Chapter 376: Chapter 375 Inferior Products Are Just Inferior Products
Ya Ling was riding Lu Mian’s motorcycle, in pursuit of Gu Jingyi, who had been picked up by an unfamiliar van.
The motorcycle had been confiscated from Lu Mian because they all thought it was too dangerous and ostentatious for him while he was still in school.
And now, Ya Ling was making good use of it.
She had arrived at the hotel just in time to see Gu Jingyi secretly jumping out a window and getting into a van that came to pick her up.
Without a second thought, she floored the gas pedal and gave chase.
But as she was chasing, she realized that she had picked up a tail. She couldn’t concern herself with that, however, because she had promised to get even on behalf of Lu Mian. She couldn’t let the person who framed her “Gege” get away.
“Young Master Ye, who exactly are you chasing?” Mo Si clung to the handgrip, swaying left and right with the car, and asked in a pitiable voice.
“Ah… Of course, it’s Gu Jingyi! Finally caught her accomplice!”
Ye Jinwen said this, still mindful of the task at hand, and noticing the motorcycle woman’s target, he unilaterally decided to cooperate with her.
He sharply turned the steering wheel, choosing a different path to intercept Gu Jingyi’s van.
“How’s that? Xiaosi? Do I have a bit of a car god’s style?” Ye Jinwen held the steering wheel, even managing to joke about it.
Mo Si clung tightly to the handle, covering her little heart in disdain, “Young Master Ye, I don’t know about car god skills. But you’re far from that racing driver in Hong City.”
“I dare not, dare not, how could I dare to compare myself with that great god.” Ye Jinwen felt inferior.
Inside the van.
Since Gu Jingyi got into the passenger seat, she had felt nothing but tension, as though she was fearing something.
That anxiety only heightened when she realized they were being chased.
Until, from the last row of the van, a cold and ruthless voice spoke up, causing her to shudder and cling to herself.
“You’ve been exposed.”
The voice was distorted through a voice changer, yet the emotion behind it was still palpable. Gu Jingyi trembled as she glanced back, but whoever was there was completely enveloped in darkness, and she could see nothing.
“Sir, I…”
“You’ve failed your mission.”
“Sir, it wasn’t on purpose. I did everything I could. It was Lu Mian, she…”
“You deserve to die.” His tone was terse.
Gu Jingyi was utterly panicked, “Sir, please no! I was wrong, I will go back for more training, I’ll make up for it with achievements.”
But the man concealed in the shadows didn’t give her a chance, signaling the driver with a glance through the rearview mirror.
The driver understood and his fingers moved slightly.
Gu Jingyi’s seatbelt came undone, and at the same moment, her heart lurched, and she looked back blankly.
At first, she didn’t realize what they were going to do, not until the moment came when they were taking a sharp turn and the passenger door suddenly opened.
As her body was flung out, there was no time to even scream for help before she realized what was happening.
She had been abandoned.
Like disposing of trash.
The van’s door closed again, and quiet was restored.
A cold, emotionless voice wafted out.
“Defective goods are just that, defective goods.”
Ye Jinwen was very close to the van when something that was thrown out of it caught him by surprise.
Due to the high speed, he couldn’t brake in time, instead making a quick swerve to avoid it.
But he avoided it the first time only to be caught off-guard by the sight of the motorcycle woman coming from another junction.
Damn it!
If they collided, she’d be either dead or severely injured!
Almost reflexively, Ye Jinwen, a second before impact, turned the steering wheel all the way to the left.
“Young Master Ye!” Mo Si cried out in terror, her eyes shut tight.
Crash!
Due to the momentum, his car unsurprisingly flipped onto its side.
In order not to crash into the motorcycle woman, he chose to injure himself.
Mo Si clung desperately to the handgrip, feeling the world spin around her, and as she was losing consciousness, she had only two thoughts.
If it had been that taxi driver instead, he definitely wouldn’t have let the car flip over.
His second thought was…
He still had a big secret that he hadn’t had the chance to tell Qimo yet!
With an apologetic glance at Mo Si through the shattered glass, Ye Jinwen looked out. His vision blurred with blood, he thought he saw a tall, striking figure. As the figure removed her helmet, her wavy hair cascaded down beautifully.
His consciousness began to blur.
Before closing his eyes, he heard only one sound: a shocked and astonished female voice.
“Ye Jinwen?!”
It felt oddly familiar. Smiling, he slowly closed his eyes.
Ya Ling had never imagined that such an accident would happen at this moment, nor that she would once again get entangled with Ye Jinwen.
She quickly stopped her motorcycle, took off the helmet without bothering to conceal her identity, and walked past Gu Jingyi, who lay in a pool of blood on the ground, straight to Ye Jinwen.
“Hey!” Her hand, in a black leather glove, trembled slightly.
“Wake up!”
She wasn’t ignorant of his actions just now. All he had to do was charge ahead, just knock her away to solve the problem, yet he turned the steering wheel instead.
Looking at the man in the car covered in bloodstains, she bit her lip and, trembling, took out her phone.
“Hello, ambulance…”
—-
Because of the accident, Ye Jinwen and Mo Si were rushed directly into the operating room.
Gu Jingyi was declared dead at the scene; no one had hit her. It was the force of being thrown from the car that killed her.
When Xiao Qimo arrived at the hospital with Lu Mian, those two were still not out of the operating room.
Ya Ling stood alone at the door. On seeing Lu Mian arrive, she finally found some support.
Her face was stained with blood, which obscured her original appearance.
Lu Mian gave her a hug, then took Ya Ling to the restroom to help her tidy up slowly.
“What happened?”
Leaning against the wall with a despondent expression, Ya Ling said woodenly, “We were both pursuing Gu Jingyi, closing in from two sides. Just when we were about to catch her, someone threw Gu Jingyi out of the car. Ye Jinwen swerved to avoid her, but didn’t manage to avoid me…”
“So, he ended up like this because he was trying not to hit you?”
Ya Ling nodded heavily.
“He didn’t know it was me.” She laughed at the emotions that carried those words, “That’s just how he is, responsible and with an overwhelming sense of justice. He values the lives of others more than his own, even more than those close to him.”
Lu Mian, unsure of what to say, continued to wipe the blood from her cheek with a wet cloth.
“He’ll be okay.”
“Heh.” Ya Ling took the wet cloth and nodded, “Thank him for me, will you? I need to go.”
“Won’t you wait for him to wake up?”
“With Mr. Xiao from the Xiao Family there, he should be fine.” Ya Ling waved her hand dismissively, not wanting to linger on the subject, “By the way, Gu Jingyi’s identity isn’t that simple, is it? Are you hiding something from us?”
Lu Mian sighed and patted Ya Ling’s shoulder, “Go get some rest. I’ll explain everything once you’ve calmed down.”
“Okay.”
An hour after Ya Ling left, Mo Si and Ye Jinwen both came out of the operating room.
Mo Si’s injuries were minor, just some scrapes.
Ye Jinwen took all the damage onto himself. His head required seven stitches, his left arm was broken, and now in a cast.
Overall, though it was a narrow escape, it could be considered fortunate that nothing vital was harmed.
Xiao Qimo had arranged everything for them. Initially planning to send another person to Wucheng, Mo Nie happened to be returning from F Continent to report to Wucheng, so Xiao Qimo arranged for Mo Nie to take care of the two.
On the corridor, Xiao Qimo looked at Lu Mian, “Is that your friend?
“She just told me to thank Ye Jinwen and Mo Si.” Lu Mian avoided answering Xiao Qimo’s question.
“What do you make of this Gu Jingyi incident?”
Lu Mian scoffed, “It reminds me of a saying, the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. Gu Jingyi was executed by her own people.”
“…” Xiao Qimo looked at her intently, “What about you? Are you going to continue hiding things from me?”
