Chapter 480: Chapter 479: Yaya’s First Meeting with Shao’s Mother
“Zifeng, Qiqi, Lingling… time to eat,” Shao’s mother said as she set the food on the table, wiping her hands on her apron. “Don’t forget to bring over the stools too.”
Shao Zifeng sauntered over with a grin, “Mom, not mad anymore?”
“You’re the City Guardian, how dare I be mad at you,” his mother glanced back at him. “Go wash your hands.”
“Sure thing.”
Since the living room of Shao Zifeng’s small house wasn’t spacious, they had decided to have the meal in the yard.
Qiqi hopped onto the dining table first, her deep blue eyes locked onto the braised pork ribs, her pink tongue incessantly licking her lips.
After washing his hands, Lingling, the little brown-noser, carried a small stool over to Shao’s mother to show off.
The last to come out was the Chasing Moon Dog, holding its food bowl in its mouth, setting it on the ground, tilting its head to look at the food on the table, its long tail swaying back and forth.
“Lingling is such a good child. Tell Mom what you’d like to eat, and I’ll make it for you tomorrow.”
Shao’s mother picked up a piece of braised pork rib, but as she turned around, the smile on her face froze.
Lingling blinked her big eyes.
The atmosphere turned a bit awkward as they looked at each other.
Shao Yuying put her chopsticks on her bowl, turning to whisper, “Zifeng, how does this child usually eat? I see it…”
Perhaps fearing that being direct might hurt Lingling’s self-esteem, she stopped herself and gestured to her mouth with her finger.
“Mom, you eat first, don’t worry about it.”
Zifeng, trying not to laugh, beckoned to the innocent-looking Lingling, then turned to receive a small milk basin from the deer.
He took out two Wood Elemental Energy Potions from his backpack, opened them, poured them into the milk basin and pushed it towards the deer, “Eat up.”
“Yo~”
“Thank you, Duke~”
Shao Yuying added two ribs to Qiqi’s bowl, then glanced over curiously.
She saw Lingling and the deer gently suck in, and the green liquid in the small milk basin visibly vaporized, leaving only some residue and clear water on the basin’s bottom.
“So full~”
Lingling patted her little stomach contentedly and flew next to Shao’s mother, tugging her clothes, “Mommy, Lingling is full~”
“Oh, good girl, Lingling,” Shao’s mother touched Lingling’s small head absently, the smile on her face somewhat forced. Although she was just an ordinary person, she knew what they were eating.
A meal and two high-level Energy Potions, she wondered if her son could afford it.
Thinking this, Shao Yuying suddenly didn’t find Lingling and the deer as cute anymore.
Seeing that his mother hadn’t moved for a while, Shao Zifeng waved his hand in front of her.
“Mom, what are you thinking?”
“Oh, nothing, I just spaced out for a moment,” Shao Yuying said, looking at Shao Zifeng with pity, always feeling that her son had lost weight. “You eat up, tell Mom what you want, I’ll make it for you tonight.”
As she spoke, she continuously filled Shao Zifeng’s bowl with meat.
Shao Zifeng looked at his mother quizzically, suddenly remembering something, “Oh right, I forgot to tell you, I’ve got another pet.”
Shao Yuying managed a forced smile, “Oh… really… haha.”
“Yep, it’s called Yaya.” As soon as Shao Zifeng finished, he waved his hand, and a Space Rift slowly opened.
A grey-white elemental halo surrounded a rock-covered claw that touched the ground, shaking the small yard slightly.
Yaya stood in the courtyard, its gaze directed at Shao Yuying.
Click!
A crisp sound was heard as two chopsticks fell to the ground.
Shao’s mother stared blankly at the enormous creature before her, forgetting the fear of facing a mutant creature, and rapidly calculating in her mind how much it would eat in a day, her heart growing colder the more she thought.
With Yaya’s appearance, the other creatures in the courtyard also panicked.
The Chasing Moon Dog didn’t care about the meal anymore and quickly positioned itself in front of Shao’s mother.
Its two trembling front paws were spread apart, its low body covered in bristling fur, baring its teeth and emitting a low growl as a warning,
The little ones in the eastern wall cage fared even worse, huddling in the corners with their heads in their arms, shivering, not daring to even show their tails.
“Gurgle…” Yaya curiously looked at the Chasing Moon Dog and took a step forward.
“Woo!”
The Chasing Moon Dog, backed into a corner, tensed its muscles, ready to attack at any moment.
At that moment, Shao Zifeng appeared in front of it, and the Chasing Moon Dog, feeling a surge of panic, thought of tugging at his pant leg.
“Don’t be afraid, this is Yaya, also my partner,” Shao Zifeng bent down to pat its large head. He was very satisfied with the Chasing Moon Dog’s behavior just now, loyal to its master even without a contract.
The Chasing Moon Dog looked at Shao Zifeng, then at Yaya, and its raised fur slowly settled.
Shao Zifeng stood up and looked towards Yaya.
“Yaya, did you miss me?”
“Gurgle~”
Yaya made a low throaty sound, cautiously grabbed Shao Zifeng’s clothes with its forelimbs, and rubbed its head against his face.
After calming the little one down, Shao Zifeng introduced it to his daydreaming mother, “Mom, this is Yaya. Don’t let his size fool you, he’s still just a child.”
“Oh.”
Shao Yuying snapped back to reality. She had been concerned earlier about whether Shao Zifeng could support this big fellow and had not noticed until now. Seeing the fierce-looking Yaya, she subconsciously felt some fear and didn’t know what to say for a moment.
“Gurgle?”
Yaya tilted its head, its amber vertical pupils looking at Shao Zifeng.
Shao Zifeng whispered, “This is my mom.”
“Gurgle.”
Yaya looked gently at Shao Yuying, slowly lowered its body to the ground, making itself slightly shorter than Shao Yuying, which made its presence less intimidating.
Seeing his somewhat timid mother, Shao Zifeng encouraged, “Mom, Yaya is a very gentle child, it’s okay.”
Shao’s mother took a deep breath, gathered her courage, and slowly extended her hand.
The feel of the rock was rough, but it wasn’t as cold as it looked; instead, it was somewhat warm.
“Gurgle~”
Yaya squinted its eyes, rubbing gently against her hand.
Shao’s mother was startled and quickly withdrew her hand.
“Gur.” Yaya, seeing this, drooped its head in disappointment.
“Zifeng, this is…” Shao’s mother, seeing its expression, was a bit at a loss.
“Yaya has been motherless since he was a baby, so this child is a bit more sensitive than other pets, so…”
“If mom is scared, I can take him back.”
Shao Zifeng felt somewhat helpless. In his heart, his own mom was fearless, never uttering a word of fear from childhood to adulthood. He had not expected her to be startled by Lingling today and now show fear towards Yaya.
“No need.” hearing Shao Zifeng’s words, Shao’s mother looked at Yaya with a hint of pity in her eyes, “Yaya?”
“Gurgle~”
Yaya opened its eyes and looked at her.
“I didn’t mean to do that earlier,” Shao’s mother crouched down and patted its large head, “You really are a good child.”
Seeing this scene, a smile appeared at the corner of Shao Zifeng’s mouth. In his heart, besides his mother and Qiqi, these pets were also very important.
Seeing them live together peacefully was just wonderful.
If only Qiuqiu were here as well, he thought his mom would surely like this little guy.
Unfortunately, both times he had come home, it was precisely during its evolution.
Perhaps this was just Qiuqiu’s fate.
