Fortunately, school hadn’t started yet, and the campus was empty. Qin Zhiyou held her, offering his shoulder for her to lean on. Lu Weixi rested her head on his shoulder and cried bitterly. Qin Zhiyou didn’t speak, just gently stroked her hair from top to bottom, as if trying to soothe her emotions, or perhaps telling her that she wouldn’t be alone in the future–he would try his best to protect her and her child.

Time seemed to have no meaning as Lu Weixi went from silent tears to loud sobbing, and then to sniffles, her mood seemingly calming down a bit. Once she had completely stabilized, Qin Zhiyou gently let her go and handed her a tissue. After she wiped her tear-streaked face clean, he said teasingly, “You were already unattractive, crying just made it worse.”

What did he mean by that! Lu Weixi exploded upon hearing this. She immediately looked up and glared at him with furrowed brows.

Qin Zhiyou, completely ignoring the tension, said, “You cry so horribly, only someone as nice as me wouldn’t mind and still stay with you.”

Lu Weixi was furious. She had been driven to tears by him, and now he was making snide remarks! She kicked out with precision, her toe connecting accurately with Qin Zhiyou’s shin. Qin Zhiyou, who had already been kicked before, now felt the pain again and quickly let go of her. Lu Weixi turned away and walked back with heavy steps.

While Qin Zhiyou held his shin, he called out to her retreating back, “Hey, what are you doing? Are you trying to murder your own husband? Wait… wait for me!”

After being kicked twice, even though Lu Weixi wasn’t wearing leather shoes, the force of her kicks was full-on, and Qin Zhiyou was truly in pain. She hurried ahead while he hobbled behind her. Lu Weixi strode out of the campus like the wind, crossed the streets, and turned back into her residential area. Qin Zhiyou trailed after her and followed her into the house.

Mother Lu saw Lu Weixi enter with a stern face and signs of tears, which startled her: “What’s wrong?”

Lu Weixi didn’t respond to her mother and headed straight for her room after changing her shoes. Qin Zhiyou, still hopping, entered the house and managed to greet with a cordial “Mom,” before he hurriedly kicked off his shoes–without even switching to slippers–and chased after her. But he was a step too late; Lu Weixi slammed the door shut right in his face.

“Xixi, Xixi, open the door,” Qin Zhiyou called out, not caring about losing face, and he quickly knocked on the door, but there was no response from inside.

Qin Zhiyou continued to knock: “Xixi, I know I was wrong. I apologize, can you open the door, please?”

Still, there was no movement inside.

It was Mother Lu who asked, “What did you do wrong?”
