Chapter 30: Wererats

Her idea was good, and she had executed her plan well. Except that Reese hadn’t followed the script.

Reese still had no idea that Keri was also here, separated by just a wall. She only looked at the wererats in front of her, who did not have any strength to stand up, only moving their mouths while chattering in a language she did not understand.

The Universal Galaxy had its own galactic language. Most races used the galactic language, but each race also had its own language. These two wererats were obviously speaking in their own language, so Reese could not understand them, and even Keri on the other side of the wall could not make out their
wails either.

Typically, only the stronger races did such things—attacking people, be it for money or for lust. The rat species had excellent reproductive abilities, but they were not very strong in terms of physical strength. They were only slightly stronger than humans, or even weaker than some stronger human
males.

However, according to Reese’s assessment, these two wererats definitely seemed like they could overpower her.
Fortunately, she had saved a trick up her sleeve from the last time.

And it actually saved her life this time! Still, she would need to go to the pharmacy again, and get some more medicine to protect herself.

After listening from the corner of the wall for a while, Keri left, leaving the lowly wererats inside to bully Reese however they pleased.

Meanwhile, the effect of the drug that Reese had just given the two wererats actually did not have very long-lasting effects. It only made them temporarily weak, giving her just about enough time to leave this place and seek help.

However, because of Keri, Reese did not dare to simply leave to get help. What if Keri released the wererats after she left, leaving her without any proof? Then she would have yet another enemy out there, and the guards would have made a wasted trip. If something really happened in the future, it would
be difficult to get their help again.

Just as she was anxiously trying to decide whether to leave and look for the guards or to stay here and create a commotion that would attract help, she thought of what King had told her previously.
“The hospital management felt that the murderer is someone among the patients, so they have increased patrols…”
Increased patrols

Reese tore her clothes into a mess so that it looked like she had been bullied badly. Then, she picked up a disinfectant bottle and walked out towards the window.

She looked around for the patrol team downstairs, but there was no sign of them, Helpless, she could only look at the camera for help, hoping that the guard in the surveillance room would realize that she was asking for help.

She was taking a gamble, between the increased patrol rounds that King had mentioned, and the amount of time that the drugs would stay effective for the wererats.

Their wails were growing louder, and Reese’s heart sank.

It would be difficult for her to deal with them alone. She was afraid that once the effects of the medicine wore off, those two wererats would kill her.

For now, she could only run first!

Just as Reese was already getting ready to leave, she saw a team of men clearly dressed in patrol uniforms and armed with guns. She did some calculations—if she used enough strength, she would be able to fling the bottle near them and attract their attention.
Hence, she took two steps back, then sprinted forward, flinging the bottle of disinfectant far away with a swing of her arm. Unfortunately, the patrol team had their backs to her, so they could not see her actions or hear her cries for help.

But thankfully, the bottle made a loud noise when it hit the ground, and then rolled slowly toward the patrol guards.

The patrol team seemed to be startled by the sound behind them, as all of them tured around and pointed their guns at the window.

Reese was overjoyed when she saw them turning around, as this meant that she would most probably be able to get saved.

“Save me!” She shouted loudly, but they did not hear her clearly. A few werebeasts gripped their guns and prepared to go closer, to hear what this human who had attacked them with a disinfectant bottle had to say about what she was trying to do.

At this moment, danger emerged.

The effects of the medicinal powder on the wererats had worn off. They were trembling so badly but could still manage to stand up. In order to conserve their energy, they did not say another word.

Meanwhile, Reese’s attention had been on the patrol team downstairs this whole time. She thought that the wererats were still going to be under the drug’s effects for a while longer, and did not expect them to be able to move so quickly.

Right when the patrol team was watching her, she let out a shriek. A hand had appeared on her shoulder, and its sharp claws could be identified as non-human even from a far distance.

She struggled but to no avail, as she was dragged away from the window in just a short second. The patrol team downstairs could not see or hear anything that was happening inside, away from the window.

This moming, the team leader had already been scolded because of the surveillance footage. He did not anticipate that there would even be werebeasts who dared to cause trouble right under his nose right now.

“Let’s go look for her!” The leader ordered and led the others into the building looking for her. At the same time, he took out a small remote control from his waist and pressed a few buttons on it. Immediately, alarms were sounded from the nearby buildings.
Almost everyone put down whatever they had on hand, and tried to figure out the location of the emergency.

Meanwhile, King had just been feeling an inexplicable sense of fear, and he was now in the surveillance control room. He saw that Reese’s clothes were in a mess and she looked like she was crying for help. He also saw that a werebeast’s paw had suddenly reached out, pulling her backward and out of the
area monitored by the cameras. Upon seeing this, a blood-red glow flashed across King’s dark eyes..
