Chapter 946: Chapter 946: Mountain God Temple Chapter 946: Chapter 946: Mountain God Temple Trey Holmes snorted, “He’s the overall commander of this defense line.”
Samuel Collins hurriedly stepped forward to pay his respects, respectfully saying, “I am Samuel Collins, pleased to meet the True Monarch.”
“Hmm.”
Greg Jensen heard the secretary’s tone was not good, his face grew somewhat icy, and he said brusquely, “The battlefield still needs your people to clean up, thank you for your hard work.”
“Of course, this is what we should do,” Samuel Collins said with an awkward smile.
Trey Holmes looked at his obsequious manner and couldn’t help but curl his lip, muttering, “Arrogant at first and then obsequious, what a thing.”
Greg Jensen couldn’t help but laugh out loud and glared at Trey Holmes before saying, “Alright, I have other matters to attend to, I must go to Sakura Island.”
“What for?”
“To completely resolve the trouble with the Ferocious Beasts.”
“We…”
“You don’t need to go, I can handle it alone.”
Greg Jensen shook his head, turned to Samuel Collins, and said solemnly, “Since Cherrywood has sided with the Ferocious Beasts, then there’s no need for it to exist anymore. The naval ships out at sea should not be allowed to return.”
Samuel Collins immediately stood up straight, saluted crisply, and said loudly, “Understood!”
“Need help with that?”
“No need!”
Samuel Collins bowed again, saying with a smile, “You’ve already been a great help, we can take care of the rest of these ordinary affairs ourselves.”
“Hmm.”
Greg Jensen nodded, bid farewell to Trey Holmes, and then rode the Yamata no Orochi to Sakura Island.
With the Yamata no Orochi as his subordinate, Greg Jensen found traveling much more convenient; it could change size, and it flew steadily and swiftly.
Its scales were just a bit hard; perhaps it should be fitted with a sofa or something similar, that would be more comfortable.
Remembering the legendary human emperor who had once used a Giant Dragon to pull his chariot, Greg Jensen couldn’t help but entertain a similar thought.
If he could craft a chariot that flew in the sky, and then have the Yamata no Orochi pull it, that would be truly enjoyable.
…
On the way, after Yamata no Orochi explained, Greg Jensen learned that it indeed was not a native Ferocious Beast, but came from another world–The Immortal Realm.
According to it, The Immortal Realm used to be a part of Earth.
Back then, beasts roamed below, and ancient gods continually demanded sacrifices above, leaving humankind living in dire straits.
Eventually, the human emperor was born, who separated the Two Realms, creating an exclusive world for human beings to live in.
The Two Realms were connected by the World Tree.
However, even with powerful beings guarding the gate between worlds, they couldn’t prevent some from crossing the border to commit atrocities.
Angered, the human emperor waged war against the ancient gods and ultimately severed the World Tree, stripping The Immortal Realm away and sealing the Passageway between Two Realms.
As for the specifics, Yamata also did not know; this legend was well-known throughout The Immortal Realm.
The Yamata no Orochi itself discovered a fissure in the passageway by chance, which was how it managed to make its way to Earth.
However, it only realized after arriving that the crack in the passageway had originally been caused by the Creation God Tree.
Greg Jensen asked, “What exactly is that thing?”
Yamata shook its head and said, “I am not quite sure what it is exactly, but I suspect it might be a remnant branch of the World Tree. It survived that great battle back then and later, through the Incense God Path, it gradually recovered some vitality.”
“Incense God Path?”
“That’s worship.”
“What is used for the worship?”
Yamata glanced back at Greg Jensen deliberately, “What do you think is used for the worship?”
Greg Jensen raised his hand and gave it a smack, sending its head snapped back as he snapped, “Just say it when I tell you to, what secrets are you hiding?”
“Ouch, Master, I was wrong.”
Yamata no Orochi quickly explained, “The old monsters that survived from that era definitely relied on blood sacrifices.
There’s no nature’s spiritual energy in this place, and cultivation isn’t possible, so naturally the only option is to follow the Incense God Path through traces of blood.”
Hearing “blood sacrifice,” Greg Jensen’s face instantly darkened. Although he had killed many people, it was out of hatred and conflict.
He could obliterate an entire family of enemies and could kill danger in the bud before it showed any threat.
However, he could not bring himself to enhance his strength by killing innocent people, that hurdle was too high for his conscience.
Due to several nuclear bombs, Sakura Island was left severely damaged, and the nation barely managed to clean up an area for the common people to live.
But after the appearance of Yamata no Orochi, the eruption of Mount Fuji further deteriorated the living environment.
From afar, billowing black smoke loomed in sight, even obscuring most of the sunlight.
“You’re saying that World Tree old thing is on Mount Fuji?”
“Yes.”
Fearful that Greg Jensen would not believe him, Yamata hurriedly explained, “The passageway between Two Realms is inside the mouth of Mount Fuji. It can’t bear to leave and must guard it.”
Greg Jensen looked down and indeed saw a dilapidated temple at the peak of the mountain.
The temple wasn’t large, including the courtyard and main hall, it was only about the size of a basketball court.
Just as Greg Jensen was hesitating about whether to take action, a hearty laughter came from the temple below.
“Since the fellow Daoist has come, why not come down for a chat?”
“Heh.”
Greg Jensen scoffed, patted Yamata on the head, and approached the temple.
“Wait outside.”
“Yes, Master.”
Contrary to what he had imagined, the interior of the temple was not terrifying at all. Instead, there were a few chickens and ducks, and even a pond of koi fish, creating a rather peaceful atmosphere.
In the center of the main hall, an image of an old man was worshipped, yet it was none of the gods or buddhas Greg Jensen was familiar with.
Beneath the offering table, a skinny old man was arranging the altar when he turned his head upon hearing footsteps.
Greg Jensen almost laughed out loud when he saw the old man. His appearance was exactly the same as the image being worshipped.
He couldn’t help but sneer, “I’ve seen many who worship their parents and ancestors. This is the first time I’ve seen someone erect a statue of themselves.”
The old man sighed, “I had to do what was necessary after falling to this state.”
Greg Jensen sneered, “You make it sound so noble. Regardless, you’re still alive, while those you sacrificed so innocently, how unjust is that?”
“Your words are misguided.”
The old man smiled and shook his head, “Has the fellow Daoist not heard the saying, ‘Nature is indifferent and regards all beings as straw dogs’? To me, they are but a bunch of livestock awaiting slaughter, to serve as aids on my journey home, is their good fortune.”
“Utter nonsense!”
Greg Jensen felt a surge of anger, “What journey home? You were just a piece of rotting wood, becoming sentient only by a fluke. And now you dare talk of returning home, you’re not even human, what home do you have?”
The old man’s face changed slightly, but soon returned to normal, still smiling amicably, “Fellow Daoist, you have seen the truth. Why bother yourself over some mortals and ruin our harmony?”
Greg Jensen shook his head, “Perhaps in your eyes, they’re just like pigs and dogs, but to me, they are my beloved family and friends, my brothers and sisters. And you, you’re just a monstrous apparition, neither human nor ghost.”
The old man’s face grew stern and he said calmly, “Does the fellow Daoist mean we must have a confrontation today?”
Greg Jensen shook his head, “You’re mistaken, it’s not just a confrontation, you must die!”
