Chapter 2: Beast Atavism System

Andrew’s heart skipped a beat.

“Atavism? For my beasts? I wonder what my stupid lizard will turn to be after an atavism.” Andrew thought with curiosity. Then, he immersed himself in the Beast Space, which would open up after he contracted with a beast. The stronger his beast was, the larger the Beast Space would be.

However, Andrew’s current Beast Space was very small, just like a basketball. It was said that when the contracted beast cultivated up to a certain level, the Beast Space could flourish and become another small world on its own. 

When Andrew refocused his attention on Beast Space, he saw a series of information in front of him.

Atavism Status: Able to get atavism. The final atavism form will be the Black Dragon of Despair—Nidhogg!

That was the legendary black dragon entrenched in the roots of the Universe Tree, the embodiment of despairs and disasters. It was a beast of Mythical Tier that could easily destroy the world. Even the king of gods coveted it!

Mythical Tier!

The beasts were ranked into several tiers: Mortal, Strong Mortal, Extraordinary Mortal, Lord, Legendary, and Mythical.

Mortal Tier corresponded to 1-star beasts.

Strong Mortal Tier corresponded to 2 or 3-star beasts.

Extraordinary Tier corresponded to 4 or 5-star beasts.

Lord Tier corresponded to 6 or 7-star beasts.

Legendary Tier corresponded to 8 or 9-star beasts.

Mythical Tier, the top tier of beasts, corresponded to 10-star beasts! For instance, Behemoth Leviathan, Jörmungandr, and so on were all at this level.

Thinking of this, Andrew couldn’t help but feel excited. To be able to control a Mythical-Tier Beast was something that could be recorded in the annals of the history of Beast Tamers! 

“I didn’t expect that lizards could achieve such a terrifying atavism form!” Andrew was pleasantly surprised, but he didn’t show too much excitement in class.

Andrew went to a secluded park and summoned his beast out of the Beast Space.

Looking at his poor palm-sized lizard, Andrew heard the system’s notice ringing in his head. “Tamed Beast detected. One atavism reward. Do you want to use it?”

“Yes. I’ll use it.” Andrew agreed without hesitation.

A glimmering ray of light appeared out of thin air and enveloped the lizard’s body.

Soon, the lizard began to absorb the light. Andrew could see its palm-sized body expanding.

Crack! Crack!

Its bones emitted a series of crisp sounds until all the white light went into its body.

The entire body of the lizard had undergone an earth-shattering change. It grew nearly as tall as an adult. Black scales grew out of its skin, and its claws became sharp!

Roar!

It let out a roar! Its eyes flashed with a bright light as if it was delighted.

Atavism completed!

It crawled to Andrew’s side, lowered its head, and licked Andrew with its tongue.

The poor palm-sized little creature to Andrew had turned into one about the same size as him.

Its body was covered in black scales, faintly surrounded by the aura of Black Death. It was almost half of Andrew’s height lying on the ground. And it could definitely reach up to 7 feet tall if it stood up.

How magical the Atavism System was!

At the same time, the system gave a bunch of notices.

Evaluation: Iron-armored Black Lizard has a trace of the bloodline of Black King Nidhogg. It can use part of the Black King’s power, which is less than 1% of its strength.

Andrew was very surprised. An evolution of atavism could be so amazing! It upgraded the beast from 1 star to 2 stars!

Aptitude couldn’t be changed. It decided what the beast was by nature. However, the system could actually upgrade the aptitude of a beast! It could not only help a beast acquire powerful skills in atavism but also help it upgrade its aptitude.

Every time a beast’s aptitude increased by one star, its fundamental strength would be vastly different. Take this lizard for example, it was a 1-star beast as a chick-like lizard but became a 2-star beast as a calf-like Iron-armored Black Lizard. There was a world of difference between them.

Looking at its pitiful look, Andrew was amused. Stroking its head, he said with a smile, “Are you hungry?”

The lizard seemed to understand what he said and wobbled its big head up and down.

“Alright, I’ll let you have a good meal!”

Soon later, it was eating a wild boar. Andrew was shocked with his mouth twitched at he saw it. The lizard was so gluttonous that it ate up three wild boars weighing 200 pounds which Andrew had just bought! He had planned to feed the lizard with them over a period of time. 

“Looks like I have to find a way to earn money, or else I won’t be able to raise this pet.” Andrew thought to himself.

But how would he earn money?

Seeing the last wild boar eaten by the lizard, Andrew had an idea. He could find those ferocious beasts in the wild!

Thinking of this, Andrew was also shocked by this thought.

The wild! It was basically the territory of ferocious beasts. Although humans had defended against a large number of ferocious beasts ten years ago, it was only a defense strategy. There were still many ferocious beasts that occupied many of the territories on earth.

Therefore, the wild could be one of the most dangerous places in this world.

However, the more Andrew thought about it, the more feasible he felt.

The system also mentioned that the only way to obtain the crystal nucleus to accumulate energy in Beast Atavism System was to kill the ferocious beasts. Then, the system could activate the next atavism.
