Chapter 27: New Hope

Mylo had his own way of doing things. Sometimes, I don’t quite understand him. At that moment, I was convinced that he had his own plan, and that he didn’t need my intervention.

I’d support him in whatever he did, as long as I can find Abraham. But just as he said, his main purpose might be to protect me. That might raise suspicions instead.

I couldn’t convince him to not enter the Hall Corporation, so I could only try to keep a distance from him.

“I hope we don’t need to have much interaction in the company. Of course, it would be better if you could tell me your plan.”

“I wish you’d tell me that, too.” He stared into my eyes sincerely.

I knew that this conversation was going nowhere. I was desperate whenever it came to searching for Abraham. “Let’s go.”

I headed for the van. Mylo followed behind and I guess he must have a helpless expression on his face now. We both kept quiet, not saying a word until we reached my place. I thanked him and headed upstairs.

All I could think of was how I was going to continue my investigation tomorrow. I’d have to ask the colleagues from the seven departments out individually, then figure out a way to get them to open up, just like what I did with Carol.

When I got home, I was greeted by a strong smell of smoke. It was a rather peculiar smell, probably because Selina had burnt something for some ritual.

Once Selina heard the sound of the door closing, she rushed out excitedly and hugged me. “Oh! Emma, I found traces of Abraham! He’s in this city!”

“Where?” Hearing that, I hurriedly asked. Even though I didn’t believe in witchcraft, at that moment, I really hoped that it would be effective.

Selina said, “I am sure that he’s in this city, but I’m not sure where he is. This is much better than before. There were only strange signs and guidances previously but now, I’m sure that he’s in Elsingborg.”

“Are you able to determine the exact location?”

“I have to try harder.” Selina smiled. “I can confirm that he’s still alive.”

“That’s great.” By now I was convinced that what Selina said was true. No matter where she got the information from, I’m sure what she just said was true.

“Our efforts won’t be in vain,” Selina said with her hands on my shoulders, feeling very relieved.

I nodded. I somehow felt that I’d be able to find him soon.

The next morning, I arrived at the office. As soon as I stepped inside, I heard a lot of people talking about the new President. Even in the afternoon, I heard people talking about it everywhere.

With every mention of the new President, I was reminded of Andrew. I thought about him over and over again, and the more I thought about it, the more I felt that his tone, demeanor, and movements were very familiar.

But it’s none of my business. I’d always find opportunities to talk to the remaining seven colleagues whenever I was free.

I spent all my time and energy meeting up with the colleagues from all seven departments. None of the seven missing people had anything to do with Monde and none of them had behaved oddly before they disappeared.

The only thing they had in common was that these seven people, like Abraham, were talented and capable, and they didn’t seem to get along well with their superiors. They all refused to work overtime and got off work on time.

Could it be that they were held captive by the Hall Corporation just because of that?

No, no way. The Hall Corporation wouldn’t be so stupid to hold eight people captive at once for such a reason.

On the 24th, I went to work as usual. As soon as I reached the door, I saw Mylo standing there majestically. I walked over with my head down, and fortunately, he didn’t greet me. As soon as I entered the elevator, I heard two young ladies talking about the new security guard.

“That new security guard is so handsome.”

“Yeah, I even secretly took two photos just now. I can share them with you.”

“I wonder if he has a girlfriend.”

“It doesn’t matter even if he does have one.”

Although I had no idea who they were talking about, Mylo seemed to be the only new security guard at the door. As usual, he was well liked by girls.

As soon as I entered the small room and sat down, Job burst into the room and showed me a photograph. It was Mylo. Job looked a little surprised. “Emma, what brings Milo to our company?”

“You could ask Mylo that same question and strike up a conversation with him.” I winked at Job.

I had no idea what was going on in Job’s head, but he was all excited. “That’s great.”

Job gave me a hug and rushed out again.

I switched on my computer and was ready to finish my work as soon as possible. I had just logged on to WeChat when I received a notification from a group chat. I clicked it open and saw that it was an official notice of the new President taking over.
