Chapter 751: Chapter 751: So concerned about him?
Abigail wasn’t fond of Joshua Piers, but considering she accepted his favor, she couldn’t give him a cold face. Holding the painting in her arms, Abigail politely thanked and bid farewell.
“Abigail, ride in my car.”
“Abby, let me take you.”
Brandon Piers and Benjamin Jones spoke at the same time when they saw Abigail was leaving.
Abigail replied, “…”
Joshua Piers raised an eyebrow and joined in, “Miss Green, if you don’t mind, I can give you a ride.”
After he spoke, Brandon Piers and Benjamin Jones shot him a dangerous look, but Joshua just shrugged nonchalantly.
Abigail looked at the men and forcefully smiled. “No need, Hughes, hurry up.”
Finishing her words, Abigail ran like she was being chased by wolves, jumped into Hughes’s car, and quickly waved her hand vigorously at the three men outside who had yet to react. “Goodbye, goodbye!”
She never wanted to see this kind of situation again.
After waving, Abigail quickly instructed Hughes, “Drive.”
Hughes glanced at the three exceptionally handsome and dignified men outside and caught Abigail holding her chest and shaking her head from the corner of his eye. He sighed quietly, thinking that if he hadn’t been misled by Ruby Green, maybe he would be the one by Abigail’s side now.
But there were no “if”s in life.
Before Abigail noticed, Hughes retracted his gaze and casually said, “Abigail, Ruby Green’s sentence has been handed down. For kidnapping and attempted murder, plus past offenses, she got twenty-three years. Her father received a similar sentence.”
“Mm.” Abigail almost forgot about Ruby Green’s trial. She wasn’t surprised at the result.
Brandon Piers would never give Ruby Green another chance to hurt her.
Regarding those sorted past events, they seemed difficult at the time, but looking back now, even though she was hurt, she was also fortunate.
Lowering her head, Abigail gently touched the painting in her hand. She didn’t know she looked like this during her surgery. It felt like she was seeing her past life.
Because of this painting, Abigail’s impression of Joshua Piers slightly improved. Yet, the biggest headache for her today was Benjamin Jones.
He was always so aloof, like an old man since childhood, rarely around women. When Abigail was in college, he already worked, and there were always rumors about him liking men.
She could never see it.
Suddenly being confessed to made Abigail feel overwhelmed.
She couldn’t help but wonder if she had done something to mislead him recently. After thinking carefully, their interactions were normal friendly exchanges.
It seemed okay when she didn’t know. Now knowing it troubled her about how to interact with Benjamin Jones in the future.
She had never experienced this before.
Too close was inappropriate, too distant might hurt the relationship.
While she was bewildered, they arrived at the research lab. Abigail set aside her chaotic emotions and re-entered the lab.
With the competition approaching, Abigail focused entirely on her research, quickly pushing aside any emotional concerns. Before she realized it, it was time to go abroad.
Aunt Claudia had prepared her luggage early on, still worrying incessantly on the side.
Abigail, reluctant to part with Teddy, kissed him repeatedly. Even though the competition would only be a week, for Abigail, who needed to kiss her little one every day, it was genuinely hard to leave.
“Abigail, you’ll miss your flight if you wait any longer.” Hughes stood by, softly reminding her.
Abigail mumbled an acknowledgment, walking out reluctantly. Teddy, thinking his mom was just leaving for the day as usual, waved his little hands energetically, “Bye-bye, Mama.”
Seeing her son’s enthusiastic waving, Abigail felt both heartache and amusement. Resolutely, she stepped out of the yard, only to run into Benjamin Jones.
Since his unintended confession after clashing with Brandon Piers last time, Abigail hadn’t intentionally kept her distance, but she had been so busy at the lab that they hadn’t spoken properly.
Now it was evident he was waiting for her.
“Benjamin.” When she saw the handsome and serious Benjamin in front of her, Abigail’s voice was filled with guilt.
Benjamin noticed her expression and gently ruffled her hair, “What does this guilty look mean?”
“I…”
“Enough. I know you see me as a brother. Don’t overthink about what happened last time. If I really couldn’t bear it, why would I wait until now? If I liked you back when you were Abigail, I would’ve already done something.” Over the past half month, Benjamin knew Abigail was busy but also unsure of how to face him.
Instead of making things difficult for her, he decided to take the first step.
Abigail, still feeling guilty, raised her head in confusion at his words, “Re…really?”
Realizing how foolish she might seem, she blushed. Benjamin clearly just wanted to give her an out; she took it seriously and even questioned it, feeling even more embarrassed.
Benjamin shook his head helplessly, “Yes. So cheer up, do your best, and come back victorious.”
“Okay.” Abigail lifted her head, determined not to disappoint him, and brightly responded.
Seeing a trace of fondness on his perpetually stern face, Benjamin smiled slightly, “That’s better.”
Abigail scratched her head in embarrassment, “Then, I’m leaving now.”
“Mm.” Benjamin wanted to see her off but stopped himself, respecting her space since Brandon Piers was nearby.
Abigail felt a sense of relief, waved at Benjamin, and then noticed Brandon Piers standing a bit further.
Brandon appreciated Benjamin’s tact but wasn’t one to back down. Stepping forward, he firmly grasped Abigail’s hand. “I’ll take you to the airport. I’ll come back later to pick Teddy up.”
Having been engrossed in her work, not seeing Benjamin much, Abigail found herself awkwardly complying when Brandon’s sudden, dominating gesture led her to his car. Glancing back at Benjamin, she saw him walking towards his villa, leaving only his tall, unwavering silhouette.
Oddly, Abigail felt relieved.
Brandon noticed Abigail’s reaction and his mood turned sour, “You care about him that much?”
“Huh?” Abigail, lost in her thoughts, didn’t catch his words and looked back at the man beside her, appearing puzzled.
Brandon, meeting her blank look, couldn’t resist. Her unadorned, fair face wasn’t the trendy small face but rather a plump oval. Even though she had lost weight, her face still appeared soft. Seeing her slightly open lips, he couldn’t hold back and kissed her.
