Chapter 948: Chapter 948: Sinking Chapter 948: Chapter 948: Sinking Yamata no Orochi was beyond shocked, only now realizing just how powerful Greg Jensen truly was, having not even used his full strength during their previous encounters.
“What are you dazing out for, let’s go!”
Greg gave its head a pat, “Take me to the Passageway between Two Realms.”
“As you command, master!”
Coming back to its senses, Yamata no Orochi quickly led Greg towards the crater.
“Master, be careful, it might be a bit hot inside.”
“I’m not afraid!”
Greg exhaled a breath of Dragon Breath, enveloping them both, and sat on Yamata no Orochi’s back as they flew into the volcano’s mouth.
His last visit to the God of Fire’s realm had prepared him for this kind of environment, so nothing here came as too much of a surprise.
Passing through the thick black smoke, they reached the magma pools where the air was thin and scorchingly dry.
Looking at the molten lava glowing red and yellow, Greg frowned, “Is the Passageway between Two Realms in a place like this?”
He had assumed that the passage would be in Siberia, since that’s where the Giant Dragon had come from to enter this world.
“It’s at the bottom of the lava.”
Fearing Greg would not believe, Yamata no Orochi took the lead and jumped in first.
Greg, unafraid of the high heat, hesitated only for a moment before following suit.
Under Yamata no Orochi’s guidance, the two reached the bottom of the magma pool.
After passing through a layer that felt like a membrane, Greg couldn’t help but be astonished.
Looking up, he could still see the red magma, but despite what he saw, he couldn’t feel the heat from outside, and the air was fresh–it was as if they’d entered an entirely different space.
This space wasn’t very large, about the size of a soccer field, but at the end, an old, quiet Mountain God Temple stood firmly.
It was as if a host awaiting guests stood ready to meet them at the door.
It seemed the temple outside was built in this one’s image.
After Greg entered, he indeed found it was identical to the one outside, except the statues on the offering table had been replaced with a Bronze Cauldron.
He tried moving it but found the cauldron was fixed in place and could not be shifted.
Only after a thorough investigation did he discover that the entire temple was a large Formation, with the Bronze Cauldron serving as its core.
And the energy source for the Formation was none other than Mount Fuji itself.
As long as the flames of Mount Fuji never died, the Formation would never lack an energy source.
According to Yamata no Orochi, many such Formations existed in the ancient times, but they were destroyed by the Emperor.
This one must have been slowly repaired by the World Tree, and Yamata no Orochi was its test subject.
If left uninterrupted, in not too long, the World Tree would have completely restored the Formation, allowing full connection between the two realms.
To disrupt the Formation and prevent travel between the realms, there were only two methods.
Either completely destroy the Formation or eliminate its energy source.
Greg’s brows knitted. If the Emperor of old couldn’t completely destroy the Formation, then surely he couldn’t either. It would be better to consider options concerning the energy source.
If the Formation was powered by the entire volcano, then if the volcano was extinguished, what power would it have?
With this thought, a flash of inspiration struck Greg, and he left the volcano with Yamata no Orochi.
Ascending into the air, he directed a breath of Dragon Breath towards the mouth of the volcano.
The dense white frost fog fell slowly downward, almost tangible; even pushing down the rising smoke.
However, upon falling into the volcano’s mouth, the white fog was dissipated by the hot air.
Greg was not discouraged, returning to the interior of the volcano to exhale more Dragon Breath.
The result was the same, and despite his Dragon Breath being infused with the Power of the Ice God, it was still unable to quiet the flames of the volcano.
“Master, this isn’t working.”
“Hmm.”
Greg frowned, gazing out at the surrounding sea waters of Sakura Island and was suddenly struck with an idea.
If Dragon Breath wouldn’t work, then perhaps sea water would!
Greg took out the Sword of Coagulated Frost, composed himself, channeled his Mana, and struck fiercely down upon Sakura Island.
The sword light was like water!
The grey leaden clouds seemed to come to life, retreating involuntarily before even touching the sword light.
That sword light, at first just a thin beam of brightness, then poured down like an inverted Milky Way from the black cloud layers.
“This is–”
“So beautiful!”
Countless Sakura People witnessed this scene, and amidst their surprise, couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder, speculating what it could be.
It wasn’t until the sword light fell upon Mount Fuji that people finally revealed expressions of terror and turned to flee without looking back.
Boom!
The massive explosion, along with violent tremors, could be felt across the entire Sakura Island.
In the horrified gazes of the people, Mount Fuji crumbled inch by inch, as if it were made of paper, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.
“Mount Fuji!”
“It’s gone?”
“My God, that’s the faith of our Cherrywood nation!”
However, they soon had no time to lament, for as Mount Fuji collapsed, an even more severe vibration followed.
The whole of Sakura Island began to sink.
Boom, boom, boom!
The deafening sounds of explosions and cries of terror were unceasing!
Several hours later.
Mount Fuji had completely sunken beneath the surface of the sea, and the huge cavity within caused the seawater to backfill ceaselessly, even forming a vortex on the ocean’s surface.
The surging magma, stimulated by the cold water, continued to burst forth.
The surrounding seawater emitted layers of steam, as if it were about to boil.
Beyond that, Sakura Island had sunk by more than half, with less than one-tenth of its area still stubbornly floating on the sea surface.
The Emperor had just taken a naval ship back and saw the place where Sakura Island was supposed to be turned into a vast ocean, initially mistaking the crew for getting the location wrong.
It was only after personally checking the coordinates and sea charts that he confirmed that his own Cherrywood had indeed disappeared.
“Damn it! Can somebody tell me how a perfectly good island just disappeared!?”
“Our Cherrywood.”
Dragon Farm also had a face of mourning, on the way back the Emperor had just agreed to help him secure the position of Prime Minister.
Now, with the country gone, how could he serve as Prime Minister?
This left everyone on the naval ship dumbfounded, staring blankly at the empty sea.
Elsewhere, Greg Jensen waited until the sea was filled for a while, then took the Yamata no Orochi to the seabed to inspect the state of the Temple.
Without the energy provided by the magma, the Temple grew dim and dull, even the membrane that had been there before had disappeared.
“Success!”
Greg, overjoyed, raised the sword in his hand and began hacking away at the Temple.
The originally immensely hard Temple, after losing the protection of its formation, became just like an ordinary copper piece.
In front of the Sword of Coagulated Frost, a divine artifact, it was as simple as slicing tofu.
After a few swipes, Greg felt confident, walked into the Temple, and sure enough, saw that the array had collapsed on its own, only leaving behind the bronze cauldron.
He lifted his hand, sheared off the base, carefully examined the small cauldron in his hand, and then casually tossed it into the Storage Ring.
Having resolved a long-standing worry, Greg felt at ease, “I can finally relax and enjoy life without a care in the world now.”
Just as he was about to turn and leave, he suddenly noticed a black dot on the base, trembling non-stop and seemingly growing larger.
After a moment’s thought, Greg realized this was the so-called space crack. Without it, the World Tree could never establish the passageway between the two realms.
“I’ll freeze you for now, we’ll talk about it when you’re needed in the future.”
Greg, mimicking the memory of the Giant Dragon, exhaled a breath of Dragon Breath and with a stroke drew an arcane rune, sealing the space crack completely.
Having done all this, he finally relaxed completely, his entire body radiating ease.
