Chapter 331: Chapter 0331: The More We Love, The Deeper It Becomes Chapter 331: Chapter 0331: The More We Love, The Deeper It Becomes The logistics company chartered several cargo planes to deliver the materials directly, and they arrived in Hangcheng on the morning of the third day. Mu Lan was somewhat dumbfounded; she had clearly said that ocean freight would take a week, yet they used cargo planes instead.
“Tang Xin, did you say something to Huo Tingxiao?”
Mu Lan felt the occurrence was too coincidental. How could it be that right after her troubles arose, everything was neatly arranged? Lately, the logistics company’s schedule was fully booked, to say nothing of cargo plane transportation.
Tang Xin guiltily shook her head.
“No, no, absolutely not, I didn’t tell my brother-in-law anything.”
Seeing her reaction, Mu Lan knew her guess was almost certainly on the mark.
“When did you talk to him?”
Tang Xin looked like she was about to cry, truly at a loss for an explanation.
Where would she dare tell Mu Lan the truth? After all, it was Huo Tingxiao who had instructed her not to spill the beans.
It’s all over, if the news leaked from her, then…
“President Mu, I really didn’t tell anything to my brother-in-law, I…”
Mu Lan narrowed her eyes. Tang Xin immediately caved in and explained the whole sequence of events.
The more Mu Lan heard, the darker her expression became. So, Huo Tingxiao had to deal with those jackals and wolves while also cleaning up her mess. It was bad enough she couldn’t help, but she had even caused more trouble for Huo Tingxiao.
Her heart ached, her eyes filled with painful redness. She hadn’t cried when facing difficulties, nor had she cried when dealing with the deliberate obstructions from partners, but the thought of Huo Tingxiao doing all this for her made Mu Lan’s tears well up.
Tang Xin was startled to see Mu Lan like this.
“President Mu, it’s my fault, I should not have been loose-lipped, please don’t be angry.”
Mu Lan looked at the self-reproaching Tang Xin, took a deep breath, and pushed back her tears.
“I’m not blaming you, I’m blaming myself.”
Tang Xin looked at Mu Lan, puzzled.
Mu Lan didn’t elaborate. Now wasn’t the time for her to wallow in self-pity or to be distracted by self-blame. She had to immediately set her own house in order and then return to Huo Tingxiao’s side, where she at least ought to provide him with some emotional support, if not actual help.
Mu Lan sent the newly arrived materials to the factory and prepared orders for the Double Eleven shopping festival.
After resolving all issues, the first thing Mu Lan did upon returning to Maple Forest Garden was to cook personally. She knew what Huo Tingxiao liked to eat and also what was suitable for his current physical condition.
Nanny Li watched Mu Lan busily preparing soup and smiled slightly. She knew that Mu Lan, a career woman, was busy, yet she was still willing to cook for Huo Tingxiao, which spoke volumes; it was clear that the young couple was deeply in love, and she felt happy for them.
Huo Tingxiao, unaware that Mu Lan had returned half a day earlier than usual, came home at the regular time to find a table full of dishes, which initially stunned him. Then he saw his dearly missed little wife emerging from the kitchen, wearing an apron.
“You’ve come back just in time.”
“You…”
“I made your favorite dishes, give them a try.”
Mu Lan smiled as she took off her apron, appearing to be in a good mood.
“I was supposed to return tonight. I was just thinking of changing clothes to pick you up.”
“I came back early to keep you company, aren’t you happy?”
Huo Tingxiao shook his head hastily after hearing this.
“How could I not be happy, I… did you find out?”
Mu Qiansa raised an eyebrow.
“Impressive, you’ve bribed everyone around me. What kind of benefits did you give to Tang Xin to make her so obedient to you?”
“Did Tang Xin tell you?”
“The girl was coerced into talking, but she’s quite tight-lipped, with absolutely no intention of betraying you.
Helping is fine, but why play the unnamed hero? Is it fun?”
Huo Tingxiao, afraid she might be angry, whispered an explanation.
“I was worried that logistics might delay your progress, so I took the initiative. It’s not that I don’t trust your abilities, so… please don’t be angry, okay?”
Mu Lan looked at Huo Tingxiao’s cautious manner, her heart filled with a mix of emotions. She knew that ever since he realized his feelings for her, he had always felt guilty and was extremely careful in everything, which she actually didn’t want to see.
“Huo Tingxiao, do you really see me as such a capricious and ungrateful person?”
Huo Tingxiao shook his head vigorously.
“No… I mean…”
Mu Lan’s eyes watched him, serene with a hint of wistfulness and tenderness.
“Indeed, you made decisions for me, and regardless of your intention, the outcome is that you solved the problems I faced.
But many things can’t be judged solely by their outcomes. I know your purpose and intentions behind this matter, so I won’t blame you.”
His eyes brightened when Huo Tingxiao realized she wasn’t angry.
Unfortunately, the next second…
“But!”
Mu Lan paused and took the opportunity to express her true thoughts.
“You need to change your thinking. If I couldn’t have done it, I would have asked for your help. But it’s my career, and facing this crisis is a test for me as well.
From your perspective, you want to protect me, which I can understand, but in the long run, it’s not good for me; I have to face things on my own.
And honestly, I am a bit angry, not with you for taking matters into your own hands, but with myself.”
Huo Tingxiao looked at her, not understanding why she would be angry with herself.
“Why?”
“Because of my own incompetence, which has caused you trouble.”
Mu Lan set the soup she prepared in front of Huo Tingxiao and spoke with a calm tone, simply sharing her true feelings.
Yet such feelings greatly shocked Huo Tingxiao.
“How could you think that way? How could you possibly be a nuisance? Anything I do for you is willingly and naturally expected.”
Mu Lan looked at Huo Tingxiao, his excited expression stirring a complex mix of emotions within her.
“Huo Tingxiao, this is your nature, and it won’t change overnight; neither did I ever expect to change anything about you just like that.
But when two people are together, there’s always a need for compromise. In the seven years before, it was me who always accommodated, and you’ve seen the result–I wasn’t happy.
Everyone thinks differently. As we start again, we need to understand each other’s thoughts, which will save us from many unnecessary misunderstandings.”
Huo Tingxiao kind of got it, but not completely.
“So you’re not blaming me now, just telling me that we think differently about this matter?”
“Exactly. Would I really be mad at you for solving a problem for me?
Sometimes, I am indeed unreasonable–upset that my own abilities aren’t enough, causing you trouble instead of helping. Huo Tingxiao, I admit that I lack a sense of security.
But this insecurity isn’t because of you–it’s because of myself. I don’t think I’m good enough yet.”
Mu Lan didn’t shy away from the hint of inferiority deep in her heart but chose to speak openly about it.
“If you think you’re not good enough, then what am I? Mu Lan, you don’t know how wonderful you are.”
