Chapter 55: I Miss Mother

Su Ran continued to crucify Wushuang.

“Alright, Ranran. You can stay if you want, but I don’t wish to hear about it anymore. Working at Chenyu was never about money. Throughout these two years of grinding, I’ve learned so much. If I was always out gallivanting with you, would I have achieved as much as I did? Moreover, it was Grandfather who got me a recommendation to intern at Chenyu. I can’t let him lose face.”

“You’re just saying that I don’t engage in honest work and have no initiative, and that you strive to become the benchmark for the next generation of women.”

Wushuang took Su Ran’s hand. “Ranran, don’t mock me. Others may not understand why I’m so eager, but you? You of all people should understand my situation. Not everyone was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.”

“That’s nonsense. Your family background isn’t much different from mine. If it weren’t for that b*tch Xia Ziwei…”

“It’s not her, Ranran,” Wushuang earnestly interrupted her, “you still don’t understand. In terms of material possessions, you and I possess the same things. I wouldn’t feel jealous even if I don’t have it, and I’d work for it with my own two hands, too. However, what I envy is that you grew up with the love and care of your parents. You have a complete family, which I don’t.”

“Okay, okay… I know. I envy you too. You’re more good looking, better at studies, more talented than I am. Even these are bigger than mine.” Su Ran cheekily pinched at Wushuang’s twin peaks.

Wushuang swatted Su Ran’s hand away and dodged, and both of them squealed away. Su Ran then continued, “You know, my parents love you so much. I wish you were their daughter. Who’d want such nagging ancient living fossils?”

“I don’t even have a family to nag me.”

“Am I not naggy enough?”

“You’re exempted.”

“Is there still no word from Aunt Xia?” Su Ran thought of Wushuang’s majestic artist mother who wandered all over the world.

Wushuang shook her head, a hint of sadness flashed across her clear black eyes. “I haven’t heard from her for almost half a year. I’ve almost forgotten what she looked like.”

“You know what, Shuangshuang? Isn’t it our greatest wish to see our parents live a happy life? Shouldn’t we be happy that Aunt Xia can live such a carefree life?”

Wushuang sighed and laid her head on Su Ran’s shoulders. “But I miss her.”

Su Ran was at a loss for words.

Su Ran patted Wushuang’s back and said nothing. Her parents had always been by her side and nagged her every day. She wished to leave the nest someday and soar far wide, away from them.

Perhaps this was one of humanity’s most inferior qualities; taking things for granted and regretting only when it was lost.

As she needed three consecutive days of intravenous therapy., Wushuang had to take another day off.

On the morning of the fourth day, Wushuang was discharged from the hospital and returned to her apartment to recuperate.

She called Aunt Wu early in the morning and told her there was no need to come over anymore.

Aunt Wu adored this delicately sweet and charming girl. She insisted on coming to take care of Wushuang on grounds that she lived alone and her meals were unhealthy. She could not break off of Aunt Wu and therefore handed over the address of her apartment.

Su Ran had gone back in the morning on the next day but came to visit her from time to time. She was shocked when she met Aunt Wu for the first time. After Wushuang explained, Su Ran’s grievances toward Mu Jinchen lessened significantly. At least he knew to find a trustworthy person to take care of Wushuang.
