Chapter 271: Chapter 276: A Person’s Brother
“Here he comes!” Sheng Ning wiped the sweat from her brow and ran out. “Where is he?” Qigang had mentioned over the phone the day before yesterday that he was coming back. It must be him, right?
The thought of Qigang made Sheng Ning’s heart pound wildly, her hand pressing over her chest as if it might burst out.
Having not seen him for just a few days felt like an eternity. She kept busy with training during the day, but at night she couldn’t control her thoughts drifting to him.
Qigang had that kind of charm that made women think about him uncontrollably, letting their minds wander into fantasy.
Sheng Ning covered her burning cheeks with her hands, blushing to herself.
“He’s waiting outside for you!”
“Great! Thank you!” Upon hearing this, Sheng Ning quickly headed toward the General Union’s main entrance. The howling winter wind blew against her face but did nothing to cool her boiling heartbeat.
As she stepped outside, she saw from a distance a jeep parked by the roadside and a tall, striking figure smoking beside it. The background seemed somewhat lonely, yet incredibly captivating.
Her steps involuntarily halted as she greedily gazed at his silhouette, transfixed and standing still in her tracks.
Qigang, with his frighteningly sharp senses, felt someone approaching even before Sheng Ning got close. He stubbed out his half-smoked cigarette on the ground and turned around.
Their eyes met in the air, and Sheng Ning fell into his deep gaze, taking a while to come back to her senses.
“Come here!” Qigang beckoned with his hand.
“Oh!” Sheng Ning walked over to Qigang, somewhat foolishly, and only when she smelled the faint scent of tobacco on him did she snap out of it.
“Qigang…” Sheng Ning tried to speak but was interrupted by Qigang.
“Have you eaten yet?”
“Not yet… Qigang…”
“Then get in the car, let’s have a meal together. I haven’t eaten either!”
“Oh!” So, Sheng Ning once again found herself led by the nose, got into the car, and only realized how silly she had been when they reached their destination.
A handsome man can overthrow a nation, the ancients truly did not deceive me!
Qigang chose a noodle house fairly far from the General Union, about a twenty-minute drive. The restaurant owners, an old couple, made their living from this small noodle house.
Qigang was quite familiar with the Boss, seemingly a regular customer.
“Captain Xu, you’ve come to support our business again!” The Boss, who had some difficulty walking, especially during winter when his cold legs ached, limped forward when he saw Qigang approaching from afar.
Sheng Ning followed closely behind Qigang, like an obedient little wife.
The Boss’s wife, in her forties, stared wide-eyed at Sheng Ning.
“Captain Xu, is this your wife?” Her tone was blatantly incredulous.
Qigang pressed his lips together and nodded.
Following behind him, Sheng Ning saw his reaction and felt not anger but joy in her heart.
“So beautiful!” The Boss’s wife exclaimed repeatedly. “No wonder you’ve never cared for any beauties; it turns out you have such a gorgeous wife.”
Qigang, feeling uncomfortable, averted his gaze, his handsome face tinting with a blush.
Sheng Ning instantly felt her pores explode. She leaned close and whispered to Qigang, gripping his arm, “Who’s Meili?”
“Ahem…” Qigang coughed uncomfortably, then said expressionlessly, “A friend’s sister!”
“So she’s a ‘little brother’ to you!” Sheng Ning’s smile was sweet, yet it carried a threatening undertone.
Qigang leaned down and whispered close to her ear, “Only your ‘little brother’.” His distinctly masculine breath swept across the sensitive contours of her ear, scorching so hot that Sheng Ning’s ears turned red, feeling as though a current surged through her body.
