Chapter 311: Chapter 0311: Heartache? Chapter 311: Chapter 0311: Heartache? Pei Zhao looked at Lin Yize, who seemed as if he had lost his soul, and sneered.
“She didn’t believe him?”
Lin Yize stared blankly at Pei Zhao, silent. Silence was the best answer.
Pei Zhao had predicted this outcome long ago, his eyes full of mockery.
“Do you think these two really love each other that much?”
“Mr. Pei, what are you planning to do?”
“Nothing.”
Pei Zhao said nothing further, just curved his lips into a smile. However, that smile that didn’t reach his eyes was quite discomforting to look at.
Lin Yize always felt he was scheming something, unease lurking in his heart.

Mu Lan returned to the hospital to find Huo Tingxiao lying on the hospital bed, yet he hadn’t stopped working. His pale face as he replied to emails left her at a loss for words.
“Didn’t we agree that you were going to recuperate? Can’t you worry less about the company, is it that hard?”
Holding his phone, Huo Tingxiao looked like a child caught doing something wrong, his face plastered with a smile, trying to look pitiful to gain sympathy, but Mu Lan saw right through him.
“That won’t work, I don’t know who said they would give me their life. What use is a life you don’t care for to me?”
Mu Lan couldn’t help but get angry, and Huo Tingxiao immediately put away his phone, revealing a pleasing smile.
“I was just checking the time.”
Lying without blinking, this person has learned to be deceptive.
“Huo Tingxiao, lying is a plus one crime.”
“…”
Huo Tingxiao shut his troublesome mouth, looking at Mu Lan with puppy eyes like a large dog.
“Alright, stop looking at me like that, as if I’m always picking faults.”
Mu Lan sat by the bed, her face cold, her gaze averted, not looking at him.
Huo Tingxiao truly felt uneasy and knew he had caused her to worry, feeling guilty and remorseful.
“I was wrong, I promise not to do it again. Please don’t be mad, okay?”
Mu Lan gave him a stern look.
“About the company’s affairs, I can ask my brother if I don’t understand. Moreover, your subordinates aren’t just there for show. If there’s really something I can’t decide on, I’ll come ask you.
What, are you afraid that I will take over your position, or afraid that I’ll mess up your company?
Or perhaps, you simply don’t trust me?”
The more she spoke, the more absurd it became. Huo Tingxiao deeply regretted it, caught red-handed over a couple of emails. Now he was stuck, unable to clear up the misunderstanding.
“It’s a misunderstanding, that’s really not what I meant.”
“If that wasn’t what you meant, why are you still so eagerly working? Is work really that dear to you?”
Mu Lan was becoming more spirited as she spoke, her illness was a result of work stress accumulated over time, and now he hadn’t learned his lesson yet. Her morning’s pep talk wasn’t even a day old before he had forgotten about it, it was unbearable to think about, making her furious.
“No, no, you are the closest to me. Now that the old man has passed away, I only have you.”
As soon as Huo Tingxiao finished speaking, Mu Lan’s heart softened instantly by three inches.
She pursed her lips and said no more, somewhat regretting arguing with a sick person and reproaching him for so long.
Huo Tingxiao seeing that she had fallen silent thought she was even angrier, and hurriedly coaxed her with a few words.
“I just looked at a couple of emails, just to check the progress, didn’t do more than that, really, it’s not a big deal, I’ll make sure to keep the promises I made to you, I’m being very careful.”
“I just casually mentioned checking the time because I was afraid you would worry. I won’t lie to you anymore, don’t be mad, okay?”
Hearing his gentle voice, Mu Lan’s eyes reddened.
She threw her arms around his neck, resting her chin on his shoulder.
“I’m sorry, I spoke harshly just now. It wasn’t intentional, I really was scared. Tingxiao, please don’t push yourself so hard, take good care of your health.”
Her voice was choked with sobs, and Tingxiao felt a warmth in his heart, knowing that Mu Lan truly cared and worried about him.
“Yeah, I’ll listen to you.
Don’t apologize, you haven’t done anything wrong. You’re just concerned about me, and that’s not a mistake, silly girl.”
Mu Lan blinked back tears, remembering the slanderous words Lin Yize had said about Tingxiao. She regretted not kicking him hard; such people should be dealt with decisively.
She wondered what kind of fate she had, to be saved by such scum not just once but twice.
The feeling of owing something to scum was unbearable.
Thinking about those people spreading rumors behind Tingxiao’s back made her even angrier, but she couldn’t just go and confront each one personally–that would be demeaning.
Feeling upset, Mu Lan hugged Tingxiao and nuzzled against him, using this gesture to tell him how much she liked him.
Tingxiao felt that today, his little wife seemed especially clingy, and he roughly guessed why.
She must have heard some unpleasant rumors and felt sorry for him.
“What’s the matter? Someone spoke ill of me and you feel bad for me?”
Mu Lan looked up at him, her eyes red and swollen, making her look like a pitiful little rabbit.
Enchanted by the sight, Tingxiao thought, ‘This rabbit is mine, and so adorable.’
“They’re just brainless, jealous of you,” Mu Lan said indignantly, venting her frustration.
Though her outfit was chic and modern, her voice when she spoke was whiny and soft, enough to make his heart tremble.
Tingxiao smiled and gently stroked her head.
“Don’t worry about what others say. I never care about it. If I cared about every rumor and gossip, I fear I would have died–”
At the mention of that word from Tingxiao’s lips, Mu Lan quickly raised her hand to cover his mouth.
“Don’t talk nonsense; don’t say that word.”
With a smile in his eyes, Tingxiao then kissed the palm of her hand, tickling her until she involuntarily let go, and then, he kissed her passionately.
Despite being ill, he was still stronger than her. Mu Lan was kissed until she felt dizzy, melting in his arms, his gentle voice coming from above her head.
“Before, I used to think there was nothing in this world worth my concern–people and things were all the same to me.
But I later realized there are many interesting things in this world, as long as you’re with the right person. Everything seems interesting.
Mu Lan, don’t let a few idle words upset you.
If you focus all that energy on me, I’d be really happy. Just like you said, the Huo Family isn’t worth my thoughts, and those people aren’t worth your time either, it’s the same principle.”
Mu Lan leaned against him, biting her lip, realizing how easy it was to advise others and how hard it was to deal with herself.
“I’ve been holding back, didn’t burst out cursing right then; it was all just curses in my heart,” she murmured.
Tingxiao affectionately lowered his head and kissed her hair.
“Hmm, well done, but next time if you can’t hold back and want to curse, just go out and say whatever you want to, I’ll have your back.”
Those words ‘I’ll have your back’ truly warmed Mu Lan’s heart. She was not one to bully others using her position, but having someone to support her when needed felt really great.
“Tingxiao, no matter what others say, I only believe in you. You said you entrusted your life to me, and I… feel the same.”
