Chapter 45: I Am an Adult Now. I Am Not a Child Anymore

“What if I told you that I want to break free from the Li family?” She asked.

She continued her point without waiting for a reply. “He’s my father and he has decided my marriage even if the man he is asking me to marry has a serious flaw in his character. I have no right to choose for myself. The reason being that I’m not his favorite daughter. Moreover, I’m not strong enough to resist him.”

A nineteen-year-old girl should not be wearing such an expression.

Song Boyan stared at her stubborn and sad face. After a short while, he said to her, “I’ll talk to your father about that later.”

Then, he stared at Tang Li with a sad face. “You’re still young. You shouldn’t allow yourself to be filled with bad emotions.”

Tang Li looked at him again.

Song Boyan used a gentler voice when he saw her little deer-like eyes. “Don’t be troubled with anything, not even love. Don’t be afraid of the future and don’t dwell on the past. When you’re able to do that, you will no longer remember about all those things that have made you suffer.”

“What if the past is too painful to bear?” Tang Li retorted. She could not help pouring out her most genuine thoughts in front of him. “Can one really forget about the past and forgive the people who have wronged her deeply? What if she was manipulated by both of her husband and family? What if her own husband lied to her and betrayed her? What if they caused her death in the end?”

She did not know why she had told him those things.

It might be because there was too much emotion being suppressed inside of her after she had gotten the second chance to live again.

She wanted so badly for the entire Li family to pay a heavy price in a single night for what they had done to her. However, it seemed like an impossible mission to her now.

She was dependent on them now and she had no way to change that.

Song Boyan noticed her strong emotion now. It seemed like her silent resistance. Song Boyan put her strong hands on his knees and said slowly to her, “They could not take revenge on whatever harm is done to them when they’re alive. Moreover, it would surely burden the people who are left alive if they want to avenge the deceased people.”

“What if she came back to life?

“Could she take revenge if she came back to life?”

Song Boyan turned to look at Tang Li again after she had thrown two hypothetical questions at him. She was still holding to her own belief stubbornly. He continued speaking, “If one holds dear to a lot of memories in her heart, it means that there will be more things that could harm her in the future. If you remember the past so distinctly, surely that would easily build a cage and you’d be imprisoned by it. One day, you will lose yourself in that cage.”

Tang Li remained quiet.

All of a sudden, silence filled the air.

Song Boyan noticed her sadness. He then said to her, “It’s good if you want to do justice to yourself but you need to protect yourself first.”

He got up after he said that. He looked at Tang Li’s small pale face. “A nineteen-year-old girl shouldn’t be talking about hatred. You should do what you should be doing at your age. It’s not a good thing if you think too much. You’ll eventually meet a dead-end.”

“I’m nineteen years old now.” Tang Li corrected him. “I’m all grown up now. I’m not the child that you are implying me to be.”

Song Boyan smiled softly when he heard that. He took the towel from behind him. After a series of training, his strong and tall body had made him seemed much mature and solemn.

Tang Li felt that there was something unsettled deep in her heart.

Both of her hands were still inside her pocket. But, she still felt a sense of insecurity.

“Did you come here with your father today?” Song Boyan changed the subject.

That leisure club was a highly private place.

It only allowed its privilege to important and influential politicians. Even the ordinary rich businessmen were prohibited there. So, the common people would be unable to enter the club.

Tang Li did not deny that. Song Boyan then asked her again, “Did you dye your hair this morning?”
