Chapter 1329: Chapter 1322: Long Separation Leads to Reunion (8)
The ring was simple, with a beautiful princess cut diamond. Aside from the inscription, there were no other embellishments–it was so unadorned that it returned to its natural purity, evoking a feeling of sheer clarity.
But the cursive letters on it were absolutely unique, designed by Qin Zhiyou himself. Though Lu Weixi had been married for five years and seldom wore her ring, she could still feel from the cursive script that it was the same typeface as the one from five years ago–a seal that belonged only to them.
No wonder just now, when Mr. Wang mentioned “gift” and glanced at her face. The pile of things he had taken from the trunk didn’t matter; only this was the gift from Qin Zhiyou to her.
As she looked over, Qin Zhiyou on the sofa shifted slightly and turned his body to face her direction directly. Lu Weixi, who was crouching at the edge of the sofa, had a view that captured his entire countenance. Upon closer inspection, he indeed appeared significantly exhausted, with dark shadows under his eyelids signaling a lack of rest. Furthermore, there was stubble on his chin–an unacceptable sight for someone as conscious of their appearance as Qin Zhiyou.
It seemed Mr. Wang hadn’t lied: Qin Zhiyou was genuinely exhausted. With just a passing mention of “working out of town,” it was likely that these past three days had been filled with earnest effort.
Lu Weixi shook her head, placed the ring back into the box, and carefully tucked it into the original pocket. She had no idea how this guy planned to give her the ring.
Turning back around, she made sure his blanket was properly laid, and just as she was about to leave, she stumbled over the shopping bag Mr. Wang had placed to the side.
Something spilled from the shopping bag, clattering away, rolling out like a small tin can scattering on the ground.
But the spill was not the most crucial part; it was the cacophony of “clinks and clatters,” even the plastic bag made a noise.
Lu Weixi was startled and instinctively glanced at her mother’s bedroom door–no sign of disturbance; she probably hadn’t woken up yet. Lu Weixi breathed a sigh of relief and turned back around, only to be met by a pair of eyes that were a bit hazy and intoxicated, yet curious.
Qin Zhiyou was awake.
Then in the next second, Qin Zhiyou reached out, pulling her down into his arms swiftly, causing Lu Weixi to let out a startled cry. If it hadn’t been for the fear of waking her mother, she might have even screamed.
Once Qin Zhiyou had pulled her down, he quickly extended his arms and used his long limbs to advantage, locking her tightly in his embrace. Lu Weixi barely moved when she heard his voice, hoarse and direct: “Don’t move.”
How could Lu Weixi possibly remain still? She attempted to struggle, but Qin Zhiyou murmured behind her, “If you keep moving, I might do more than just hold you.”
Lu Weixi was taken aback, especially as she felt Qin Zhiyou’s temperature rising behind her, seemingly heading in a direction unsuitable for children. She tried to break free, but then saw Qin Zhiyou with his eyes closed, the corners of his mouth pursed as if he was making a great effort to restrain himself.
“Let me hold you. I’ve missed you so much these past days.”
At his words, it seemed as if all the great grievances Lu Weixi harbored were punctured and dissipated into nothingness.
Submissively, she nestled into his embrace, and neither of them spoke a word.
After a long while, Qin Zhiyou gently stroked her hair. Lu Weixi raised her head within his embrace and was close enough to see his long lashes.
