Chapter 458: Chapter 457: A Qiu Arrives (Supplementary Update)
Boom!
A billboard ablaze with green fire plummeted from the sky, its steel frame cracking the concrete pavement upon impact.
Screech–
Amid the piercing sound of brakes, a private car skidded sharply and came to a stop just in front of the billboard.
The driver was pulled back into his seat by the seatbelt, his hands shaking slightly as he gripped the steering wheel.
Beep beep.
With the road ahead blocked, a multitude of private cars frantically honked their horns and stopped, lights flashing.
The man, his face pale, seemed oblivious as he struggled to climb out of the car, supporting himself on the door.
Staring at the unquenchable eerie green flames around him and the green dragon swirling in the night sky, his expression became dazed.
The sounds of car horns, curses, screams, explosions–all mixed together, accompanied by the distant glow of explosions.
All of it felt like the end of the world.
Although often seen on the news which cities were attacked, the reality of it happening here brought an unreal sensation.
Suddenly, as if remembering something,
he stumbled and crawled to the passenger side, opened the door, and pulled out his shivering wife into his arms, his chin resting on her head as he whispered reassuringly, “Don’t be scared, I’m here, I’m here!”
The woman, dazed, clutched the back of her husband’s shirt tightly and suddenly burst into loud cries, “Husband, I’m scared.”
“Don’t be scared, the Abnormal Administration Bureau will come to save us, they will…”
As he spoke, the man looked blankly at the apocalyptic scene before him, his gaze lost.
“Woof woof!”
Just then, a monster enveloped in green flames squeezed out from the edge of the billboard.
Everyone showed a look of terror, their bodies trembling as they continuously backed away. Several men hastily grabbed whatever they could, placing women and children behind them, their faces fierce as they tried to drive away the monster.
“Arresting dog, it’s an arresting dog!”
Someone in the crowd recognized the mutant creature wrapped in flames and cried out in relief.
The presence of the arresting dog meant that the Abnormal Administration Bureau was nearby–they were saved!
“Woof!”
The arresting dog barked at the people, turned around, and wagged its tail to signal them to follow.
Then the arresting dog, with its body low, charged towards the billboard.
Boom!
The billboard fell with a grating crunch, lifting a vast swath of green flames into the air.
The crowd followed closely behind the arresting dog towards safety.
The woman leaned into her husband’s embrace, absentmindedly scratching her neck, “Husband, suddenly it’s so itchy.”
As she spoke, she looked up, and her pupils shrank suddenly.
Visible to the naked eye, her husband’s Adam’s apple was festering, oozing pus down.
Thud!
“Ahhhhhh!”
Suddenly, someone in the crowd collapsed, sparking even greater panic.
…
“Rock Barrier!”
The Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros lifted its massive head high, its legs stomping violently on the ground.
The ground of the small courtyard shuddered, the bluestone flooring instantly crumbling, the originally delicate and elegant setting completely destroyed.
At the same time, a solid rock barrier rose step by step, protecting the people behind it.
Boom!
The rock wall trembled violently, cracks crazily spreading across it, with debris continuously falling and finally shattering amidst the columns of green flames.
The courtyard was left in a hazardous state, filled with dust and smoke.
The young lady still stood in place, her beautiful eyes shimmering with green flames, her crimson lips curving into a perfect arc.
The dragon, burning with green flames, lowered its flight altitude, flapping its wings to hover mid-air, its fierce vertical pupils staring intently at everyone present.
At that moment, hundreds of uniformed figures lay scattered on the ground, twitching and moaning in agony but not dead. Tiny green flames burned on their bodies, emitting no heat. Yet, the people seemed to endure immense pain; some frantically scratched their skin, while others developed sores on their bodies.
The rest of the people and most of the mutant creatures had been deployed to rescue efforts at the outset of the chaos, leaving only a few still desperately holding on.
Long Zhan, standing in front of everyone with his Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros, looked at the scene before him and felt a surge of relief. Fortunately, he had arrived in time, or else…
Just then, a figure emerged from the half-collapsed building; it was unmistakably Han Jiugong.
He stared at the hellish scene, his lips tightly pursed. He could hardly believe that a foolproof plan had gone awry; indeed, even the most perfect strategies crumble before absolute power.
“Mayor Han,”
When Long Zhan saw Han Jiugong emerge, his heart skipped a beat. He wanted to step forward to intervene, but Han Jiugong gestured with his hand to stop him.
Han Jiugong looked toward the tall young lady in the courtyard, his eyes locking with her green ones as he coldly said, “Publicly assembling to attack the city hall, do you really think I treat the laws of the Great Xia lightly?”
“So, you’re the mayor of Bin City.” The young lady sized up Han Jiugong, her tone cold and somewhat disdainful: “I didn’t expect that you are not a Combat Training Master.”
“Hand over that student, or I will slaughter your Bin City.”
“What arrogance!” Han Jiugong’s anger flared as he stared at the young lady, enunciating each word, “You’ll have to kill me first, let’s see if you have the guts.”
The young lady’s smile stiffened slightly, saying things like slaughtering the city was obviously just bluster.
She had expected that under her intimidating presence, Han Jiugong, a mere civilian, would have given in since the Great Xia usually protected its civilians well, and most would inherently fear facing powerful mutant creatures.
But to her surprise, Han Jiugong, a civilian, showed no fear whatsoever.
The young lady narrowed her eyes: “I know you are deliberately buying time. But before the rescue arrives, I have enough time to kill you ten times over.”
Han Jiugong said with disdain, “I, Han, am standing right here. If you have the courage, then kill me.”
The smile disappeared from the young lady’s face: “You really think I don’t dare to kill you!”
“You don’t dare!”
“You!” The young lady was furious, but soon her face broke into a radiant smile: “Right, I don’t dare to kill you outright, but I have ways to make you wish you were dead.”
“Toxic Dragon!”
“Roar!”
As her words fell, the dragon in mid-air turned its attention towards Han Jiugong, opening its fanged mouth toward him.
Its throat bulged, and a dark green flame rapidly gathered in its mouth.
Han Jiugong gazed calmly at the scene, his expression unchanged.
“Mayor Han,”
Long Zhan stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Han Jiugong. As a veteran of the Bull Armor Army, protecting others was ingrained in his blood.
The Stone-armored Giant Rhinoceros once again raised its massive head, standing upright as the earth element surged wildly beneath it.
The young lady watched this scene with interest, her stunning face showing a faint smile.
“Qiuqiu, Dragon Wings!”
Just at that moment, a piercing tearing sound suddenly filled the night sky.
A dark red streak cut through the night, unfolding a pair of wings ablaze with flames, its wingtips tearing through the air, leaving trails of vapor in straight lines.
The fully focused green dragon had no time to dodge and was heavily struck on its swollen neck by the fiery wings.
Boom! Boom!
Two explosions erupted, and the green dragon’s head was engulfed in dark red high-temperature flames.
The skill it hadn’t managed to release exploded inside its mouth.
It didn’t end there; the dark red streak traced a beautiful arc in the night sky, and the fiery dragon wings slashed the green dragon’s back once again.
“Roar–”
The pain-stricken green dragon cried out in agony.
Its body heavily smashed onto the ground, rolling and bouncing a distance before crashing into the building of the reception area.
The young lady paid no heed to her own pet creature, instead, her gaze feverishly followed the dark red streak in the sky.
