Chapter 470: Chapter 469: The Eldest Miss’s Injury
“I’ll kill you, I’ll kill you!!”
In the quaint and elegant room, sandalwood incense wafted through the air, and the shadow of an orchid on a high stool was reflected on the snow-white wall.
Li Fangyan’s brows were tightly knotted, and she lay on the carved wooden bed with her eyes firmly shut. Her beautiful face was covered in sweat, and her hands waved wildly as she muttered incoherently. Room temperature kept rising, originating from her right hand which resembled a withered claw.
Carbonized fragments on her hand crumbled and fell off with her movements, looking incredibly horrifying.
“Miss, Miss, please wake up,” the elderly maid said helplessly as she wanted to stop her but didn’t dare to approach, “Where is the doctor, why hasn’t the doctor arrived yet!”
Clang.
The carved wooden door was pushed open forcefully, and a burst of cool air made the candlelight inside flicker, reducing the temperature significantly.
An elderly man dressed in a broad Han outfit walked briskly with several people.
“Master,” the old maid quickly bowed in greeting.
The elder waved his hand and said in a deep voice, “How is Fangyan.”
“The Miss, she, she…” the old maid showed a troubled expression.
The elder brushed past her and walked to the bed, his gaze drawn to Li Fangyan’s hand, his facial muscles twitching slightly.
Li Fengting said in a low voice in Korean, “Doctor Tang, thank you for your effort.”
Doctor Tang nodded slightly and skillfully opened his medical kit to prepare the injection, “Lulu.”
“Pup~”
Healing Lulu jumped from the doctor’s shoulder onto the bed.
It looked fearfully at Li Fangyan’s right hand, then gathered courage and extended two thin vines from underneath its thick leaves, wrapping around Li Fangyan’s wildly flailing hands.
“Pup pup, pup pup!”
As Doctor Tang was about to inject her, Healing Lulu’s cries of panic rang out.
The people looked in its direction and saw violet-red elemental particles suddenly emitting from Li Fangyan’s shriveled hand. The particles crawled up the vines, frightening Healing Lulu who waved its short arms frantically.
Just as it was about to dodge, Doctor Tang’s voice rang out, “Lulu, absorb!”
“Pup pup!”
Healing Lulu gritted its teeth, and its thin vines pierced into Li Fangyan’s skin instantaneously. The violet-red elemental particles stopped spreading, visibly turning its thick leaves a violet-red color.
Thud.
The thick violet-red leaves fell to the ground and immediately burst into raging flames, entirely burning the leaf to ash in an instant.
Doctor Tang looked at the elder and gritted his teeth, “Continue.”
One leaf.
Two leaves.
As time slowly passed, the leaves on Healing Lulu rapidly diminished, and its vitality visibly wilted.
Doctor Tang’s eyes showed a look of distress, not only for Healing Lulu but also for those leaves.
As the most commonly used healing mutant creature on Earth, aside from its unique sewing technique, what made it most beloved by Beast Doctors was the transparent, thick leaves. These leaves stored medicine or toxins personally mixed by Beast Doctors, encapsulating each regular Beast Doctor’s youth and initial aspirations.
For Healing Lulu, absorption was a double-edged sword.
If it absorbed substances it could tolerate, its strength could rapidly enhance, also greatly improving its healing and self-preservation capabilities. But upon absorbing elemental particles its body couldn’t digest, it had no choice but to shed its leaves for self-preservation.
If it were just one or two leaves, it wouldn’t be too concerning, but too much shedding meant Healing Lulu itself was nearly ruined.
Crack!
As another leaf burned to ashes, the temperature in the room gradually decreased, and the orchid on the high stool unfolded its leaves.
Thud!
The Healing Lulu, with only two leaves left, slumped into unconsciousness, looking wilted.
“Lulu!”
Doctor Tang, holding his beast, howled in sadness in Korean, yet his gaze occasionally drifted towards the Li family father and son.
The elderly man stood expressionless in place.
Li Fengting stepped forward, helped Doctor Tang up, and said in Korean, “Doctor Tang, rest assured, my Li family will choose a high-quality healing type beast for you. Please do not be too sorrowful, ssi.”
“Thank you, thank you, Mr. Li ssi.”
Having received the promise from the Li family, the sorrow vanished from Doctor Tang’s face.
He set down the weakened Healing Lulu and efficiently administered an injection to Li Fangyan.
The furrowed brows of Li Fangyan gradually relaxed, and her breathing stabilized as well.
After administering the injection, Doctor Tang waited a moment to confirm there were no issues, then stood up, gathering his medical kit, and said, “Mr. Li, the young miss’s condition has been suppressed and she needs to rest. She will wake up after another injection in twelve hours.”
“As for the young miss’s hand, it appears it might remain as such now.” After saying this, he picked up his medical kit, not even glancing at the Healing Lulu on the floor.
Seeing the old man’s look of disgust, Qi Shu promptly bowed down, “Doctor Tang, please.”
After sending away the unrelated people, Qi Shu returned to the room and respectfully said to the elderly man, “Master.”
“Hmm.” The elderly man bent down, picked up the Healing Lulu, and handed it to Qi Shu, “People of a small nation, the Korean doctor truly has talent but lacks virtue. To gain small benefits, he actually abandoned the beast that had accompanied him for many years.”
“Little Qi, take Healing Lulu to the family’s beast sanatorium. It became like this while saving Fangyan. Instruct the staff there to take good care of it.”
“Yes.”
After Qi Shu departed carrying it, the ornately carved wooden door closed behind him.
The elderly man sat beside the carved wooden bed, gently brushing away the hair sticking to Li Fangyan’s face.
Li Fengting and Li Taixuan, uncle and nephew, kept their heads bowed, not daring to breathe. Everyone in the Li family knew that he cherished Li Fangyan the most of all his grandchildren; seeing his beloved granddaughter injured like this, no one could know how furious he was beneath his calm exterior.
“Second child.” The aged voice echoed in the room, “Do you owe me an explanation?”
“Father, I…” Li Fengting trembled, “Father, grant me a few days–I will bring those who harmed Fangyan to you to face the consequences.”
“Fool!”
The candles flickered as the elderly man suddenly raised his head, his gaze sharp as he stared at Li Fengting.
“You have disappointed me greatly. I thought that you had improved over the years and therefore handed the Li family to you. Is this how you handle things?” The elder’s beard bristled, his voice barely containing his anger.
“I seek father’s guidance.”
Li Fengting thudded to his knees, and Li Taixuan blinked and also knelt down.
“The ancient ancestors of our nation said, ‘Misfortune and fortune enter through no gate; they are summoned by men themselves. The result of good and evil is like a shadow following a form.’ Do you understand this?” The elder stood up before them, speaking to himself, “I am pained by the misfortune Fangyan has suffered, but in human interactions, besides being humble and observing propriety, one must ‘seek out the causes and strive for the essence.'”
“If this misfortune is not Fangyan’s fault, I naturally agree with your methods. However, if it is her fault, even if she is my granddaughter, she should not be indulged.” He said, looking at Li Fengting, “Do you understand the reasoning?”
“Father’s teaching is correct; I will investigate immediately.”
With that, Li Fengting hurriedly left.
