Chapter 273: Chapter 278 Where Did the Wife Come From

“Do I?” She certainly wouldn’t admit it.

“Yes!” Xu Qigang nodded affirmatively once again, “So it’s too late for you to deny. In this life, you can only be my wife. You’ve had your chance in the past, so there’s no turning back now.” He abruptly reached out and grasped Sheng Ning’s tender hand in his own calloused one.

A jolt of electricity made both of them startle.

Xu Qigang’s dry palm was slightly cold, while Sheng Ning’s hands were soft and boneless, holding them felt as if it could melt one’s heart.

“Cough cough…” The Boss gave an awkward cough as he approached.

Xu Qigang released her hand like a flash of lightning and sat up straight, his handsome face flushed with a tint of red.

“Ha ha…” Sheng Ning couldn’t help but laugh at his reaction as she politely thanked the Boss when he placed the noodles and rice in front of her.

“Eat up!” Xu Qigang said, almost shouting in embarrassment, then buried his head in his meal.

Sheng Ning was already hungry and started eating her noodles. The handmade noodles made by the farmers were chewy and strong, and although the soup wasn’t rich in oil, the addition of poached eggs, green onions, and meat made it taste wholly homemade, causing her to eat an extra half bowl than usual.

Ever since her rebirth, she hadn’t had noodles. Her home might have An’an and her mother who were quite capable, but they weren’t very good at cooking.

She still remembered her childhood, when her mother had just entered the household with An’an, much to her grandmother’s disapproval of the cooking.

Once, they nearly set the kitchen on fire. They made progress over the years, but it was still just passable.

“It’s delicious!” She smiled as she spoke.

“I will bring you here often from now on,” Xu Qigang said, a smile flickering in his eyes.

“Do you have money?”

“No!” He nodded honestly. Having paid off her five thousand yuan debt, it was already good that he wasn’t in too much debt himself. “Even if I’m broke, I can still provide for you.”

Sheng Ning pretended not to hear, bowing her head to sip the noodle soup. When she looked up after finishing the soup, he had already finished his meal!

“That was fast!” she quietly stuck out her tongue.

“On the rescue scene, being slow in eating can get you killed,” he said before standing up to pay the bill.

Sheng Ning didn’t offer to contribute. After all, this was her man. She belonged to him, so it wasn’t excessive for him to pay.

With that thought, she decided to step outside for some fresh air. Xu Qigang was inside settling the account.

“Captain Xu, is she really your wife?” The proprietress pulled Xu Qigang aside and asked curiously, “Where did you find such a beautiful wife?”

“Really, did you buy her or something?” The Boss joined in the questioning.

In the countryside now, many men couldn’t find wives, and the older they got, the more they would spend money in remote areas to buy a wife to carry on the family lineage.

Though Captain Xu might look a bit intimidating, he was definitely a real man, and his conditions weren’t bad. It was possible he could have bought a wife.

Xu Qigang’s handsome face darkened immediately, a brooding anger enveloping him. He thought about the five thousand yuan he had paid off for Xiao Ning, something that must never be revealed, especially not to Xiao Ning.

That girl had a strong sense of pride. If she found out that he had already paid off the five thousand yuan for her, she might very well turn against him.

And if this rumor got out, surely there would be idle talk.

“Stop talking nonsense!” Having known them for so many years, this was the first time Xu Qigang had lost his temper in front of a friend’s elders, frightening the couple to the point of quivering.
