Chapter 1338: Chapter 1331: Tracking (1)
Lu Weixi had indeed considered that, even if she remarried in the future, she wouldn’t temporarily leave her mother’s side. She had no feelings for the Qin Family members; it was purely to take care of her mother nearby.
In her previous failed marriage, she had felt the need to have her own say. Even though her job didn’t earn much money each month, far less than the dividends Qin Zhimei and Qin Zhizha got just by idly living off the family’s shares. But marriage is an equal partnership; if one party is too dominant and the other too weak, it can easily lead to an imbalance of status between them. It had always been this way, even though she worked hard and studied seriously, and even got her qualification certificates, making her a middle-class income earner by all accounts. But with no connections or backing, climbing each rung of the ladder was extraordinarily difficult, and a serious illness had laid bare her family’s financial situation. She had no choice but to seek help from Qin Zhiyou and was looked down upon by the Qin Family for it.
This was the situation from both her and Qin Zhiyou’s perspective as a couple. Additionally, from her parents’ side, Lu Weixi’s mother only had her as a daughter; she couldn’t just neglect her.
During those five years, when she lived with the Qin Family, her mother stayed in the hospital when she was ill, and they had to hire a caretaker when she wasn’t. But no matter how attentive a nanny could be, she couldn’t compare to a daughter.
The best situation was of course to live in the Lu Family home. Although the community was a bit old and worn, it was still in the city center, which was convenient for getting around, especially for seeing doctors. There was also education; she was admitted to an on-the-job PhD program at N University, which was only a half-hour walk from the old Lu Family home, making it convenient for her to attend and leave classes.
Lu Weixi’s mother had no good feelings toward those Qin Family members either, nor toward the second or third branches of the family. They always seemed displeased with her, and if she were to bring along a burdensome elderly person, she feared they might resent her to death. Returning to the old family home was definitely out of the question, but the West Mountain villa was far from her mother’s hospital. Moreover, her mother had reservations about Qin Zhiyou, and might not be willing to be taken there.
Lu Weixi had originally planned that if Qin Zhiyou didn’t agree to help support her mother, she would definitely not remarry. She would rather raise her child alone than abandon her mother in the hospital again. But unexpectedly, Qin Zhiyou himself had taken the initiative to offer to live together, which of course she was happy about.
“Mm,” she nodded her head.
Qin Zhiyou immediately began his persuasion, “Xixi, your belly is three months already. You know, later on, you’ll need to go for prenatal checkups every one or two weeks. Without a hospital’s certificate, it’s very hard to handle. All the follow-up checkups, and even registering the child’s household registration will be impossible. He will end up without an official identity.”
Qin Zhiyou truly deserved the title of a Best Actor; as he spoke, he even sighed. Lu Weixi heard the implication in his tone, knowing this guy just wanted to trick her into getting the marriage certificate quickly.
She had thought Qin Zhiyou’s marriage proposal would be very creative. She had bought the ring and had been foolishly waiting, but who would have thought this guy would try to trick her into marriage with just a few casual words? Not so easy!
Lu Weixi intentionally said with an indifferent expression, “Isn’t there still seven months before the due date? Besides, I haven’t planned on using a public hospital for the birth anyway. In a private hospital, there will be fewer people and less hassle, right? At least there will be fewer reporters and onlookers.”
Qin Zhiyou was about to speak again, but Lu Weixi cut him off, “I just got back. I haven’t even changed clothes, and I’m a bit hungry. It’s not a big deal if I’m hungry, but the baby in my stomach is saying he’s hungry too.”
