Chapter 43: The Opening Ceremony (1)
Proofread by Peter Gong
The one who walks on together with the Emperor is a young girl dressed like a summoner, whose fair figure is perfectly brought out by the form-fitting robe. Her purple hair fylying in the wind looks otherworldly beautiful, while her gorgeous face and inherent nobility boost her charm. Even her frosty face also makes her more attractive than daunting.
But Rowen doesn’t pay attention to her. He is more concerned with the white-robed girl walking behind the Emperor, the girl who is as captivating as the purple-haired girl. That is Joey, his old friend.
Beside her is a handsome enchanter, who looks handsome, gentle and young. No one will deny that he and Joey are well-matched.
Strangely, Rowen feels sick at heart at this moment. He can’t help thinking of what Carlos has mentioned – is he Joey’s fiancé?
Just then, Catherine’s words are heard. She starts introducing for students. “The one comes first is His Majesty, Ross Fox. Beside him is our youngest princess, Winona. Princess Winona is just 16 years old, but there are rumors that she has successfully summoned a Therion.”
“Therion?” York can’t wait to interrupt. “Is that true? Has she indeed summoned a Therion?”
“I’m not really sure either. But on most of the occasions His Majesty hardly takes bodyguards and just lets Princess Winona accompany him. This is not only because he treats Princess Winona as the apple of his eye, but also because she is strong enough to secure his safety.” Catherine says fast.
“Mentor Catherine, what about the young enchanter behind His Majesty?” Rowen can’t help but ask.
“That’s Prince Chris. He is gifted with strong magic power and is said to be a senior enchanter. As a kind man, he is the most respected prince within the Empire. There are rumors that he is most likely to succeed the throne.” Catherine blushes slightly— seemly she is one of the Prince’s admirers, too. “The girl walking along with him is Joey Perrucci, his fiancée, a student of the Royal Knight College, too. She is 18 years old and it is said that she will soon become a senior warrior. They will hold the wedding as soon as Joey graduates from the college.”
“So she is Joey. This is indeed the first beauty in our school.” York mutters.
Rowen’s heart is in a mess. At last he understands Carlos’s words. Joey’s fiancé is a prince of the Empire. No wonder Carolos said that even the Perrucci Family can’t afford to displease him!
He tries to distract himself, but Joey keeps lingering in his mind, which makes him feel so bad that he is a bit absent-minded in the following process. He doesn’t even know what His Majesty has spoken during the ceremony, let alone what Catherine has said.
“Rowen, Rowen!” A pull at Rowen’s arm shakes him from his contemplation.
“What’s up, York?” Rowen is still a bit confused.
“Are you okay?” York seems to be concerned, “You doesn’t seem quite yourself.”
“I’m fine.” Rowen forces a smile.
“Then go. Let’s have a meal.” York doesn’t persist.
“Meal?” Rowen is surprised. He looks around and finds that most of the people have left. “Is the ceremony over?”
“Rowen, what are you thinking? You don’t even know the ceremony has been over?” Fron’s voice comes from the side, then the owner of the voice smiles at Rowen vaguely. “Oh, are you really thinking of how to make Diana a big white sheep?”
Rowen shakes his head. He looks up at the stage – both the Emperor and Joey have left as expected.
“What’s wrong with me?” Rowen asks himself in mind. He has never been like this in his life. Patriarch Brain always taught him to be calm no matter what happens. However, he has just seemed to forget all about his guidance.
“I can’t do this anymore. Whenever I see her again, calm down!” Rowen vows within himself. But he is still somewhat confused. Why did he behave like that when he saw Joey? Is Carlos right, and he does like Joey?
“Let’s go. We can chat while eating in canteen.” York suggests.
Rowen nods, heads for the canteen with other three students— in addition to York and Fron, Alisa also joins them. She seems to be acquainted with Fron. Rowen is not sure whether she has hooked up with Fron and he doesn’t care. He has no interest in Ailsa.
…
After the unpleasant opening ceremony, Rowen gets into his stride as a student of the Royal Knight College. The ensuing life is uneventful. Although he once became the enemy of boys in the college due to Diana, none troubles him since Diana intends to get back at Rowen personally.
Nina and Carl are getting into their stride, too. Carl isn’t strong enough, but his outgoing personality makes up for it. He can easily get along with everyone, and it is said that he is popular in his class; as for Nina, of course, the blonde is very popular. It’s pretty normal that a beauty will be well received anywhere.
Agatha is busy with house-building. Rowen has visited her a few times. At first, he planned to do her a favor, but later he found there was little he could do and therefore gave up his attempt. Anyway, there is no need to worry about Agatha. With her outstanding capability and Rederot’s protection, of course, nothing will go wrong.
The only thing that confuses Rowen is that he still doesn’t know which class Agatha is in. He asked Agatha, but the girl deliberately made a mystery of that. At last he didn’t bother to ask.
Naturally, Rowen attends class in the daytime. Almost all the classes in this period are theory courses, which Rowen takes seriously since he is deficient in the theoretical knowledge of summoner. After all, he had no systematic study in it. Therefore, he attends these classes on time every day.
Every noon there is a long break, which Rowen naturally spends in practicing the Sun and Moon Mind Method. It is when the sunlight is most intense and the practice effect is the best. Even though Rowen can’t spend as much time to practice as before, he feels that his practicing process doesn’t slow down. Meanwhile, the cultivation at night not only lets Rowen make progress in Qi of the Sun and Moon, but also rapidly improves his magic power.
The mysterious Miss Molly has not given Rowen any information yet, which also makes Rowen vaguely fear that the chance to find his parents is slim.
Rowen starts to get familiar with his classmates. Usually he is together with York and Fron, who live in the same building, and thus they go to classes and the canteen with him.
Fron does show great interest in Alisa while York, the little fat guy, has design on Mentor Catherine, which convinces Rowen of the old saying, “never judge a book by its cover.”
This morning, Rowen is on his way to the classroom with Fron and York, while Fron nudges Rowen suddenly. “Hey, your big white sheep is coming.”
“Come on, this is not my business, okay?” Rowen feels a bit speechless. Of course, Fron refers to Diana. This guy always connects Rowen with Diana and urges him to get her.
Anyhow, Rowen still looks in the direction of Fron’s fingers and sees the so-called Enchanted Princess comes in hurry with a large crowd.
After a few seconds, they come close to Rowen quickly. To Rowen’s surprise, Diana does see him, but this time she does nothing.
He occasionally met Diana on campus before. Every time Diana would make a provocation and mention “roast pig” at every turn. Never has she completely ignored him like now!
That is a little strange. But Rowen doesn’t dwell on it. He quickly turns away, keeping on walking toward the classroom. He is not a trouble-maker.
The morning class is still a theoretical course. However, unlike the former courses, this time it is about the summoners’ combat theory, which means Rowen and his classmates will start their actual combat training.
For summoners, enchanters or warriors, there is no doubt that their greatest value is shown in battles. Therefore, for students in the Royal Knight College, theoretical courses are just fundamental and actual combat training is the most important course.
As for summoners, commanding his or her summoning beast to fight is an art. Combat skills are of great importance, especially when a summoner has more than one summoning beasts.
Different summoning beasts have different features and different means of attack as usual. What summoners should do is to know all about the abilities of every summoning beast and give appropriate instructions, so as to maximize these abilities.
Summoners not only command their summoning beasts to attack, but also let them make an appropriate defense. Because summoners are fragile, they must protect their own safety while attacking. Even though summoning beasts are highly intelligent, after all, they are beasts and won’t always protect summoners consciously.
However, before taking actual combat training, one should face another problem, that is, to find an appropriate opponent. According to the tradition of the Royal Knight College, students in magic department and summoning department usually find their opponents in warriors department.
Warriors department has the largest number of students, basically equivalent to that of magic and summoning department. In actual combat, warriors are the most troublesome opponents for summoners and enchanters in most cases, since they tend to bypass the summoning beasts and magics, attacking summoners and enchanters directly. The weak summoners and enchanters simply can’t withstand a direct attack from warriors. As a result, preventing themselves from the warriors’ attack is a top concern for summoners.
