Chapter 1435: Chapter 1407: Familiar Faces Everywhere
Kiara originally wanted to maintain her pride, but seeing him speak so passionately, she couldn’t bear it in her heart anymore.
Yes, they were a couple who spent more time apart than together, so why spend so much time squabbling with him over trivial matters? As her heart softened, she let Mario Yuno play with their daughter. It didn’t take long before the child fell fast asleep.
Being enlightened is one thing, but reality is another. Perpetually fleeting moments of togetherness inevitably led to a sense of loss. Kiara adjusted her mindset and, seeing her child asleep, didn’t wake her, instead she tidied up the luggage.
Annoying guy… coming and going without a trace, she had no idea when such days would come to an end. Kiara felt a surge of irritability.
This mood continued until Farmbright Farmer came to pick her up.
“Mrs. Kiara~” Aka greeted Kiara cheerfully with a wave.
“Aka?” Kiara was a bit surprised, as she hadn’t received a message that Aka would be coming along.
“The Boss said I’m mainly responsible for Wendy’s safety this time. Starting now, I’m Wendy Baby’s exclusive bodyguard~”
Kiara glanced at her daughter in her arms. This time, during her trip abroad for a competition, the Young Aunt from home had come along, just in case Wendy needed care while she was busy at work. She hadn’t expected her dad to also bring Aka along. Such a grand gesture made Mrs. Kiara feel somewhat embarrassed.
“Isn’t this too much trouble for you all? I’ve checked the schedule; aside from the competition, I have plenty of personal time. There’s really no need for so many people to follow me, right?”
“Trust me, you’ll need it,” Aka said with a mysterious wink, leaving Kiara puzzled.
Yuzo Joel took great care of Kiara indeed – arranging every little detail for his daughter and granddaughter’s trip to minimize their fatigue from the long journey, from food to personnel. Wendy fell asleep soon after boarding the plane, and as Kiara gazed at the clouds outside the window, she thought of Mario Yuno and felt a surge of inexplicable anger.
Heartless thing.
He wasn’t even as considerate as her own dad. She was taking her daughter to a faraway place, and he couldn’t even bother to make a phone call? Was he so busy that he couldn’t spare the time to call or send a text?
As she saw Aka on the phone with Zoel Cohen continuously until boarding the plane, Kiara’s resentment grew stronger.
She even pondered in front of the mirror; was it that she had lost her charm as she aged, or was it that after being together for so long that the seven-year itch had made him care less about her?
Once obtained, it gets taken for granted. A peaceful life becomes too uneventful; ease of access leads to a lack of appreciation.
Full of negative energy.
Kiara brooded over these thoughts until, without realizing it, she felt sleepy.
The two countries were close neighbors; the journey was merely a few hours. After sleeping for a while, Kiara woke up just in time.
The climate here was warmer than back in the Domestic Region; this month was the rainy season with average temperatures around 30degC. The hot and humid weather was no challenge for Kiara, who grew up by the Seaside, but Farmbright found it quite unbearable.
Every time he came here, he ended up with rashes. This time, he only came because the Old Man strongly insisted.
Fortunately, when they arrived, it wasn’t raining; Wendy woke up as soon as they got off the plane, her eyes wide with curiosity, showing no signs of fatigue.
This was Kiara’s first trip abroad after her rebirth, and it was a pity that the place she came to wasn’t particularly developed. Also, her irritation with Mario Yuno meant she wasn’t in the best of moods. She sat in the car, passively viewing the exotic scenery passing by without a word. Wendy, in contrast, was very interested in what she saw Outside; she pointed at the odd-shaped buildings and babbled. Aka, good-natured as ever, explained to her regardless of whether the child understood.
There were some street stalls on the roadside that looked quite intriguing, but Kiara had no desire to try them out as she wasn’t confident about her digestive system’s strength. Even Aka, usually such a foodie, showed remarkable restraint today. However, while she controlled her desires, her eyes kept drifting Outside, betraying her food-loving nature.
“Mrs. Kiara, did you see that thing over there, the one that’s dark and looks like Pig Large Intestine? It’s actually a small cake made from black and white glutinous rice. And over there, they’re selling fried banana slices. Oh, have you tried that, Uncle Boya?”
“If you want to eat, let’s stop the car and buy some.” Kiara felt her ears were practically calloused from all of Aka’s nagging; the girl was just too fond of eating.
“No way, the Boss said my mission this time is to look after our little Wendy, not a step away!”
“What does eating have to do with staying close by?” Kiara asked, confused.
“She’s got the mouth of Piggy and the stomach of Evelyn Johnson; if she eats today, she’ll surely have diarrhea tomorrow.” Farmbright explained on behalf of Aka.
“A responsible bodyguard won’t let a meal or two get in the way of duty,” Aka nodded to herself as if hypnotizing, emphasizing that she was a responsible bodyguard.
Yet, within two seconds, she couldn’t help but turn her head back, staring through the glass drooling.
“That cold noodle dish looks—-!”
“Such a piggy Baby!” Farmbright scolded, knocking on her head, knowing she would react like that.
Aka stubbornly maintained her cover when her secret craving was exposed.
“Not at all, I’m not drooling. I’m just admiring that the noodle seller girl is so pretty. The land here nurtures beauty, huh? Even a random stall attendant looks amazing, complemented by a long dress showcasing the exotic charm and grace.”
Kiara casually glanced in the direction Aka had mentioned. Though they were already some distance away, she only caught a glimpse of a side profile.
From afar, she could only spot a swaying braid, just a silhouette, and yet it mysteriously struck Kiara as familiar.
Unfortunately, the car had passed by, and when she wanted to have another look, it was already too far away.
Only then did Kiara refocus. She must be out of sorts emotionally due to Camden’s influence. Being in a foreign land, how could she encounter someone she knew?
Yet, this thought was about to be overturned very soon. In fact, there were countless familiar faces here, shockingly familiar ones!
