Chapter 1339: Chapter 1332: Tracking (2)
After speaking, Lu Weixi blinked her eyes, pursed her lower lip, and looked at him with eyes that were the picture of grievance, pity, and helplessness, like those of a dog in need of assistance.
Qin Zhiyou and Lu’s mother had dined together before, but the occasions when all three of them crowded into the small house and ate a formal meal together were few and far between.
The dinner was ordered by Qin Zhiyou, who said it was a special nutrition meal prepared by the hotel’s head chef, considering both the needs of a pregnant woman and the dietary restrictions of a cancer patient, while also catering to their tastes.
Although Lu Weixi had been clamoring for dinner just now, she now couldn’t stand the smell of anything greasy or fishy; thus, there were no seafood, river delicacies, or fatty meats on the dining table. Aside from the absence of a raw vegetable salad, it could practically pass for a healthy slimming and fat-reduction meal.
Yet, Lu’s mother still felt stifled, finding it painful to lay even a single glance on Qin Zhiyou. She wished she had kicked this scoundrel out of the door outright; only her mind must have been out of whack to have allowed him to stay this long. Everyone finished the meal in silence, and although Lu’s mother usually went for a walk after resting in the evening, and Lu Weixi always accompanied her, with Qin Zhiyou present, he naturally took on this honorable but arduous task.
Carrying the trash that needed disposing of, Qin Zhiyou walked to the refuse station. Seeing the bedding that had yet to be dealt with, he tossed the trash beside it without changing his expression, wiped his hands with a tissue, then turned around and pretended not to have seen anything as he went back.
The old house of the Lu Family was not far from N University and naturally ended up wandering towards N University.
Lu Weixi had visited N University several times before to apply for her PhD, but each visit was a hurried affair with little time to linger. Recently, she had been walking with her mother, and although N University was not far, it was a half-hour walk away. A cancer patient didn’t have the physical stamina to match, so they would only stroll around the neighborhood, and she seldom came this way.
But this time, walking with Qin Zhiyou, it was rare for both of them to be free. The moon shone brightly, and stars peppered the sky as they walked shoulder to shoulder.
They entered through the north gate, where the area was mainly occupied by dormitory buildings for faculty and staff members, far from the teaching and living areas. With the start of the semester yet to commence, it was especially quiet. Tall gingko trees extended along both sides of the road, and the streetlights stretched their shadows long.
It occurred to them that both were alumni of N University and should, in principle, have had plenty to talk about. However, due to the absence of any fondness between them during their university days and the fact that their mutual expressions of feelings were a recent development, they had never walked here together before.
Yet, this was their alma mater, a place of study and life for them both. Even if their past memories of each other weren’t particularly pleasant, there were still many resonances between them.
Passing by the affiliated kindergarten, Lu Weixi pointed to a small garden nearby and exclaimed, “Wow, they tore down this cafeteria; I remember the window here used to sell really tasty knife-shaved noodles. Hey, they also demolished the student activity center nearby; I used to come here often to work when I was in the student union.”
Qin Zhiyou remembered too; he was two years senior to Lu Weixi and had been a notable figure since his freshman year. Even though he was no longer the president of the student union by his junior year, teachers would still frequently ask for his help. It was here that he saw his younger brother following Lu Weixi around. Back then, Miss Bai, too, was a vibrant contributor.
In the very beginning, he didn’t know how to express his feelings, and since Lu Weixi was already dating his younger brother, he could only do the most foolish thing–stalk her.
