throat.

Ansir turned his head and looked at me with a sharp gaze. “You don’t need others to tell you what kind of life you have in that family. You know very well that you won’t receive any respect there.” He paused for a moment and narrowed his eyes slightly. A meaningful smile flashed in his eyes. “They might not treat you as well as I treat you.”

Ansir had been trying to get me to make a choice. He’d broken through my inner defenses one after another, like a demon whispering in my ear, trying to lure me into making a choice. By the time he’d finished, I was almost certain I had nowhere else to go.

Ansir was right. I couldn’t even argue with that. At the same time, I felt sorry for myself.

Ansir saw the change in my expression and knew that my heart had accepted the truth. A smile appeared on his lips, like a superior announcing the final outcome. “Cecily, you have no better choice than me.”

I knew in my heart that he was right.

“I agree with you,” I said suddenly.

“…” Ansir nodded in satisfaction at me finally ‘thinking it through’. “Looks like you’re not a fool who doesn’t know how to make a choice.”

However, my agreement wasn’t without conditions. After thinking for a moment, I said to him, “But there is one thing that I hope you can promise.”

Ansir raised an eyebrow and said noncommittally, “Tell me about it. There’s nothing I can’t do.”

After obtaining Ansir’s permission, I continued, “I hope President Ansir won’t do anything excessive to me…”
